yeah, there's 2 kinds of skill in HS, there's deck-building (which i'm terrible at) - making a deck that's balanced enough to beat a variety of opposing decks (or strong enough against the current meta to only have to beat 1 popular deck) - and then deck-playing (which i'm better at) all you have to do in the latter is make decisions based on your hand and his (assumed) hand. the card draws are RNG yes but the way you play them is pure skill. i can beat my friends with either of us using any deck, but cixah could do the same to me

Lost two arenas in a row just now...first game to a guy with 2x Equality/Consecrate combo, second one to the most insane fucking start I've ever seen. He drops Sorcerer's Apprentice, I drop 2/2 doggy. Next turn he kills it with a 0 mana cost missiles, then drops zero mana cost Mirror Image, and ANOTHER Sorcerer's apprentice. I have no Consecrate in my deck (they never even offered it to me, QQ) I figured it was over already from that point, but I still kept going. I dropped a 3/3 and then he drops a fucking Sea Giant. I think it was turn 3. Maybe turn 4.

that battlecry is so brokenly op it drives me crazy. when i'm applying a ton of pressure he can play it to stall out my hand, and when i'm controlling the board he can play it to chunk me. it's too versatile. it's especially frustrating in that stall-forever warrior deck that is cropping up. armor armor armor armor armor, i'm just doing my thing, controlling the board, taking no damage, chunking down his armor, looks like i'm okay, i probably have an HP lead and the board is empty then BOOM alexstrasza and i'm at half HP. it's also a problem in the paladin version (heal forever to stall, then alexstrasza and tirion to finish) but less so because paladin kinda blows that being said, she's next on my to-create list, and then I'M gonna be the terror playing that warrior deck >:D

The RNG things I don't normally like in card games like the 50/50s, coin flips for effects, ect are actually very welcome for me in hearthstone. It brings an element of FUN to a series of games where normally I feel like I'm playing Vs Someone's Brain rather than a Person who's sitting across from me. I think HS has a chance at being competitive even with these effects, it's just a matter of people manning up and getting over the fact that Lady Luck isn't always on your side. Guitar by proxy you are better than LS: @ggCMonteCristo breaks my HS streak of 20-0! T_T

OP is OK still I guess, this arc is almost over though, so that'll slow down shortly as well. Avoiding major spoilers is fucking hard btw, 3~ week warning-ish if you aren't caught up. Knight Run is weird and confusing, second season just started so it's really disjointed right now. I'm up to the Chimera Ant arc in HxH re-read, and I don't really like this part, so I don't really want to continue reading it.... Why, oh, why can I not just jump into a future where not only Berserk is finished, but Akame ga KILL and Zero are finished...Maybe I'll actually just have to read Kill la Kill, Lessa, and Noblesse... Does anyone have any must-read manga? I generally like Seinen/shounen that focus more on plot/drama and fights as opposed to slice of life and comedy, but at this point, I'm willing to break the mold. Maybe I should just play more League or Dota... WHY NOONE READS JOJO FFS It's (very) kitsch at the beginning. It's ongoing. The plot is rarely deep, although the parts and villains have various themes and motives. Part 3 is basically "got 30 days to kill this guy" then a string of fights as they make their way to him. BUT The amount of references it incorporates is huge (try to find all th songs and artists included). The amount of references it spawned might be even huger. Shit like that and Hokuto no Ken are what spawned shounen as we know it, creating the recipes over reusing them and milking shit over an over. It's in 8 different parts, which despite having ties can be read separately, so even if it's ongoing you've got milestones to stop at. The fights are great, varied, and almost never straight-up beatdowns (well Polnareff is an exception but that's basically what his Stand is for). The Stand concept is great, especially all the cave-ats making people vulnerable and the whole "locate the user/understand what his Stand does" in long-range fights (Aerosmith makes for really well paced battles, for example, Bad Company would have been excellent had we seen more of it). The art is fabulous. And by this I mean FABULOUS. Top Picks: Trigun/Trigun Maximum, Negima/UQ Holder Classics: Hellsing, Attack on Titan, Deadman Wonderland, Rurouni Kenshin, Chrono Crusade (not about the game), Soul Cartel, Akira, Psyren, Pokemon Adventures A little more obscure but not really: Gantz, D Gray Man, Zetman, Medaka Box, Oh, My God!, God of High School Not purely action but action-y and worth reading: FMA, Assassination Classroom, The Gamer, A Certain Magical Index, Full Metal Panic, Mirai Nikki, Angel Densetsu, Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer Those are my usual suspects, off the top of my head. I really need to start keeping a list as these sorts of conversations seem to be getting more common. Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer may not be as action heavy as you'd like, but it's great on the character front. Medaka Box is pretty bullshit when it comes to fights tho. The draw for me was in how meta that thing was, also at some points Kumagawa made me uneasy in his first mentions/apparitions, which happens rarely enough to be pointed out. I just embraced the bullshit and followed the meta till the culmination of the sealed gal's arc. It declined after, but with some moments of brilliance, and a weird (but in a kinda good way) ending. Is the full metal panic manga decent? The anime (apart from fumoffu) was a piece of shit, like watching a Z-series american action movie with all the cliche present. D Gray Man suffers from bieng on hiatus. It has some interesting stuff but what drew me at the start was the Akama concept and that got pushed to the side fairly quickly. Shingeki no Kyojin (attack on titan) is past its half and still going strong, revealing its plot progressively and with a good ambiance/pacing (people criticise it for not bieng hecty and having entire chapters without action but I think it does it well). Vinland Saga is nice, well-drawn, some interesting twists and ways to present the situations (although it was a bit surprising at first, I liked the overall direction of the farmland saga arc, and it was refreshing to see a "What's a true warrior?" theme not end up as "I only use my strength to defend my friends; I'm still the biggest munchkin around though"). However it's ongoing, monthly, and still seems like it's in first half, if not quarter. Kingdom is great. The plot and characters aren't necessarily deep, it's definitely a shounen, but the characters are so over the top and every single officer reeks of HAM so it makes for great moments and "manly man" confrontations. At the same time, the fact that it uses the fight/shounen aspects to detail events of the big picture, with accounts and how things unfold (and various time skips to only focus on the important happenings) makes it nicer to read than some mindless action/fight manga. Plus he's following History so you know there's already a set scenario and it won't go on forever. Gantz became shit way too early (compared to its whole length) to be worth looking at imo. In the end it only makes the start look lurid.
