wow really ?

2011 was 17Terran, 17Protoss+Zerg
2015 it is 11Protoss, 6Zerg, 3Terran;

seems like it made no sense to complain in 2011 and that 2015 sample is pretty small. Ofc P did well, but let's give credit to the players.

That's just one set of data. Trust me, most of 2011 wasn't very fun when you didn't like terran match-ups

true I wasn't around at the time, purchased the game around Mvp - Squirtle finals.

What on earth was fun about it? Dunno about you guys but I don't find 2 base blink all in +2 with a 3rd particularly fun, nor do I find 14 speed/bling all in fun, nor do I find dt rushes fun.

Matches can be epic for different reasons. Like, when you know the stakes are high and the player has put everything on the line, and needs to win it all with just a handful of zerglings, that's epic too. So props to both Life and sOs, ggs, and gl in LotV!

(also, did anyone else get flashbacks to the Life/Parting GSL final where the last map was also Iron Fortress, and Life again did an early zergling rush? I wonder if sOs remembered....)

Life seemed to be using a lot of previous material in the finals. He had similar builds compared to his match vs Classic on moonlight and coda as well :D

well i'm not feeling that sorry for life, he has won 50k. but sos just doesn't feel like the solid player that deserves this win. he is almost entirely reliant on mindgame and trickery. oh well

Dude, both are an integral part of how this game works

Life was trying to use exactly the same tricks against sOs, but the latter is simply better at it - Especially when a 100k prize is on the line. Winning such a prize 3 times? Can't be just luck

that's not really true, majority of the series life was trying to respond sos' bullshit, in the last game he rushed and sos won 4-3, that's not that clearly sos being better, it was a very close series... they were pretty evenly matched and no game went to the lategame. we can try to pretend this was a great series but in truth it was a cheesefest and the master cheeser king of #protoss won with mindgame and cheese.

You must be a Life fan XD

I don't really understand the reasoning you're using. The best player wins, it's that simple, and today, sOs was the better player.

Yes, it was close, and yes there was cheesing, but there was cheesing from both sides. The very last game STARTED with Life trying to cheese sOs, but the latter defended well and won the game.

And boy, the games were a lot of fun to watch, cheeses or not.

they both were trying to cheese without scouting and life got the short end of the stick. it wasn't sos being better. there is a thing with protoss that made people hate the race throughout the history of sc2 more than the other 2 rates, and sos embodies that quality very well. he denies scouting, tries to mislead the opponent and wins with very good micro. he relies entirely on his mindfuck plan to work, if the enemy scouts it he usually loses. i didn't feel disappointed at all when he beat rain, in that series he seemed to outclass his opponent in every way. now he just seemed to win the build order war in the won games and lose them in the lost ones. he did the exact same thing in the series vs mkp and vs jaedong (he was clearly better than jaedong in that series though). he is obviously a monster but very reliant on a volatile style and i just don't like it when he wins this way.

Great finals, can't really ask for a better story, grats to sOs, he's the boxer of SC2 in my mind.

You know, I've actually never considered that before...

I dunno. I feel like for me, Scarlett kind of proved that Protoss IS a bit gimicky, by off racing against DRG in a tournament and winning.

Then again, I suppose that does absolutely nothing to disprove your point, nobody had seen Scarlett's PvZ before in a tournament so DRG had no way of preparing for it. And yes, it was one game, but it was a game that spoke volumes because Scarlett put her money where her mouth was.
I root for Euro Zergs, NA Protoss* and Korean Terrans. (Any North American who has beat a Korean Pro as Protoss counts as NA Toss)

Because some people prefer non-stop action and trading wits over slow, methodical games where players slowly gain and lose advantages. It's why we're all fan of different players, and the fact both styles are possible is what makes the game great and varied

A perfect description, thanks!

No I rolled my eyes at a unit which I don't think should exist being micro'd so terribly that he lost a game from it.
