The better players today. That's the thing with SC2, it's about the 'better players today' rather than about the better players overall That's so true, I don't like domination but I absolute hate it when there no gap between best and the good, one you can win the tournament and yet the next season you completely play like trash. I used to have hype when new blood come to the scene but imho really miss the time where we have a king to hail for and eager to watch a game if he can be dethroned, now for months not even a single ppl can get two consecutive title.

Like I have said earlier, if we never gave people a chance to get to know them and like how they play, we'd never have new favorites, new legends, new stories to tell. Clinging to old favorites and shunning new great players is what causes games to die.
There are new players that are actually interesting though
like SORA, too bad his hype train already derailed.

Too bad his PvP sucks I was really hoping he'd go straight to Code S
We need a new hipster bonjwa to nominate
2014 will be HammEr time mark my words

Actually, I don't think it's the new players that have trouble acquiring fans (Sora anyone?). Rather, I think its the players that have been consistently average/good without being particularly notable and then suddenly get slightly better and/or make a lucky run. Essentially, players who fall into these categories:
1)Perceived to be mid-tier players, floating between Code A and Code S Ro16. 2)Strong opponents in the group stages, but not considered to be actual GSL Championship contenders. 3)No particularly distinguishable traits in play/personality. (that the fans see)

Who cares if you naysayers watch it or not? The Korean fanbase of soO or Dear might just be as big as SoulKey's and probably quintuples that of Maru's
So yeah, plenty of people will watch. Imagine half of the AX Hall filled with red SKT?

pretty sure Dear doesn't have a fanbase, soO might though since he's fairly oldschool.

Was Maru very popular before Season 2? I honestly don't remember.

Does it matter all that much if the GOM Studio is half empty? It's quite small. It would be a far cry from an empty stadium.

Soulkey T_T At least Dear went through, please win!

I don't remember him being very popular either. In fact I remember him being derided for being a cheesy player up until some point, and not well liked. When did that change, I wonder.
And if perception of Maru changed, why can't it for Dear and soO?

It can. If Dear wins all the Protoss players will rally around him and if he says a word in English or something at the season finals BOOM fan favorite.
At this exact moment I couldn't care less about him though.

Dear should cry. Insta-favorite.

geez, the way some people talk you'd think it would be better to just have show matches between the two most popular players... forget having tournaments at all, am i right?
the winners earned their wins

THIS. Seriously guys give some people some credit. I realize everyone has their favorite and all that, but man, don't act like the game is broken because the more liked person didn't win or something. If anything, it shows how pretty balanced the game is right now with one play style not able to dominate the scene. The most adaptive players and players who are able to morph with their opponents play style will show they are able to contend year after year. For some reason people haven't figured that out yet and are too busy focusing on one specific play style. More and more we are seeing winners of tournaments that come into the games with completely open minds and smart/intelligent builds and strategies that are highly adaptive and reactive. It's quite exciting because you never know who's going to pull it off, and rooting for the underdog is pretty rewarding these days.
I'm sure if there was one person just dominating the scene people would be complaining in the reverse, saying nobody has a chance and things are stale, nobody we root for gets a win because "blank" wins everytime. C'mon, enjoy yourselves! lighten up some :D

Didn't seem like it, as he wasn't very consistent prior to HotS. He had a brief surge early in 2012, then fell off the wagon for awhile. The main thing he had that was notable for the longest time was his competitiveness at such a young age. He was regarded as the weakest starter pokemon while Life and Creator lit the world on fire.
The table's have turned lately though >_>

No matter what you guys say you're not going to change the minds of some people that aren't excited for the finals. This isn't even a SC2 thing. Prime example: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=100923
No one cared then, even when it was Brood War and everything in Brood War is awesome because It's BROOD WARRRR. It has nothing to do with sc2 being dead or anything like that, people just won't care about a finals between two players they don't care about.
