worst that could happen :p

The better players won anyways. The better players today.

That's the thing with SC2, it's about the 'better players today' rather than about the better players overall

That's so true, I don't like domination but I absolute hate it when there no gap between best and the good, one you can win the tournament and yet the next season you completely play like trash. I used to have hype when new blood come to the scene but imho really miss the time where we have a king to hail for and eager to watch a game if he can be dethroned, now for months not even a single ppl can get two consecutive title.

Individual sports indeed need heroes, domination is usually good for the scene, look at Federer and Tiger woods era. On the contrary, team sports usually flourish when no team dominates.

PEOPLE, some finals need to be unhyped in order for the others to be bright enough.

When was the last time that GSL Champion won his second title?
This unhyped period lasts incredibly long.

Life? If you don't count Blizzard Cup I guess the last time a player won a second, third or fourth title would be 2012 season 2.

The last time someone won a second title excluding blizzard cup was the world championship in 2011 I think. never mind It's GSL May 2011

Well I'm going to watch and enjoy the finals.

It's funny both Dear and soO were 2 of the 3 players that qualified through hell to play at that last MLG.
Refer to my post.

Being sad (or angry) that the results that people wanted is normal and part of any sport, but reading replies in this thread is just depressing. Maybe all the screams of "SC2 IS DEAD" has finally worked all the way into peoples mind now.

Finals are gonna be good, haven't had a ZvP in a while, might be a close series, might be a stomp, might be one (or two) new Best starcraft 2 players in the world for 2 weeks until a new underdog come and beat them. Who knows, who cares. Let's just look forward to a (hopefully) good finals.

The problem is that for the past two years all the GSL were won by underdogs.
It’s not interesting for me to watch tournaments where underdogs ALWAYS defeat previous champions.

Congrats to them.
"Bunch of ungrateful so-called 'starcraft fans'"? Get off that page. Show me one soccer fan who goes "Whoa, those totally unexpected, considered not-championship-quality teams got to the finals, I'm totally gonna cheer for them because I like soccer so much! Oh, well, they kicked my fav team out of the tournament? doens't matter, I'm a true fan of the game!".

My precious favorite players didn't make it to the finals, instead, some for me uninteresting and boring players did. So what? As much as you can feel joy about that I can feel sadness and disappointment about that! So stop insult those who actually care for who is in the finals, because those are fans of players, and stop calling them angrateful or bitchy.

What the f*** is your last sentence with the finals even about? Well, EVERY final "might be a close series, might be a stomp, might be one (or two) new Best starcraft 2 players in the world for 2 weeks until a new underdog come and beat them". Don't you get that this is why people are mocking about Dear and soO? Because Maru and Soulkey were considered being long-term consistent players (SK: winning a season, getting high placements and stuff, Maru: winning a season, trying to prove now he's no fluke) and what the hell happens? two flukes win. What the fuck is your post even about?

I never really understand this with these comments.

I for one will watch, this might be alot better then what we have seen from our Favorite players, who often performed sub par in finals or completly stomp.

You're giving Maru a chance to prove he isn't a fluke, but you aren't giving Dear or soO a chance to prove they aren't? Maru wasn't exactly a long term consistent player. He's been around, but only came into the championship conversation last season. He might still be a fluke.

And yeah I'd cheer for a team like Millwall or Alcorcon if they ever made it to their respective country's cup finals, even if they beat my favorite teams along the way.

Of course I'd cheer for my team first and foremost. I'd go insane if they got there and won. But if they end up losing along the way, I'd still watch the final (after a little bit of sobbing, sure) regardless of who's playing bar any sort of scandal or perceived injustice (say, horrible refereeing decisions which I equate to Infestor Broodlord ).

You are putting words in my mouth. I am saying that if a "Whoa, those totally unexpected, considered not-championship-quality teams got to the finals, I'm totally gonna cheer for them because I like soccer so much! Oh, well, they kicked my fav team out of the tournament? doens't matter, I'm a true fan of the game!" kind of team made the finals at the expense of my team, I would still watch the game. Maybe I wouldn't cheer for them, maybe I would (if they faced a greater rival or a team I dislike).

I'm giving chances to both of those final players, as I started my post with, congrats to them. But I'm really angry about that guy saying that those who are disappointed in sk and maru failing are whiners and stuff. And, blame me for that, I will be one of the people not watching the finals. I'm EU-based, getting up that early is not worth for me when it's about players I do not care about.

Yes, I cheer the underdog all the time. One thing though, they have to win in style. Maru is the marine princess, he has his style for sure. But dear and soo aren't that memorable, at least so far.
I'll give the final a shot. I hope they turned out to be surprising good.

Congrats to them.
"Bunch of ungrateful so-called 'starcraft fans'"? Get off that page.

You're giving Maru a chance to prove he isn't a fluke, but you aren't giving Dear or soO a chance to prove they aren't? Maru wasn't exactly a long term consistent player. He's been around, but only came into the championship conversation last season. He might still be a fluke.

And yeah I'd cheer for a team like Millwall or Alcorcon if they ever made it to their respective country's cup finals, even if they beat my favorite teams along the way.

In other words you really don’t care who is playing in the final? You would support and watch with equal interest just anybody?

Of course I'd cheer for my team first and foremost. I'd go insane if they got there and won. But if they end up losing along the way, I'd still watch the final (after a little bit of sobbing, sure) regardless of who's playing bar any sort of scandal or perceived injustice (say, horrible refereeing decisions which I equate to Infestor Broodlord ).

Well yeah he was a tad overboard on calling out people for being upset. Anyone would be upset if their favorite lost. I still don't think it's a reason to not watch the finals though, considering PvZ is one of the more interesting matchups lately.

Yes, I cheer the underdog all the time. One thing though, they have to win in style. Maru is the marine princess, he has his style for sure. But dear and soo aren't that memorable, at least so far.
I'll give the final a shot. I hope they turned out to be surprising good.

Dear is certainly not as stylistic as Trap, but his play isn't as (seemingly) one dimensional as Rain's. He's somewhere in the middle. We've only had this season to really gauge his style of play so it's too soon to say whether his play has personality or not. Personally, I like how he mixes up standard greedy stuff with aggressive openings (such as his blink stalker after expand on Yeonsu. He is interesting, we just haven't seen enough.

soO on the other hand, is harder to call. Zerg isn't a very stylistic race, and there are really few who stand out playstyle-wise such as Symbol.

From a hype and personality standpoint, perhaps they are comparable. But gameplay wise I think we can't really say that this is another Sniper Finals. That was during the time of zerg dominance, with ZvZ a stale and uninteresting matchup for most. On the other hand we have a PvZ which is right now a very interesting matchup strategically due to the number of potential build orders.

Never gonna make new favorites unless you start watching their games, right? I bet you weren't a fan of the players you mentioned when they began, but had to give them a chance to win you over.

I'm not saying you SHOULD watch it, but I see no reason not to unless it's inconvenient.

But don't say zerg is not not stylish race. There're Nestea who is, you know, nestea. And aggressive DRG with his gestures. Leenock with the burrowed baneling and GangNam Style. Also life with the early speed ling aggression. Soulkey with the non-stop harassment and soulkey-innovation hyper. Not to mention Hyun's roach-heavy style and king of fighter club. Scarlett's creep spread.
