Had a few Bush Amber today, was goddamn amazing.

Heavy (12%) but really good. If any of you lads get to try it, do.

Ill check out bush amber. im an IPA fan. goto would probably be keiths, I like lagers like MGD a lot too.

I just picked up another 6-pack of The Poet this week. I think I actually prefer it over the fabled Dragon's Milk. Stouts are my jam.

stouts are too heavy for me as an all night drinker. i do enjoy the flavours tho and will check out the poet

I would hazard a guess our approaches differ. I have two at most in an evening but usually just enjoy the one.

Not to mention it's pricey.

almost certainly 1 or 2 is what i call a tease or a family function.

So speaking of making sweet corporate money:

I put together some competitive analysis/ intel for my company's president today-- or as I describe it to most people, I googled things and presented my findings/conclusions in a neatly formatted word document. It's 6 pages/1370 words long, and with my salary that works out to like $50 a page or $0.20 per word.

Also, long-delayed addendum to the GMO discussion.

I for the most part agree with THS, though it's essential to break it down into several key areas.

1) The health risks of GMO foods.
In short, there has yet been any demonstrated medical risks from the consumption of GMOs and, in several cases (e.g. Golden Rice) notable health benefits to address current nutritional deficiencies in the developing world.

Opposition to GMOs on these grounds are largely inane as, while there is, I suppose, a minscule risk that there are negative health risks in the future involving GMOs, nothing notable given the weight of regulatory agencies in the US (the EPA and FDA both regulate different aspects of GMOs), though USDA cutbacks are concerning.

2) The agricultural and environmental impact of GMOs.

This is where things get somewhat tricky. GMOs engineered to produce natural pesticides are in theory better for the environment, as they discourage and reduce the use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers, which can have lasting impact on the environment in runoffs.

In reality, it's abit more complicated than that. Whereas studies have shown insecticide use has declined, chemical herbicide use in the US has been on the rise, due to the issue of herbicide resistant weeds (developing as a response to an over-use of chemical herbicides, which is made possible by GE herbicide-resistant crops). There are other concerns, the effects on biodiversity, and long-term sustainability, that go hand in hand with such overuse. All of this, of course, ties back to the final point I would like to make.

3) The environmental and productive problems of "traditional" commercialized western agricultural practices, from pesticides to monoculture.

Now, don't get me wrong, the current system of commercialized agriculture is necessary to produce the sheer volume of produce necessary to feed an increasingly large population. Nonetheless, the commercial practice of monoculture, in conjunction with heavy use of chemical or GE pesticides, are what facilitate these types of pest developments.

I don't want to touch upon this too much, but I would point towards Integrated Pest Management systems, most notably in their use in Southeast Asia, as a "better" path forward. In this view, I would say that GMO use is not by itself bad, but is currently poorly utilized in the context of western commercialized agricultural practice.

I think I agree with you on more or less everything here, barring a few things* I'd expand upon even further (which you may have just glossed over for the sake of brevity / generalization. I'm left a little confused though, since you seemed adamant about responding to my previous post over a long period of time, but I think we largely talked about the same things. Just adding to / continuing the discussion is certainly fine though!

*those things:

+ Show Spoiler +
Regarding GMO products in developing countries to combat malnutrition:
Some products themselves are fine and have found some success at this. But it's important to situate this in the exploitative reality of global capitalism (particularly in regards to the agricultural sector), and to take a holistic view of health. In many cases, the implementation of (copyrighted/corporate/etc.) GMO products will be done in such a way that, to vastly oversimply, makes the poor poorer and the rich richer. In many communities in the global south, health has declined sharply in many aspects despite improvement in other areas (nutrition, medicine, etc.) in a way that raises strong questions about the efficacy of western intervention (primarily when it's half-assed with regards to good intentions).
Golden rice specifically is about as legit as it gets, though (ofc it's not perfect but it's p.decent).

USDA etc:
I think the general consensus is it's pretty riddled with corporate corruption. It's still proving to be pretty reliable for the most part (95%+ at least), although mistakes have been made, and it's more or less impossible for the layperson to predict which cases will turn out which way, so the fear around it is really pretty understandable imo. I do think a lot of people tend to assume that a corrupt USDA makes the situation worse than it would be without any USDA though, which is certainly evidently not the case.

Broader western conventional agriculture:
Yes defs rife with problems, but it's important to recognize how interrelated a lot of agricultural practices are with other aspects of society. A few examples that strongly affect what methodologies are available to us would be: local materials, systems of distribution, food safely regulations, zoning laws, systems of inheritance, scale of investment, supply/demand on the global scale, the ever-shifting role of government, and so on (and these things are interrelated too ofc). So a lot of systems of agriculture are products of specific and complex societal contexts that aren't really able to be easily adjusted or swapped / experimented with.

