IIRC Polt is hovering around 80% winrate on ladder atm including a nice series wins over the KTFlash account (who was the #1 player a week or so). I'd definitely rate him as a top 3 HOTS Terran. And it's mostly just incorporating HOTS units into his playstyle (i.e. not entirely dependent on Hellbat all-ins/drops).

It's actually very small changes in the feeling of the game.
The reapers > Window mines pressure keep terran very safe to be greedy, but zerg have a hard time defending it.
They have to get some units, or a slower third, etc. If they don't, they will lose a lot of drones.
After that not much have changed.
It's basicly Mutalingbane vs marinetanks, but with better mutalisk on one side, and better medivacs on the other.
But the early make it so terran has more momentum going into midgame.
It's a bit like in 2011 when 4 hellions was enough to make a zerg stuck on 2 bases while you take your third base as terran. Zerg just don't have a strong midgame without the early 3 bases + 75 drones

There are other things that tilt it in the Terran's favor in the midgame beyond just the pressure Terran can put early on. Muta/Ling has never been a cost efficient style for Zerg, and a widow mine hit here and there that blows up a bunch of Lings or Banes, kills a Muta for free etc makes that worse. Polt didn't show much of this, but Terran can also support his army with mines, making it very cost inefficient for Zerg to engage. Overseers don't solve this.
In WoL, when Zerg plays Muta/Ling, winning an engagement means being able to kill at least a few of the medivacs with Mutas, but in HotS they just stim and run away, so once again, it's less cost efficient for the Zerg.
