It's understandable that the dates conflicted with WCS because NASL didn't announce WCS Canada until very late, but IPL needs to be flexible about this. Besides which, there are other ways to run a qualifiers than squeezing it all in one weekend and making it a one shot. Staggering the quals into different weekends - ala TSL 4 - is the best way to get maximum coverage from players. They have EIGHT spots to fill, and just taking the top 8 from one qualifier and having that qualifier happen during NASL and WCS Canada is ridiculous.
Agreed. The conflict really isn't the issue, and it's even likely that it was caused by WCS Canada picking their date carelessly. What matters is how that conflict is then handled. When you realize your tournament conflicts with another tournament in a way that will hurt the caliber of your own event or otherwise affect it negatively, you need to do something about it. What has IPL done about this other than saying "sorry, better luck next time"? Did they even realize there was a conflict? Did they try to work out something with NASL/WCS? Did they contact team managers to notify them of the conflict?

Presumably, EG's player manage Evoli took note of the dates when they were first announced. Also, the IPL guys say that they've been keeping the various team managers informed about the various qualifiers as they approached.
The conflicts of dates do suck, but I kind of agree with this. EG players seem blindsided by the dates, but it's up to the managers to inform the players of these things too. Xeris is one manager I always see making sure his players know about things like these or asking questions about them all the time.

Mm do they not have casting jobs at NASL? Easily more money, fun and team/sponsor exposure than getting stomped in IPL 5 bracket round 2 or 3.
Sad for the South Americans and Canadians playing in WCS though.
I 100% agree that the fact that it overlaps with so much; really sucks. However, how do we blame IPL for this? Weren't they the ones who announced this date first? Shouldn't the pitchforks be thrown up at other events that overlapped with IPL dates; rather than IPL?
That being said though, IPL your tournament is an online qualifier..your schedule should be a lot more flexible and I would suggest changing these dates slightly to better accomodate.
I don't understand why IPL events are all played throughout one day when there isn't a reason to rush them (the live event isn't announced yet?). There have been many tours that space out games and allow you to schedule a series with your opponents over a span of weeks. IPL doesn't even cast the qualifier games anyway, right?
edit: o u do.. well u can cast replays whatever lulz
IPL should not have to accomodate the other leagues, even though it's in their best interest to do so... but maybe they just don't care about NA players since koreans will win the thing anyway oo

I don't think IPL is to blame for the fact that it overlaps, but they should be more flexible for their own good, it only helps the player pool.
Setting dates for a qualifier is not a fire and forget thing, if you notice it doesn't work out as you wanted it to, you should be able to change it by all means.
If they had looked at the dates three or four weeks ago and said, "Oh, NASL and the Canadian WCS is at the same time, what can we do about it", they'd have found an easy solution. Now, it's pretty difficult and shit already hit the fan.
European Satellite next weekend conflicts with MLG Arena and WCS Ukraine/Russia. Early rescheduling could have avoided a lot of this, I still see no reason for it not to be on week days.
Is ipl retarded or just stubborn? Why wouldnt they change their qualifier dates when many of the top players from that region will be at other tournaments?
I dont ever remember receiving an email about satellige qualifiers. I got one in general awhile ago and one for the direct regionals , never any notice of satellite qualifiers however.
Pointing go a thread that few people saw posted in May isnt a justification. This is exposing huge format flaws in IPL, its like several events of poorly thought out formatting, I dont understand ghis at all.
I can almost guarsntee thst no team leader was contacted dirdctly on Skype about i

Yeah, these were announced at least a month ago. Just do a search of "ipl5" and you will see the original announcement thread. This is basically a 48 hour reminder for anyone who forgot.
Simply fact is all of this stuff was announced way in advanced. I remember the older thread that was posted in May. The way Starcraft 2 is playing out currently, as a player, you aren't going to be able to make it to every event that you want to go to, you are going to have to choose your battles. Also keep in mind that these companies/organizations are competing. Might as well get used to it because as long as the SC2 scene keeps growing this is just going to happen more and more.

I emailed admin@lightesports.com on Tuesday. This is the email you told me to send notifications to. If you have a new one, let me know.
Would it be possible for players competing in WCS Canada or NASL to still participate in the satellite but have the whole "forfeits and walkovers will be used if needed" rule relaxed? It's an online qualifier tournament, so while it runs less smoothly, it should still be able to fulfill its purpose. I dunno how many players would be willing to do that, since playing 2 tournaments at once would probably be a headache, but maybe a few more notable players will be in

that sounds awful for the people playing only in ipl. not gonna wait around an hour for a wcs canada player to finish their set.
on the bright side some more unknown extremely gosu NA players will get more spots. I mean it sucks that alot of known players can't play but just because they can play doesn't mean they will actually win. And please don't hate on IPL, we should be thankful they actually host qualifiers to give NA more of a chance instead of just inviting a bunch of popular people that are going to get steam rolled and make NA look weak.