Also on that note, starting in 2017 I'll be taking on a few experiments with regards to methodology in my agricultural context. If you're interested, one of the things I'll be looking at is the efficacy of / how no-till multi-culture farming can function in reclaimed "destroyed" soils primarily made of clay in an area with a high water table (ie, if you dig more than 2.5-3 feet you hit water). Locally, we have a series of laws that more or less ban construction on farmland, ideally preserving it, but in practice simply reducing the price of farmland to way below market value which traps farmers into staying in the occupation scale of investment etc (this is a different point). One problematic workaround people are trying now is to start greenhouse projects, which permit the construction of roadways and such on farmland, and burying construction debris under the roadways (big money) and then abandoning the greenhouse project completely, leaving the soil more or less unusable for conventional western agricultural practices (rebar will wreck your machines). Some of these lands are subsequently being converted into parks and such, but I'm trying to find ways to retain agricultural use. The clay is an issue because it rains a lot here, and post-saturation we get lots of runoff, but also the soil becomes concrete-like when it dries out in spring (this is tangentially related to global warming effecting the pathing of migratory birds, since ducks and geese stay here over winter now and they contribute to this problem (this gets complex and is a story for another time)), meaning that tillage is typically considered absolutely necessary. The water table is relevant (strickly speaking, we're a delta (island in the middle of a river) and below sea level) because any excess of chemical applications drains quickly, and long-term chemical techniques basically don't work, so alternative pest management is likely to be a necessity. It's fun!

I generally like fruity beers, most specifically sour ones, since I like sour flavours but am not a huge fan of the sweetness that typically comes with them. Darker beers are generally good, but I'm not a fan of the creamy texture things like guinness take on. Typically not a fan at all of things lighter than a pale ale, and I haaaaate IPAs. Overall I think my favourite beer is Rickard's Shandy, which defs goes against a lot of the things I just said, but it's like a lemonade that isn't sweet - which is awesome, and I highly recommend it to people who typically don't like beer / alcohol but wish to get drunk (it's not noticeably different/better/worse than a smooth lemon juice (not lemonade)).

Story is good up until the end of 2.0, the last two dungeons are terribly paced with cutscene breaks and because Duty Finder has a "roulette" feature that has the three Main Story Quest (MSQ) fights in it, a lot of the people who are running them are doing so for XP/Poetics ("endgame"/progression currency) so they just skip all of the cutscenes and run the dungeons as fast as they can, and they're laughably easy now since a new 50, pre-Heavensward level, has access to item level 115 gear now through the Market Board/friends, its pathetic. Before 3.0 and Heavensward, the max item level in the game was 135 and that was from the Binding Coil of Bahamut series of raids, so not a lot of people had them and most people only had maybe i55-70 gear near the end of 2.0, so the fights are tuned to that while most of the people running them now are i90+.

The 2.1-2.55 MSQ is also good and the pacing is a lot better, and the 3.0 story is FUCKING AMAZING, minus Bismark, fuck that fight...

As for the dungeons, they're split into Light party (4man, 1 tank, 1 healer, 2 DPS classes), Full party/Raid (8man, 2 Tanks, 2 Healers, 4 DPS, encompassing the last 3 MSQ 2.0 fights, Hard/Extreme Primal fights and most other duties) and Full party/Alliance Raids (24 man, 3 Full parties of 2/2/4, currently only 3 of these, Labyrinth of the Ancients, Sychus Tower, and World of Darkness, Void Ark is coming in 3.1 so I'm told, and SE is looking at ways to make the Crystal Tower relevant again, since currently its about as dead as dead can be.)

Most of the dungeons in the game are 4 man, but a lot of the earlier ones can be soloed by going into them unsynch'd/undersized, other instances require a full party to start and cant be queued into it, such as Alexander Savage, The Limitless Blue Extreme and Thox Ast Thok Extreme, these are done by Statics/Party Finder groups mostly, but some Free Companies (Guilds) will do them for fun/items if they have enough people who are geared for them.

As a reference point for item level bloat, my two 50+ classes currently are 184(White Mage) and 116 (Bard) both of these classes, plus my Scholar and Astrologian once i get those to 60 will jump towards 170-180 just from the gear I have currently sitting around. .I'll probably stream some current mid-core end-game content and whatever I get through levelling roulette in 20-30 if you want to see it in action.

Sens anywhere from 1-4 but most around 1.5-2.5. DPI for your mouse should be ~400/450. Some play with 800 but I never liked it.

You can't just pick the "best" cheese. Different cheeses are best in different culinary situations. You want a light snacking cheese? Brie. Want something to melt on a sandwich? Muenster or Swiss. A pungent cracker cheese? Blue variants.

Then there are cheeses like Guyere and Parmesan are essential to specific dishes (French Onion or Mac and Cheese without Guyere is just sad). Etc.
