It's not the damage, it's the fact it slows your opponents attack down.

Don't think he had the money to sac 8 drones and 800 minerals to just protect one expansion. but in diamond when i build lots of spines and spores at each base i win!

There is no risk anymore, because everyone gave up on building static defense, because medivac can just boost through em. So now it is even easier to drop everywhere, because there are no zones to avoid and nothing that will damage the Medivacs. With Mutas regenerating now, I was missing a harassment unit that you cannot kill but have to weaken it until it has to pull back. Though Medivacs are easy to replace haha.

He got a 5th and two 3rd places during the second half of the year, also winning an IEM and a DreamHack invitational. I'd say that's not so bad. ![]() Plus 2nd in Blizzard Cup in a pretty nerve-wrackingly insane series. He was considered the best ZvT player in the world by far, and he was losing left and right to Terrans in tournaments. He got knocked out of his first MLG by Mvp & MMA, then from the next one by Bomber. The best ZvT players had 50-55% win rate in the matchup, while top Terran players had 70-80%. In his prime, he barely won a Dreamhack 3-2 over Thorzain. Yes, Thorzain took 2 maps from DRG in bo5. In the IEM he won, he only played 1 Terran, Strelok, and only won 2-1. That's how well the best ZvT player in the world was doing at the time.

The key word is static. Terran can drop and kill drones, hatchery or tech. Build static defenses to defend all three and you won't have any units.

On Newkirk, Leenock was floating 1500 mins with four bases up. Instead of giving himself the option to push out onto Innovation's side of the map, he allowed Innovation to run him ragged with drops. Even if he was able to delay drops at one or two bases with spines instead of stretching his entire army he would have had a chance.
