They even played a funny game "crown a new one every other tournament" until zest showed consistence. Why is everyone replying with balance whining? Is it like this ALL the time? Just fucking admit that player A sucked and player B ruled and that's why the game ended up the way it did. Blame the player, not the game. Because seeing the same race win every single thing is boring and mindnumbing. Have you seen 2014 results? Nope. But this was a common trend in Broodwar as well, races performing well. Blaming it all on the game and dev. fixes is rofl. Balance is a sensitive thing. By neglecting the players as "the balancers" you piss on the Esports as you think you know how the game should be, changing the core again and again. You can never reach perfection except within yourself. Take a good look in the mirror and think: Why me? Lmao, balance isn't some mystical spiritual experience. It's a fact, the game's either balanced or it's not. If the legitimacy of esports is so fragile that talking about the fact of its artificial design endangers it, then esports doesn't deserve to be legitimate. Fortunately I couldn't agree less with your point. I disagree a bit. You can try to balance the game in every matchup in every situation, but because there will never be the same situations have in the exact same way again and again. But ESPECIALLY because the races are designed so different, beginning with economy, but also with how their health regens (or not) how to macro (warpin across the map, vs creating 7 units a time from a 300 mineral building, vs 1-2 units a time etc etc), flying buildings, mules, cronoboost, one race not required to micro hard where the other one has etc leads to one race having less apm in average while it may require other skills (thinking process) I believe it can never be balanced 100%

Yeah, MC is so skilless and plays that bullshit op race. Never mind that he has been a consistent player since the early days of SC2, it is only because he plays Toss!

Is there ever a real general consensus anywhere on TL? For me, MC won. He earned it.
As to how he did it, I don't know apart from being able to get the better of some key engagements and TY perhaps being conservative when he had an advantage. But, I could be wrong. I'll definitely have to watch that game again.
TL strategy should do one of their spotlight pieces on it too. That game deserves one. It was a great game of Starcraft.
Anyway, G'night. Stay frosty y'all.

you cannot balance the game around winrates cause it just doesn't reflect the players skill therefore not balance. If you make a ladder system, that ranks you up and down depending on your winrate, ofc you'll always have 50% winrate and therefore are "balanced", although you may be only 5 years old and press the same button all over again, and the other player is a 20 yo korean pro. So would that be balance? Winrates don't prove anything by themself.

If you say so. Why don't you pull out David Kim's balance numbers while you're at it. You realize that if the game is down to just Maru being able to compete, as long as he can beat D-level Protoss in "really really close games" it's going to be 50/50, right? Aligulac tracks pretty much all tournament results. It is far from MaruvP.
Yes, but there aren't as many Terrans to track!!! When MMA makes a deep tournament run beating up 10 crappy foreign Protoss and Zerg in the process, Terran win percentage is artificially inflated! There are not as many crappy foreign Terrans to beat up. PvT winrate does not get inflated the same way. The Maru example was just a simplification of what is going on, there are fewer Terrans and this skews the balance numbers like craaazy.
