Its been a while since that's happened. I still think SoO will win it though. GSL hates Protoss soO is under Soulkey's curse though. And this is not MvP, is it :D?

Shouldn't our finalists be quite evenly matched? I see potenital for a good final.. hype doesn't really mean anything

Could have had Maru Soulkey finals... and we get soO Dear.
Plus Trap is the one to come out of him, jjakji, Parting, Rain for the placements. Yuck.

Season 5 as a whole though, was pretty meh as GSLs go though. Super rushed, mass elimination of favourites, and none of the final 4 particularly interesting champion prospects at the time, especially given the quarterfinalists they eliminated.

Poor Dear and SoO both making it to the finals of the hardest tournament, beating all the fan favorites, comming in as the underdogs that no one saw make it.... just so a bunch of ungrateful so-called "starcraft fans" starts to bitch and cry like they always do, just because their precious favorite players wasn't good enough to repeat their former succes.
Being sad (or angry) that the results that people wanted is normal and part of any sport, but reading replies in this thread is just depressing. Maybe all the screams of "SC2 IS DEAD" has finally worked all the way into peoples mind now.
Finals are gonna be good, haven't had a ZvP in a while, might be a close series, might be a stomp, might be one (or two) new Best starcraft 2 players in the world for 2 weeks until a new underdog come and beat them. Who knows, who cares. Let's just look forward to a (hopefully) good finals.

Yes, I agree. Hype does not mean a good final. Both players have had great runs and have earned their finals spot. And like the poster above me, I don't get the hate, either. Sure, I would have been hyped for Maru v SK. That is a good story. But, Dear v SoO is not so bad, either. Quite a bit of hype can be built around these two in the week ahead, if done right.
Anyway, assuming it is at a good time, I will be tuning in and hoping for a good long PvZ series.

I've been a huge believer for months that SC2 fans have turned that Reddit post into a self fulfilling prophecy. Two new players in the finals is met with jeers and angry shouts about how boring the two players that they've never watched will be even though they never gave them a shot. Appropriate downsizing of the SC2 scene has people balling their eyes out over guy who either used to be good in BW or was never good at all. No one ever cares about the guys who never made it far until they retire, and only then it gives them more ammunition to cry about how awful Blizzard is.
Kind of sad what this community has become in some ways.

Wow, SoO just made SoulKey look like a complete newb. I can't understand why SK didn't do anything but make roaches that second game. Even getting burrow would have made a difference, even if he didn't think he could sneak infestors into the composition.
Dear really outplayed Maru, I just hope his PvZ is as good as his PvT.

You or anyone else not caring about dear and soo is fine, in fact, it's more than fine, it's how it should be. I'm not saying that people SHOULD care (caus if you don't, you don't, simple as that). My problem is how some people. that don't care about Dear or soO, is how they imply that, not only did they NOT deserve to be in the finals (because Maru and Soulkey are popular, and they are not) but that somehow Dear and SoO (who made it to the finals, beating those two + a ton) are hurting the scene because they won't generate viewers enough.
This is so wrong for several reasons, so i will only mention two:
1) That if you are not cool (AKA popular), your not allowed to win. Look at Sniper, fuck, poor guy is a running joke, and he won a GSL, a GSL! but nope, Sniper won doing the Zerg dominance, ZvZ finals (mirror finals brings the worst out in people btw) etc. That means that even you become a champion (something that most will never be, not even the most popular ones) no one will see or think of you as a champion. Winning the hardest tournament in the world? Nope not good enough, try again or infact please don't
2) If players that aren't famous or popular gets disregarded for winning tournaments, how the hell can anyone achieve it? Look at Maru for christ sake. Before season 2, almost no one cared or thought of anything about him. Then he won, showing people how cool he is and BAM = super popular. before that GSL, Maru was just like Dear and soO are now, not well known, not many fans. Now look at him. But if people are so against two underdogs/unkowns playing in the finals, how can they (or anyone) achieve anything? Because the thing is: There was a time when Mvp wasn't Mvp, there was a time, when MC wasn't MC (in fact he was a suicide toss), Nestea(ZergBong, okay i stop now) Everyone at some point was unkown, underdog. Bisu, Jaedong, Flash, anyone, but all of them and many more achieved greatness. So how come Dear and SoO can't? (not saying that they won't btw, i'm sure they are already getting a tons of fans - as they deserve)
So no, i don't mind people that are not being exited about these two in the finals. But blaming them for it (the irony...) is so wrong on so many levels.

I also mean in terms of players. I couldn't give less of a fuck about the existence of either of the two finalists.

And that the results are hurting the viewership is a simple, cold fact. In fact, the KESPA medicore players are dominating Korean scene right now, which hurts the GSL and OSL's viewership pretty bad. The dear vs trap ro8 had only 6 pages of discussion on TL. People don't hate them, they simply don't care.
The reason for that is 1. there aren't any new fans coming to SC2 scene; 2. It's hard for old fans to feel connected with kespa new talents.
These are all just observations. How to turn this over, growing the scene, and attracts new fans for new talents are blizzard's major task.
Again, we are not against any players. In fact, I am gonna root hard for a new protoss champion. But you can't blame anyone for the indifference.
Actually Maru is another story. Maru has been around since the beta. He's never been a superstar, but with very decent acknowledgement. Not to mention that Maru is a extreme young and stylish player. The hyper around him is not a surprise. Same thing happened with Life, he has been around for a while and wins game in style. When he did shine, easily attracts the aura.

as much as I would like Maru to start his legacy going two finals in a row, Dear has finally put a protoss in the GSL finals in a while

honestly I'm not sold on this 'finally a protoss gsl finalist' business when the osl last season had a very similar format and rain was in it lol

I'll be rooting for Dear this time.
I want Soul to have a new power-hitter which they actually probably already had in Dear.
And I want Soo to have motivation which he already has, and I don't want him to get too good.

The reason people are excited about a Protoss GSL finalist (despite there being a Protoss in the OSL finals) is because there are so few Protoss GSL champions. Seeing Zerg and Terrans regularly win GSLs is a luxury Zerg/Terran fans have that Toss fans don't, so we take what we can get

As for the bolded part - it's not. It's actually pretty easy, just read up on them and their team when they are playing a match. BW Liquipedia is your friend. You would be amazed how much epicness is in those pages - I also was when the Kespa players switched - so amazed, that me, a guy who has never watched any professional BW games, has become a huge fan of Proleague and Kespa players...

"I can't connect with these new players" is such a crummy close minded reason. Everyone was new and unknown at one point.
Like I have said earlier, if we never gave people a chance to get to know them and like how they play, we'd never have new favorites, new legends, new stories to tell. Clinging to old favorites and shunning new great players is what causes games to die.
