It is finally time for the main tournament. This tournament needs more hype!

Hoseo is just too strong for Dignitas. Hoseo takes it 5-2.

Whoa, too soon!

I wonder how Sjow and Select will fare. Bomber once said Sjow had Code S caliber TvT back in Raleigh, and Sjow even made it to the Ro16 in Code A, showing that he has Code A ability despite his low APM.

In TvT Sjow's quite solid. TvZ he's really weak though. So it really depends what race he plays. Given NSHS is a Protoss team mostly he probably won't get a TvT.

To be honest, they have been showcasing a fair amount of racial balance lately. Jjackji/Sculp/Hoon, Sage/San/Tassadar, Seal/Fairy/RealMaker... Most of them are not high-caliber players, but they tend not to be too bad either.

I could see Dignitas using Sjow to snipe Jjakji because of his strong TvT (assuming that both of them are played of course). I guess we shall find out tonight which team will come out ahead.

I would be cautious about calling NSHoSeo taking the easy victory. They've showcased insane talent in some cases and they have some really strong players.

However, they've also shown some bizarre losses in Team Leagues. I still think they're a favorite here, but not by as large a margin as some might think.

Didn't they take first in their division and made it to the semi-finals of the last GSTL? I think Dignitas' big guns like Sjow and Select could take a few games, but NSHoseo has too deep of a roster.

Of course, this is all under the assumption that the respective A-teams are sent out.

They did, but at the same time in IPL Qualifiers, first time around they lost 5-3 to dtG (Who is largely unknown, despite having some amazing players) and I believe they didn't sail comfortably through the second qualifiers.

While they have an insanely versatile and deep roster, some of their key players (Seal, San, Sage even) are very streaky, and their "B-Team" is largely untested (Fairy, RealMaker, Hoon, Sia, etc)

Also they have The Count. Why do they call him The Count? + Show Spoiler [VanVanth] +
Because every game you can count as he plants down 4 gateways.

Well then, I think a wager is in order here: If Dignitas wins, I will buy you, VirgilSC2, a virtual drink. It has no monetary or practical value, but simply a gesture of my acknowledgement of you winning the bet. But if NSHoseo all kills (5-0) or near all-kills (5-1), you buy me a virtual drink, once again, no monetary or practical value. Deal?
(Anybody else is free to take up this wager as well)

Since I can't go to a real Barcraft for this event, I guess a virtual Barcraft will do.

Closer than most people think 5-3 NSHS. In my opinion they have three exceptional players in Seal, Sage, and Jjakji but other than that the Dignitas guys can take games. Especially SeleCT, SjoW, BlinG, and Bischu. g0g0 Dignitas fighting!~

Rumored to be better I think, depending on your provider in Korea. Servers are on US West Coast.

As I understand it, it depends on where in Europe because Russian players like BratOk would have roughly the same lag as KR server players.

Don't necessarily quote me on this because this is based on something I can't remember where I got it from.

I would be cautious about calling NSHoSeo taking the easy victory. They've showcased insane talent in some cases and they have some really strong players.

However, they've also shown some bizarre losses in Team Leagues. I still think they're a favorite here, but not by as large a margin as some might think.

What server are the IPL Team Leagues played on?

Default server is North America unless both teams agree to play on a different server. They are allowed to change servers during a match as many times as needed.

hmmm if only there were a single good na player he would have a HUGE advantage lol.

Does anybody know if korea -> na is worse or better than euro -> na?

As I understand it, it depends on where in Europe because Russian players like BratOk would have roughly the same lag as KR server players.

Don't necessarily quote me on this because this is based on something I can't remember where I got it from.

It's also massively effected by your own personal connection. So Swedish internet is a lot better than UK internet, so even though we're closer to NA I wouldn't get a better connection than a Swede.

Power ranking sounds awesome. I assume it will account for all leagues not just IPL content?

There's not been any patches recently or big meta game shifts in any matchup so not a big deal imo.

This tournament deserves much more viewers.
It's a teamleague, there's koreans and it has a large prizepool.

There should be atleast 10k people watching this!

BeastMerz. Man if only he wasn't juggling sc2 and school.

Sage trying to get a bit too cute and got outpositioned, he's still not dead yet but he built a DT shrine so you know he's feeling the pressure =p

Sage is way ahead and given his massive tech advantage he was always ahead so long as he didn't completely lose to Merz's big push.

Merz also has like 4 Vikings vs 8 Collosus.

Merz was pretty close to breaking his back with that engagement at the nat. If he'd killed the robo bay before ETL finished researching it would have been even closer.

lol, that's a humungously scary deathball

for god's sake merz scan your opponents army once in a while (or run a unit in). There is no excuse for being surprised by 8 colossi....

Also if your rocks are open build a bunker and a turret to cover that side (or at least scout for proxy pylons).

It was a shame because merz almost came back from loosing that first army needlessly, but the two rather small mistakes ruined a good game for him.

Sage is a former GSL Code S semi-finalist. desrow's claim to fame is unfortunately getting 0-3ed by players in showmatches. It all depends on the skill of the players in the game.

You can wall your probe in behind the mineral line with 2 pylons, cannon in the middle, then continue walling narrower and narrower if probes start breaking through.

That was pretty much a stomp by select.
Not sure why Sage moved out with his army after sacking his third, he should have known he couldn't win that fight without charge or colossi.

Well deserved win by Select anyway

I'm presuming these are on KR since afaik SeleCT is still over there?

e: yeah it's definitely being played on KR, I guess he just wants to be known as Freaky from now on if their notes say that is his name lol xD

Koreans really need to stop changing their ID. If he did change his ID then I'm just going to call him "KoreanZerg" from now on.

