Seriously, AskJoshy, give me a valid reason why you waited until now to post this thread. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=337913
Yes, there is an announcement thread with the links in there. That doesn't answer my question.
Why not make this thread a month ago? Clearly players needed more reminding.

To add to this, players are not only training, but they have a lot of tournament dates to remember. So the more reminders, the better.

So now it's on tournament organizers to remind their players? I thought this was typically handled by team management?

Isnt reminding players as well as signing them up a managers responsibility? I always see Xeris from Light asking if Golden and Kawaii are registered because he signs them up. Clearly bigger teams also have people who do this right? or at least they should have someone because obviously players cant handle it themselves.
I think this is just pure hating on IPL they announced when they planned their qualifiers, they cant adjust to all schedules. We have seen tourneys overlap before not a big deal.

You can expect that the big teams will know of these schedules. IPL is not really to blame here. I don't even know if the cooperation of WCS Canada with NASL has been annouced when IPL made their schedule, it is unfortunate but such things happen Edit: I just looked at the NASL site and it seems that they annouced their dates one day after IPL.

You know - the conflict between NASL and IPL is one thing. They are competing leagues, etc. It still really sucks of course. But having your NA qualifier as the same time as WCS Canada? You're excluding a large chunk of NA players!
|
all the players who wont be able to participate in this:
me, idra, incontrol, scarlett (top story of ur last IPL), jecho, tt1, drewbie, slush, jecho, kane, ostijiy, dde, ddoro etc.
|
so disappointing that it;s going to miss so many top NA players it is just an online qualifier seems like it could have been moved around a bit
|
scheduling an online event to not overlap with offline events isn't that hard.
|
I dont understand why IPL thinks MLG or NASL would worry about scheduling in conflict with a Satellite, and why they think players would chose to not go to a major lan for it.
|
I don't get why Idra and incontrol can't participate ? They're neither canadian nore playing the nasl playoffs.

It's understandable that the dates conflicted with WCS because NASL didn't announce WCS Canada until later, but IPL needs to be flexible about this. Besides which, there are other ways to run a qualifiers than squeezing it all in one weekend and making it a one shot. Staggering the quals into different weekends - ala TSL 4 - is the best way to get maximum coverage from players. They have EIGHT spots to fill, and just taking the top 8 from one qualifier and having that qualifier happen during NASL and WCS Canada is ridiculous. You're going to get a lot of people who don't have the skills to be there this way - just because the pros are playing elsewhere.

They are both casting the NASL finals.

They're casting for NASL. Unfortunate for them being players, but yeah.

Hmm, I don't think progamers learn about this from TL posts, they should've been told by their team managers a long time ago, so the date of this thread is kinda irrelevant.
The only Satellite excluding half of the decent players due to scheduling is unlucky, even if the dates were announced beforehand, no one will drop out of WCS for this, so it's just a sign of bad scheduling to begin with to play qualifiers on week-ends and of a bad format if that's your only qualifier so you can only pray everyone is able to attend.
If you want the best players at your events, you should have been flexible about it. If you don't, I guess it's fine, but you have to accept that a lot of people will give you shit.
Nothing will change if the tournaments don't work together on their event scheduling and this won't happen as long as all the big NA tournaments are trying to establish themselves as the clear No. 1 event in North America and actively work against the competing leagues.
It's not like MLG for example is any better, their qualifiers conflicted with WCS and other things as well, just the outcry wasn't as big because no EG players were affected.
|
This is the reason why you need multiple qualifiers for your event. As soon as IPL saw the conflicts they should have changed date or switch into multiple satellites. Not doing anything is silly, but team managements should have already communicated these issues to IPL as well.

I'm kind of surprised that EG's management didn't inform their players of the qualifier date earlier.
Presumably, EG's player manager Evoli took note of the dates when they were first announced. Also, the IPL guys say that they've been keeping the various team managers informed about the various qualifiers as they approached.
Edit: Corrected spelling.

So some top euros will be excluded as well if I am not mistaken? The Arena was announced a full month after our Satellites as well. Events overlap, it can't be helped. MLG has their schedule, NASL has their schedule, and we have ours. It's unfortunate that busy players can't play in everything, but on the other side of the coin, some new or unexpected players may be able to see some success. We are grateful that IdrA and yourself would like to participate in this Satellite, but StarCraft tournaments are a very busy space right now. It does create the question why not more tournaments run their qualifiers on weekdays like TSL has done.
