Competitive FPS is supposed to be hella fast? Quake is probably the fastest and even that isn't so fast that aim and reflex are null.

It completely blows my mind that this doesn't have first person view. It is just so essential! The game could be so much funner to watch if it did.

I enjoyed playing Tribes as a casual game, but I don't really see it succeeding in eSports. On another note, I can't wait for the grand finals for SC2.

And because it's so fast it takes "skill" *cough* luck *cough* to actually get a kill. The mechanics of Tribes are very very basic... I'm not a Tribes expert by any stretch, but I guess the game boils down to: -mastering the movement in tribesIt's actually very hard to move so fast and maintain that speed, as you sort of "surf" around the map. You have to utilize the terrain and rocket/grenade jumps the thrust yourself around the map and maintain high speed. -mastering aimingMost weapons in this game are projectile based, so aiming them is, of course, very hard... simply moving the crosshair onto your opponent won't do. and then there's vehicles, tactical weapons, choice of gear... and all that jazz...
Aiming in Tribes is complicated by the fact that almost all projectiles "inherit" a portion of the player's speed when he fired them. This is much less common in other FPS games.

I think 1:30 AM is reasonable enough, and I'm from EU as well. so you live off of walfare then or are a kid who does not have to work on monday. good for ya! i dont expect prime time broadcast but 1:30 am fucking sucks balls!
Or, ya know, you can be an adult who doesn't work on Mondays. Regardless, I'm afraid there's this thing called timezones, caused by living on a spherical planet that rotates while orbiting a star, and there's very little that NASL can do to fix that. Someone, somewhere, gets boned. 1:30am is not that bad.

Are you really saying aiming in this game isn't important, or it's all luck?

wow when did the starcraft community evolve into a bunch of snob-elitist people who can't even watch another e-sports candidate game constructively for 1 hour?

it seems that everyone's so pissed at NASL for about 10 different (mostly legitimate). therefore it's a shame that it's NASL who are showcasing the brilliant tribes:ascend but still pretty good exposure

I enjoy playing Tribes, but damn it's boring to watch. They really need to figure a way to make the observer interface more interesting, because the way it is now, it only look like a big mess of guys flying around each others.

Not gonna lie, I don't understant shit at what s happenning in this game xD

Don't judge by the LR threads

Holy crap how do they hit anything with the players just floating and darting around so much?
Are the hitboxes really big or something?

Who's this host I'm reading about, I'm interested in checking her out I can't tune in to watch and I don't think her full name has been mentioned in thread.

Since Tribes, apparently.

I don't get why everyone has to get all irritated about having to watch the finals of another game. It's not all that foreign of an fps concept, comparable in some ways to Unreal and I'm pretty sure we have all played a game of Halo CTF in our time. Game has its own little quirks ect. If anything just enjoy watching something new and chill out, relax, get a little cultured or just take a break from staring at you computer screen :/
On topic, it's really sad there is no first person spec, the casters are doing an absolutely amazing job casting this.

I think it happened sometime during Brood War.

I guess they were looking for an excuse to bash on another game when all the BW players said similar things about SC2. People don't seem to understand that a game that requires less skill =/= trash. For example football (soccer) is the most popular sport but it is by no means the most difficult sport to master.
