The wait for more eSports in SoCal is over!
Event Info:
SoCal Esports is proud to announce the third installment in the SoCal Esports LAN Competition Circuit, Mission Viejo. As the organizers of Barcraft Irvine, Los Angeles, and San Diego, we use any funds and support from the barcraft to hold tournaments here in the area to help the growth and stability of eSports. We have given away over $4,000 in cash and prizes over our last 2 events, and this one will be no different. We have collected a prize pool of $1000 for the StarCraft 2 tournament and $525 for a League of Legends tournament. As our community and support grows, so will the prize pools.
We understand that not all who are passionate about eSports have the ability or time to dedicate to becoming a professional player, so we are giving everyone the opportunity to play in a tournament setting with players near their skill level. Our last events had two divisions divided by a player's ranking on the official Blizzard ladder, but this time we will be breaking the groups up even further to lessen the disparity between the player's skills. The divisions will be Bronze to Gold, Platinum/Diamond, and Masters and up.
In addition to the SC2 event, we will once again be hosting a League of Legends 5v5 tournament. Our last tournament saw six local teams come out to compete, and we hope to see more teams for this growing eSport make it out this time.
Watch the tournament when it goes Live! *Casters for the tournaments will be announced as we get closer to the day of the event.

CABLE WHY YOU GOTTA MAKE IT SUNDAY? T.T

Hoping to make it again with my LoL team! SoCal eSports fighting!
|
I'll be there.
I think I'll compete this time around too.
|
Great to the hear the excitement! I apologize for the late announcement everyone, a few things fell through, and negotiating with the Venue has been unique - but, getting Howie's Game Shack involved with eSports again has been one of our goals since the beginning, and we've finally been able to reach that.
We've also added the third division breakdown so that everyone feels more inclined to come compete. Gold/Silver have a much better chance at good stuff now, and Diamond also has a far better chance at some gear. Plats better step it up (hopefully that coaching you guys won last time has worked out well!)
Final Note: I noticed I forgot to update the Map Pool -- gonna update that to current MLG pool, unless anyone has suggestions/preferences. This will be completely final by Sunday and won't change after that.
On April 14 2012 14:31 FrodaN wrote: CABLE WHY YOU GOTTA MAKE IT SUNDAY? T.T
FRODAN! NOOOOOOOOOO. I'm praying that you'll be able to be there. Howie's would only go for Sunday because it's their slow day, and they didn't want to interrupt business for their typically busiest day (Saturday). Grr, but again, at least we got Howie's. Wait til you guys see this place. Bring Rotti, Bitter, Gretorp and the crew down! NASL can wait a weekend...

See now, NASL directly told me every other week, and I knew about the one on Sunday the 22nd, so I purposely did this to avoid NASL's events.... /frustratedwithpoorcommunication

Hopefully I'm able to go. Pretty sure I'm going to tomorrow(today depending on timezone) Howie's lan also. Thank you Howie's for doing so many lan tournaments

How often are these held? Saw this a little too late and I'm scheduled to work, but I'm down in San Diego and would love to play in one of these events. Seems like your second tournament was in December, so should I expect four months to be the standard-ish time in between?
|
|
Anyone driving from SD want to take me? I live in Poway and really want to go.
I'll pay for gas / buy you food / be your friend?
Also, what are the rules about Random players?

Ehh we've been working on other things and took a long winter break, but it was like 2 months(ish) between the last ones. We hold barcrafts as well so those take up time too. We are working on a project for mid June though, so it won't be so long between events this time.

Awesome! Can't wait for this one! But is there any chance we can get an update on the map pool? Or at least the elimination of XNC?

This is the upcoming Map Pool for MLG Spring Arena 1, how does this sound to you guys?

No Ohana? awwh i loved that map too..
the only problem i see with this mappool is Metropolis, hopefully their computers don't lag like hell. This map is known to cause srs fps lag issues because of the size and the useless buildings and such -_-

Couple of Updates:
1) The Map Pool for StarCraft 2 has been revised to match the upcoming MLG Spring Arena 1 map pool. See the OP for updated maps.
2) Two Additional Repeat Sponsors Added: Gunnar Optiks and Gamer Grub! Thanks to these amazing SoCal companies for continuing to sponsor our local events. Definitely show them some love to thank all of our sponsors for their support, and if we show them well enough, they'll continue to sponsor.
Please make sure you guys are telling your own clans/teams, peers, local CSL teams (5-6hours is not much to drive for a team to win $1000), LAN center friends, people who competed last time... we want to keep building SoCal more each time. Thanks guys.

Kids need to learn to carpool haha! Not only does it save $ and time, but it's way more fun to roll up with your eSports homies. We moved it all the way down to South Orange County specifically for the San Diego people. If there was a legit LAN center in San Diego, it would be there trust me.
But you're not going to get any other competition or content like this anywhere nearby any time soon, so if you feel like having fun with the game, this is your best option (and really, a good option inherently). That goes for anywhere in SoCal...

If you are participating in that online competition, we will definitely accommodate your schedule such that you can be playing that event when you need to. Please let me know if you have these circumstances and we'll organize the schedule accordingly.
Also a few more high level players have confirmed and are coming, gonna be a really great bracket again this time. the CSL all star qualifiers is the same time/date ; is this something that can be worked around too?
Absolutely man, that would be great we love CSL

Looking forward to the event, be there in the afternoon.

But you're not going to get any other competition or content like this anywhere nearby any time soon, so if you feel like having fun with the game, this is your best option (and really, a good option inherently). I know some people who live in fullerton that are taking the train down there, you should look into it. I can give you a ride back from the LAN(same with sm1le heheheheheh)

Actually ya it's pretty legit and fairly cheap. My father-in-law takes it to work from OC->LA every day. Better than sitting in traffic, plus you get to do stuff on the ride instead of driving.

I never knew we had a train. Haha I'll look into it
EDIT: Anybody know what the train or rail is called? I can't seem to find it on Google
EDIT: looks like the metro's only schedule is on in the afternoon on the weekends. guess i can cross that out :\

It'd actually be wonderful if you can give me a ride back. That's the hard part because it ends so late.

Things are amping up for this weekend! We've actually got quite a few impressive names signed up to duke it out this Sunday -- if nothing else I'm looking forward to some incredibly impressive games. Lets just say that they've requested to play an IPL/MLG/CSL online qualifiers while attending our event...
We've also got some very decent brackets developing for the casual and amateur divisions. Those are going to be tons of fun for anyone who wants to come out to enjoy playing in a tournament, win some gear and coaching, and be part of the eSports community here in SoCal.
|
for sure comming got work off =)

Have you lined up casters for the League of Legends Tournament? I just cast the SoCal League Open (https://www.facebook.com/events/277144575698376/) last weekend which was a blast!
Over 200 people live and almost that many watching our stream! Really good turn out from some other gaming communities too. I'd love to have the chance to cast some more SoCal eSports!
|
I think I an the youngest one going only 12 and in the PRO-AM divison:D!
