It's not that mutalisks are better on crossfire than any other map - it's just that everything else is terrible on crossfire - as demonstrated.

Maybe he was afraid of 2 base fleet bacon phoenix range and didn't want to go mutalisks.

because Leenock is know for playing supersafe, while a fast third would have countered both of those builds

Wait now that Protoss learned Phoenixes actually destroy mutas. Zerg stopped making Mutas all the time. Did you watch how Nestea got dropped out of Code S!

The chokes on this map are pretty ridiculous Protoss can just move their army to kill off a base Force Field the Path with 2-3 Force Fields and simply kill a base for the Cost of a few force fields while the Zerg army can't Defend!

with the way things are shaping up there is a high chance of a new low in zerg numbers next code s, could be only 3 looking at the brackets and depending on how the up and down groups will be made up

The current meta game is for zergs to get the third asap when faced against ffe and most of the timings are figured out. 3 gate negates that and makes a zerg fear when to place a 3rd as its possible for protoss to switch to all out aggression anytime just by planting a few more gate ways. Zergs fear 3 gate expo more then ffe actually, since it allows protoss more options.

Zerg has to make units when you go gateway first, they don't need to make units when you FFE. You saw how late Leenock took a 3rd base both games. If you take it to soon, you can get hurt badly by 3-gate pressure, or killed by 5-6 gate.

because a zerg in korea seeing no forge first expects one base allin from the toss, i would assume. There was no aggression, a few month ago you would have seen endless streams of roaches and lings till the energy of the sentries went dry even without using hallucination.

Well Leenock didn't go Hatch first either, partly because of Seed's really early scout and Probe harassment.

From there on Leenock really wasn't ahead, also he made a lot of Slings when he probably should have droned and made the lings later with the same effect, well, lack of.

the key was how he was hiding all the sentries to zergling pokes, that's key to how zerg has to respond, leenock didn't drone enough and was forced into early evo and spores

It worked because Leenock decided to go for a hydra bust which didn't do anything. Crossfire is good for Mutas, which he went for way too late. Also, staying on one base for a long time tends to fool Zergs into thinking something cheesy is afoot, so Leenock also had to be a bit more defensive than usual by pumping out lings to scout/defend. It is a meta game thing.
