ASUS ROG Tournament Summer 2015 will take place at ASSEMBLY in Helsinki, from July 30th to August 1st.
This summer, ASUS ROG Tournament continues at the Finnish computer festival ASSEMBLY. New for this edition is two game titles coupled with the biggest total prize pool in the event's history.

I expect the hype for Hearthstone will die down within a few years, though. It will be the same for most eSports. They have a peak in popularity, then decline over time until there is a new game.

You do realize that there was no Asus ROG tournaments at all last year? Instead of complaining that Hearthstone gets more prize money be happy that we get a Starcraft event in the first place.
I myself am really happy they are back in SC2 and makes me really sad that I won't be able to make it there.

Hearthstone....just.....wow......hearthstone owning SC2 at prize pool.......i never thought i would see the day.....

But in this case it's not shrinking but growing, since there was no Asus Rog Summer sc2 tournament at all in 2014. We went from nothing to a 15k tournament, but people are still complaining.
Well I am glad to see sc2 back there and just don't see the point in comparing our scene to games from other genres.

Well what about DH, I don't see how it's relevant to this thread. What about Gfinity, a brand new tournament circuit picking up sc2? Does that make up for no sc2 at DH summer? Is IEM still having sc2 in the next season a good sign for a 5 year old RTS? Is the Korean scene doing better than ever? I don't know, but this is not the place to discuss the general sc2 scene and whether it's dying or not, if you want to do that make a dedicated thread. But I think you should rather not, because it feels like we already had hundreds of those.
This OP says sc2 will be back at Asus Rog Summer with a 15k tournament. That's what this thread is about and I think it's great news.

+1
Everyone should stop comparing games. sc2 is the only RTS out there that is alive. No other RTS even competes with sc2 (a part from possibly Star 1). But you can't compare an RTS to a Card Game or a MOBA.
All hail sc2!

We asked about it during the event from the players and many favored the bo3 groups if both group stages are played on the same day. No doubt two bo5 group stages can be a bit too much if many of the games go to 5 maps. Assembly Summer tournaments have been usually three days but since Hearthstone is now the bigger one it gets the 3 days and SC2 gets two days. Now with only a two day schedule, the bo3 groups were deemed a better choice.

I think people are upset because Hearthstone prize pool is bigger than sc2 prize pool. And we feel that sc2 takes more skill than hearthstone. But because hearthstone has more popularity it gets a larger prize pool as sponsors will gain more viewers watching it to see their ads.
Kind of the same same thing with LoL.

What a pointless tournament for pro gamers. Unless they are from Finland. qq moar Thanks for taking the debate seriously. Fuckwit! No problem, my man <33333

Whoa am I on TL or YouTube?

Drogo is going to qualify, what a man.

ShoWTimE made it as the first player :3

Fuzer going 3 starports on 1 base and I have no idea what I'm watching.

Fuzer's games are just incredibly entertaining

I remember Fuzer when he was in MoW in Poland, he was 11/11 every game and singing some Celine Dion.

Fuzer is nothing if not entertaining.

Drogo barely beats Fuzer 2-1 and qualifies for ASUS ROG, Fuzer plays BBoongBBoong in the losers bracket. lol

Ah, first match I watch and I see 2 rax.
king of raxrax

Fuzer's stutter stepping is commendable. Though I guess he had a lot of practice.

Is BBoongBBoong actually even going to participate when you need to pay your own flying tickets?

He also tried to qualify for HSC which was pay your own flights etc, so I imagine so.

@Wardi really nice job with the casting :3

Well didnt expect that kind of scouting after the first 2 games......

The salt is real in the CPU vs Hinoipl series...
|
What happened in the CPU match? I just saw the end where his opponent was going ham in chat.
|
I didn't see the full match, but Hinoipl went for both gold bases as 1st and 2nd exp. He even got a slight supply advantage at some point. I couldn't watch everything (doing some work), but when I looked again army supplies were even and CPU was knocking on the front door of the gold bases with a tons of immortals/sentry vs a ling/roach army.
Also CPU paused the game at some point due to lag.

Too bad most of the best foreigners can't play these because they're in the plane from Toronto or en route to HomeStory Cup. :/

Yeah, this is really odd scheduling from ASUS. It's like the worst possible time to schedule a qualifier, when everyone's traveling.
Suppose that also says something about the whole "WCS America Qualifier" happening later tonight too, though.

With the unfortunately late announcement of the ASUS ROG tournament, the qualifiers were forced to be very soon afterwards because of the ever increasing cost of travel and hotels. The timing for the qualifiers is tricky as the HSC tournament and WCS qualifiers are happening right on top of the time frame we had for the ASUS ROG qualifiers. With the current dates, there is 1 day between today's qualifier and HSC, and next week ASUS ROG qualifiers are on the off days of WCS EU qualifiers. But it is true that the first qualifier is probably not possible for players who were arriving from Toronto on the same day.
Remember, some players might have received an invite and thus are not participating in the qualifiers.

happy to see Ian qualified, he seems to play in almost everything

MiNiMaTh wins against Apocalypse and qualifies for ASUS ROG, in due part because Apocalypse thought going bio with cross server latency is a good idea.

Already 2 frenchies, the invasion continues !

I'm not saying Minimath is or isn't a better player, but Apocalypse going bio with cross server latency instead of going mech on Coda (which isn't the worst mech map) was not the best choice. If you can't split your units in time due to delay you better have macro like Cure to not just die.

Decision making is a pretty big part of being a good player. If he made poor decisions like this in his gameplay, then maybe he's not that good. The game isn't purely based on mechanics.

After all, Apocalypse did qualify! FYI, if two players whose home server is Korea met in the qualifier, naturally they were allowed to play the game in the Korean server.

Guess we gotta be happy with what we've been given, could be worse with no tournament at all.
Hearthstone brings more viewers for sure, and I suppose we should support all remaining tournaments with a fervor, but when tournaments shrink in prize pool, less people will watch... hurting future prize pools even further, losing even more viewers... and thus begins the vicious cycle of SC2's decline.
Sbenu was a much needed injection of capital and marketing for the SC2 scene, but more or less limited to Korea only. I'm sitting here thinking that I should be content with how things are and enjoy the game for a bit longer, but the fact of the matter is that staying stationary where we are equates to being left behind, with the hyper pace of development many other esports are experiencing. We NEED a Sbenu of the international scene, and soon. We're already headed down the path where the only large tournaments left would be WCS, GSL and SSL, with a sprinkling of local tournies with tiny prize pools.

I do love tournaments with losers' brackets.

Great plan by Fear, but bad execution :/

I think Revolver's got a good chance. He'll lose to Hyun but I think he'll claim one of the two spots in the losers' bracket.

Wow that's a really weird story. I think he probably shouldn't be allowed to participate if all that's true.

This seems like the best dramarama we've had since Savior.
Go DmC!

4 French players left out of 8, 4 qualifying spots. I don't know what would be funnier, all French qualifying or none of them.

It can happen!
We need the following:
Losira > Winner of Relmer vs. Kimo Strange > Denver DmC > Denver
Qualifiers are Losira, Guru, DmC, Strange.
|
Sick gambit by strange, nice reaction by Denver! Let's see who wins the trade
|
Damn.
Nice play by Denver, and now Strange vs. DmC for the loser qualifier spot. GG
