Protoss has so much potential to mess up and tilt terran in the early game that he doesn't really do. Also, ShowTime always seems to want to win in the most honorable way imaginable, without any dirty tricks, while simultaneously apparently lacking confidence that he can do so against the absolute top dogs. This leads to him having terrible records against the likes of Serral and Maru.

Unless Reynor pulls it back the top 3 looks set PvP is unpredictable, herO is favored against Showtime but Showtime beating herO and Cyan to advance wouldn't be shocking.

Perhaps a confidence thing, perhaps it’s only really an approach that you can pull off if you’re as good as an opponent in a long, straight-up game. Pretty damn clean game there from herO

Goes to show how impressive Stats is that he pulled off wins against Serral and Maru while barely dipping into the dirty protoss bag at all. At the same time, the protoss bag hasn't looked deep enough to actually win tournaments in a few years now. Maybe playing defensive is actually the best way to win? Can you expect protoss players to really enter tournaments with 25 surprise builds?

Defensive Protoss play doesn't actually look too bad these days against Zerg, as long as you get a few drone kills with your adepts/oracles. Still unwise for P to drag it out into the late game against the likes of Serral or Dark, but chilling until the later mid-game is viable.

He's not gonna pull out any of his best builds compared to the players fighting for their tournament life tomorrow. As for prep, sure you don't know your ro8 opponent until tomorrow, but you still get time to rest, look over everyone else's games, and think about builds in different cases. And all that rest is in addition to the extra guaranteed $10K, and not having to play the ro8. Going 4-0 is worth any of those rewards on their own, let alone all of them He skips the Ro12, not Ro8. So one Bo5, which is fair when you get 1st place in my opinion. If you wanted to avoid it, you would have to either reduce the amount of players qualifying to 8 (which can make for very boring groups), increase the amount of players to 16 (which makes for even more boring groups) or shuffle the schedule around, but then people joining for the day get "less SC2 for their bug". For example if groups would be done today, you could do the Ro8/Ro12 tomorrow and then Ro4+Finals on Sunday, but the SC2 day then reduces by like four hours on sunday.

Dark almost did as well. Speaks to Showtime moreso than to Reynor imo

Sorry, I meant to say not playing the ro12 there. But my point is mainly that going straight to the ro8 is a fine reward for getting 1st (literally $10K extra). But getting an entire day of no relevant matches is a bit much. Especially considering how varied the groups are. For example, Dark might win all his matches and still be fighting to get 1st in the group tomorrow, just because his group is that much harder and closer. In the past, they did ro12+ro8 on saturday, and ro4+finals on sunday. I don't think people joining on sunday getting more livematches is that big of a deal compared to players getting such big advantages.
