Seems silly on a loss but I'm looking forward to the next game. Nice to have some great opportunities at the end too.

The problem is that how it works thematically and how it works within the rules have a disconnect. If you compare a 1st level wizard thematically to a 10th level rogue who became a 1st level wizard, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Also, ComaDose, with the exception of Human-specific dual-classing, 2nd Ed multiclassing doesn't work that way. Multiclassing in 2nd Ed entails having multiple base classes you select at character creation that advance in parallel. And even human dual-classing is subject to pretty notable rules and restrictions (starting your second class permanently stops advancement in your initial class and you can't take a 3rd class). On-the-fly multiclassing is only really a 3E-specific idea, so saying "we've been able to multi-class since 1st ed." is somewhat disingenuous.

What? 4th is fine and I enjoyed playing it. It's way easier to setup as well I'm just saying, there's no reason why a fighter would have a special sword move that he can only use once per day. Or at least, 4th edition doesn't give you any reason. It just says "Take your pick of these special, once-per-day attacks." I don't deny that it's a fun system to go slaughter monsters in, and more balanced and less complicated than 3.5, but I can get basically the same experience by playing a video game. So how do you feel about Tome of Battle? I actually haven't read through or used that one, so I don't know. I appreciate the attempt to make a punchy class that can compete with wizards, but I don't know how solid it is thematically. If you just go off the lore in the book it's... ok. You can easily work in the styles/paths/whatever they're called into a fantasy setting with no problem. It's all very basic. But, the actual combat with it is really fun, and there are a lot of rather balanced homebrew styles that work with the mechanics in the book. I played a gunslinger type that was base classed Warblade and had a lot of cool shooting maneuvers, without overshadowing the straight Warrior and Psion in the party.

I appreciate the attempt to make a punchy class that can compete with wizards, but I don't know how solid it is thematically. The core design concept of ToB is per-encounter powers. The sourcebook is a bit more thematically rich than you make 4E out to be, but ultimately ToB was the test-bed for the idea of per-encounter powers (and WotC was arguably inspired to move the concept forward in 4E BECAUSE ToB was so well-received).
