Reynor has eaten so many storms, both in this series and against Showtime. If there were a storm-damage count I bet it would be gnarly.

herO trading evenly vs BL/infestor while mining one of the zerg's bases is insane

4 mining bases vs 1 right now and herO is up in resources lost

I think if herO goes 0-4 from here, Reynor goes 4-0, and Showtime loses to Cyan, Reynor advances. Otherwise he's out.

At the end herO had a dozen of ht but yeah, reynor engage during middle game was atrocious.

If Reynor beats Cyan and Dark 2-0, Cyan beats Showtime and Showtime and Maru beat herO 2-0, that is how he makes ro12.

Not looking good for The Italian Stallion...

Eadit: Cyan has to beat Showtime 2-0 too.

Yeah, Showtime has always been a fantastic matchup for Maru. You could probably say Showtime's style doesn't lend itself well to PvT in general. Protoss has so much potential to mess up and tilt terran in the early game that he doesn't really do.

Also, ShowTime always seems to want to win in the most honorable way imaginable, without any dirty tricks, while simultaneously apparently lacking confidence that he can do so against the absolute top dogs. This leads to him having terrible records against the likes of Serral and Maru.

Goes to show how impressive Stats is that he pulled off wins against Serral and Maru while barely dipping into the dirty protoss bag at all.

At the same time, the protoss bag hasn't looked deep enough to actually win tournaments in a few years now. Maybe playing defensive is actually the best way to win? Can you expect protoss players to really enter tournaments with 25 surprise builds?

I think there's a middle ground between playing ultra conservative like Showtime and playing hyper aggressive like herO.
Probably how Trap played seems to be the best approach

Showtime vs Cyan is about to go 1-1 so I don't think it's possible for Reynor to overtake both of them now

Really sad for reynor, I really like him and think he is super skilled, you're not wc and twice vice wc without being good.
But he has a lot trouble to be consistently in shape since gamer8.

Cyan and Showtime are 1-1 now, does that mean they've just eliminated Reynor? Funny how that happens in Round Robins.

Yeah it's impossible for herO, Cyan, and Showtime to all fall 2-3 and all have lower than -1 map scores at this point. Reynor is out

Defensive Protoss play doesn't actually look too bad these days against Zerg, as long as you get a few drone kills with your adepts/oracles. Still unwise for P to drag it out into the late game against the likes of Serral or Dark, but chilling until the later mid-game is viable.

Yeah, the tricky part is stopping the Zerg exploding, but if you get there it looks pretty playable. I mean Zerg can just kill you, but not really with poking, they have to commit pretty hard.

I’d say the tricky part for Toss these days if they’re trying to play defensively is in PvT there are so many ways to just die, or take crippling damage from Terran’s various tools. And Terran don’t have to deviate from their late-game plan and comps to do it, they can just exploit a small positional mistake and capitalise.

The critical phase of macro PvT, when you’re getting that 3rd up, and thinking about getting a 4th and really supercharging your macro, is just damn hard to negotiate.

When batteries were just that little bit stronger Toss way more reliably survived that phase in good shape, often ahead and they could get into the ‘super’ late game where they could leverage that to make things really tough for Terrans, if they could grab a couple of extra bases, be building a very technical army and have a load of extra cash to have Zealots and DTs harassing all over the place.

Trap was still mostly macro, I'd say Classic was the best "middle ground" protoss, as in the one sitting right in the middle between aggressive and macro

Yeah, every top P is able to throw in some cheeses here and there, but Classic was unique in having really good defense but also being willing to throw in the dirtiest/riskiest cheese imaginable.