Select closing this pretty sloppily TBH, but he is far too ahead to lose here. If select got some ghosts with his advantage here, then he could wrap this up in a few minutes.

those months in Korea really helped Select, i don't think i've seen him play this good in a while.

Let's hope he plays in the GSL or MLG on this level, i've always felt he has loads of potential he hasn't quite fullfilled.

He expected SeleCT to drop and not just all in up his ramp, hence a chunk of his army being in the main. Not sure on the reasoning behind having stalkers at the nat and sentry/zealot in the main and not the other way around though.

Tassadar threw that away, that was all luck by select. But I am certainly glad it happened! Select just needs to win this one, then dignitas can throw everything they have at jjakjji with a comfortable cushion.

Those losses were more on the players than the match up though. It's not like SeleCT has done anything special there (while his medivac hellion harass vs realmaker was excellent) but the Protoss he played before just completely blundered to lose the game.

Pretty good play so far by both players, but Select is slightly behind at this point. With storm done for San, he is probably going to take it.

SeleCT firmly behind again, time to see whether MANzenith is an example of good play for his teammates, or an example of throwing shit away like his teammates.

San has had one of the funniest careers. His first time in gsl he blocked his natural nexus with a pylon while FFEing. Then he beat nestea with a pre-nerf archon toilet. Then there was his great game vs. sC where he abused khaydaren amulet templar.

He has basically caused two balance changes single-handedly. (slight exaggeration)

I thought maybe he was implying that Bischu can't beat Jjakji so even if he wins this it's going to go to 4-4 anyway.

Anyone can beat anyone cross server imo though, nothing is a foregone conclusion, and that's part of why it's awesome =)

San vs Nestea was also one of the great forerunner games in PvZ for all of the strategies/tactics that eventually became an accepted part of the matchup. Late game warp prism harass with HT/DT, mothership usage, multiple tech switches in reaction to zerg tech, etc.

Take it home ManZenith.

Agree lol, San was harassing the shit outta Nestea and outmacro him at some point. Then he even beat BoxeR and Ensnare at that time ezpz. He had a great run until he hit MC - the best PvP in the world at that moment lol.

I think it was versus Check, or TheWind, or jookto... (one of those old-timey zergs that aren't really competitive anymore). It was on delta quadrant, if that helps anyone. The zerg made like 5 roaches and just walked around the cannons. This was part of why artosis was so certain san would lose horribly to nestea.

Hmmm, Sjow can definitely win against San, but ManZenith, I really doubt it. We will see who comes out for NSHS. Either way, if Sjow wins, then Jjakji comes out and wins it anyways. But nice try by Dignitas, a very good run!

Sjow is not exactly favored against San or Jjakji, but according to Bomber, Sjow has S class TvT (take it for what you will) and has survived the first round of Code A unlike many top foreigners. Jjakji's TvT is not his strongest matchup either, not terrible, but not brilliant.

No, Sjow just played badly that game, he is actually quite good of a player. Today Select carried Dignitas single-handedly quite far, but without backup, the team with the better depth won.

Sorry that this has probably been mentioned but I can't even find it on Liquipedia. (Maybe my liquipedia foo just sucks tho?)

Tomorrows match is TSL vs ReIGN right?

Edit: Yup my liquipedia foo does suck. Found it and indeed that is tomorrow's match.

SeleCT did really well...however, Dignitas really should have sent BlinG against san. san beat one Protoss, which was a miracle in itself, beating two would be near impossible for him. Perhaps they felt that SjoW is the better overall player and if he did manage to defeat san would have a better chance against NSHoSeo's ace?

EDIT: Nvm, they had already sent BlinG.

Whatever happened to TanDongHo . Before he left Korea i thought he might soon break into Code A maybe even S and showed some impressive play in the Korean Weekly. I guess he has his hands full with studiyng since he rarely ever plays for Dignitas ?

Kinda weird, yes. He played in like every clanwar when he was new on Dignitas and did fairly well imo but disappeared some time ago.

i didn't expect much from select, since i hadn't heard from him that much recently, but he was a BEAST in those matches, though to be fair, realmaker did an amazing job of staying alive for so long despite the huge initial setback. I hope SjoW gets back in shape - Dignitas haven't yet replaced the huge hole that NaNiwa left, despite how good their lesser known players are.

Thanks for watching our first match between NSHoSeo and Dignitas! How would you rate the series on a scale of 1-10? What was the most surprising part of the match, and the least surprising?

Also, please check out the LR thread for today's new match between TSL and ReIGN: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=305775

I would rate the games as a 7 and the most surprising part is that no dignitas memeber besides SeleCT won a game.

Hard to say based off of only one series. Select's play was incredible though. Not perfect, not MMA/MVP level, but exciting. His hellion harass against Freaky was super effective, I was surprised he came back against Tassadar after the 6 gate forced his natural to lift, and even his games against San were fast paced and back and forth.

San was the man of the match though, taking 3 wins and bringing NSHoseo to the victory. I am going to keep my eye on him for the rest of his tournament.

San also 3-killed Prime to win their set in the qualifier.

Select looking really impressive against Freaky though, that Hellion-medivac harass was devastating.

I really wish more Korean teams would take events like this seriously and play their aces. It's not even restricted to IPL team leagues -- several teams treated GSTL like it was a joke too.

So far it has not been too bad. NSHoseo and TSL have both played strong lineups, and the reason we did not see Polt or Jjakji was due to the lack of a true ace match.
