ASUS ROG announces a $10 000 invitational tournament in cooperation with The GD Studio called ASUS ROG The GD Invitational.
This year ASUS ROG has put together two great events, ASUS ROG Winter 2012 and ASUS ROG Summer 2012, but we are not yet done with ASUS ROG tournaments in 2012. At October 13-14 ASUS ROG takes a leap over the bay and for the first time brings the competition to Stockholm, Sweden. The GD Studio, who handled the stream production at the last ASUS ROG event, kindly welcomes eight StarCraft 2 players in their home and sets up a show once again in the name of a tournament that is ASUS ROG The GD Invitational.
Much like the ASUS ROG Invitational held last year, the GD Invitational is a two day purely invitational tournament, for which ASUS ROG will invite eight European StarCraft 2 players. The first three invites have already been sent out for ROG.elfi, Empire.Kas and Liquid.Ret. The rest of the invites are revealed later. The prize pool of the tournament is $10 000 USD.
The founder of The GD Studio, James “2GD” Harding, gave a comment about the event:
"We're excited to turn our house, where it seems everyone just plays video games, into a house where people come and play video games! Pease don't sleep in my bed, the sheets need changing. Otherwize, Best of luck to all competitors, we hope we put on a great tournament for ASUS ROG!"
Unfortunately EG.Stephano.RC has cancelled his participation to the event.
EG has provided a quick statement about the matter:
Evil Geniuses will be release a comprehensive statement on the matter shortly. We are extremely grateful that the event organizers were so understanding given the proximity to the event. We hope their tournament is a success, and we look forward to cheering on Marcus "ThorZaIN" Eklof who will still be competing.
-- Cody Conners, General Manager, Evil Geniuses
Despite the short notice, a replacement has already been found and TLAF-Liquid.TLO will be taking Stephano's place in the tournament.
ASUS ROG The GD Invitational announces the groups that are going to start the $10 000 USD tournament off next Saturday, 13. October.
At the end of this week The GD Studio welcomes ASUS ROG under their roof as the ASUS ROG The GD Invitational is about to start. Eight top European players have been invited to the GD house to determine who is the new ASUS ROG champion. With just a few more days until the event gets going, it is time to release the groups.
Reminder: the groups are played in round robin format with bo3 matches. The top three players in each group advance to the playoffs with the group winners placed straight into the second round.
Rough Schedule Due to the casual nature of the event, a formal schedule is not available beforehand. However, a rough schedule can be drawn from the fact that all tournament games will be streamed individually, one by one.
ASUS ROG announces the full player list and more details about the upcoming $10 000 USD invitational tournament ASUS ROG The GD Invitational held in Stockholm 13-14 October.
Only two weeks to go until the next ASUS ROG Tournament starts in Stockholm, Sweden. As we previously announced, eight European players are invited to battle over the trophy in the two day tournament in a laid back environment provided by the GD Studio crew and their house. Earlier, we revealed three names ( ROG.elfi, Empire.Kas, TLAF-Liquid.Ret), but now the roster is complete with the remaining five invites going to some of the best names in Europe: EG.Stephano.RC, EG.ThorZaIN.RC, mouz.MaNa, Karont3.LucifroN and FnaticRC.NightEnD.
There has been a change in the tournament format since the last announcement. The group stage will be played in a round robin format instead of the GSL style double tournament format. The reason for this is that with only one player dropping out in a group the usual problems in a round robin system are avoided, and also the GSL style group doesn’t leave much suspense for the last match as both of the players are going to advance regardless of the result.
More details such as groups and schedule released closer to the tournament.
6 player single-elimination playoffs (group winners advance directly to semi-finals)
Map pool
TheGD Daybreak (6x1 middle base)
TheGD Antiga Shipyard (No gold bases, forced cross-spawns)
TheGD Entombed Valley (Horizontal spawns disabled)
TheGD Cloud Kingdom
TheGD Ohana

After the last Asus, The GD studio is a huge favourite for many - I showed ppl the Highlights video of the last one who don't even know Starcraft and they thought it was amazing
ah nice, i´ve watched both the summer and winter ASUS tournaments and loved them. Does 2GD mind me comming over and hanging with the players and casters?
Excited to see he full list of players! I couldn't turn their last tournament off for a second for the fear of missing something hilarious. Can't wait!
In GSL the last match doesn't decide who gets first in the group but who gets second/third in the group, and since both second and third advance to the next stage this match would indeed be pointless (unless there is still some seeding going on).

Well, I assume 2nd place plays 3rd place, so ye I guess those matches are of much less importance, and may even end up in situations where you want to lose for the 2nd match to be played.

That is exactly what I was fearing, since the last match doesn't really decide who advances and the winner's match decides who gets a bye, we might see players not even aptemting something in the last match
So we will have Apollo casting and 2gd hosting ... actualy that's already enough to get excited ! Then Elfi, Ret and Kas aswell, looking even better can't wait for the other invites.

Well it says "GD Invitational", IdrA won the Asus ROG Invititational, and 8 top European players in the GD house - so something like a HSC light focussed on EU players.

BM! And from someone so keen to sound off about not reading OP's ♥ It's a GD Studio European event, like so many GD things they happen to be sponsored by ASUS ROG. Sure it'll be awesome!

Indeed! I'll miss not having that (it was a local tech/trade show) to attend. I was also a little surprised that SETT TV (the Finnish eSports organization) announced this. Oh well, still should be a great show to watch!
EDIT: I'm of course assuming that ASUS ROG won't run two tournaments in quick succession.

I personally wouldn't invite him to any tourney I ran, for the same reason I wouldn't invite dimaga, though if there were qualifiers for my tournament I wouldn't stop them from joining. I believe after their BW incident, they deserve a second chance at a gaming career, but I wouldn't give them any special privileges such as invites to big tourneys after what they did in BW.
