Hello everyone! You may recall that the group stages at IGN Pro League Origins at Caesars Atlantic City didn't quite go as planned, due to a truck crashing into a fiber line and the entire network for South Jersey going down for 8+ hours. Due to the inability to play their matches, the players of Group C were seeded randomly into our championship bracket. However, because the 1st place and 2nd place of each group were supposed to get $1,000 and $500 respectively, we had to play them out eventually to determine who gets the cash! That time is now!
The Players!
mouz.ThorZaIN Sleep (formerly of SlayerS) Liquid`HerO dignitas.SeleCT
Unfortunately, SeleCT played only one match and forfeited the rest, so only ThorZaIN, Sleep, and HerO will be competing for the cash prizes.
The format will be round-robin best of 3 series on our IPL 3 map pool. Each player will play the other two and the best series score will win. Tiebreaks are determined by head to head. In the event of a three way tie, games will be played until a clear winner has been determined.
Again, 1st Place will receive $1,000 and 2nd Place will receive $500! Imagine if you only had to win two best of 3s to earn yourselves a thousand bucks! These games are sure to be intense! Tune in at
5 p.m. PST (GMT -08:00) on Monday, November 28th! That's 8 p.m. EST, 2 a.m. CEST.
That's about 4 hours from the time of this post, so don't miss it! http://www.ign.com/ipl
IPL so awesome. Tournament over, not only rehosts the group but pays up the money as well, you guys are so awesome. No-one would've blamed you if you just ignored this. Total badasses, and that's a scary group. So SeleCT won't be playing, or he just can't win anything?
SeleCT's series that he did play will not be aired, as he forfeited the rest and we could not use his series fairly towards the other players' scores. He is only listed there because he technically was in Group C, though he is not participating in the rematch due to his own decision to forfeit.
When did Select play that match and forfeit the rest? Or did he forfeit the online rematches? So this whole thing already happened? I'm a bit confused :D
On November 29 2011 06:38 Canucklehead wrote: Wonder why select would forfeit a few online games that could have won him 1k. That's no small sum to just walk away from.
He's only won 2 games against Thorzain out of the 10 they played and HerO is insanely good so I bet he just assumed that he would lose. Still seems wierd. Unless they have a really good excuse, I don't like players forfeiting matches like this.

The games were played recently and we will be casting from replays, as we always do. =)
Ipl always is cast from reps, so I would assume Select either just lost to sleep and decided he wouldn't win so spent his time elsewhere or had major latency issues that made it unplayable. Either way thanks for the continued great events ipl
:D Pity there couldn't be a general reset and include Select in this (though you make it sound like it was played very recently in which case this makes sense?).
You've sold me. I'll watch these games. It helps that I like Thorzain and HerO, and that Sleep is Zerg so we'll have all 3 races and no mirror match ups.

ThorZain DID just win the NASL Semi-Open thing, so he's obviously been playing decently well. Can't wait to see him vs HerO, they may even get a rematch at NASL if things shake out that way.
I just got word that we'll be giving away IPL t-shirts and other goodies during each cast from now on, starting tonight! This Group C rematch begins in just 30 minutes so don't miss these epic games and a chance to win some a prize! (We'll ship anywhere in the world, but a Twitter account will be required for participation today.)

That's so rare for contests. Do you know what you're getting yourself into? Different countries have different contest laws. I think Canada requires you ask a "skill testing question" to contest prize winners, typically a simple BEDMAS math question, and they allow the use of calculators.

Oh my gosh I never realized that was only a Canadian thing! Kinda weird why we have to do it too. : /
If Hero had started earlier void production, or pulled back those 8 voids instead of losing them to mutas, he'd have it won. If Sleep displayed any control or decision making at all he'd have won.
From chat:
this is like watching two people punch eachother in the face over and over for an hour

Except Sleep was keeping his whole army above his spines while he built up econ and HerO had no way to deal with them (he had only maybe 3 blink stalkers anyways).
Edit: beaten by 3 people, complete sentences sometimes suck.

Sure, but it won't beat 5 broodlords + lings + 15 spines.

not when they are sitting over 20 spines
There were several times they drifted out of the spines reach, idk, I just think if your oppenent has twenty spines guarding his drones there is no way you out macro him. gg though
On November 29 2011 11:10 ladyumbra wrote: That was a crazy game, the first half was pretty epic but then hmm the second half was just sorta painful to watch.
Either painful or amusing. I mean, I cannot really blame either player. It must be disorientating as all hell to end up in a situation like that. Being about even in that situation must be something that just about never happens.
On November 29 2011 11:34 cledio wrote: Sleep was doing something really weird.... he had like 5000 gas and no minerals...
Hero kept raping all his drones with storm drops (most of which the casters unfortunately missed). And for some reason, Sleep never pulled all his misc gas drones or tried to remake them.
And yeah, they missed a few rather important snipes, notably the ones arfyron mentioned but also some drone massacres. But really, I guess I am not taking this all too seriously, I am too busy just smiling and being utterly fascinated by the late game antics of these two.
I really don't like protoss but even I have to admit hero plays an awesome pvz style. It's so much fun to watch and it must be incredibly brutal and frustrating to play against if you don't have amazing multitasking.

Well you mean that they were casted a few hours ago. I doubt that all 3 players were available at the same time for this event.
I didn't watch the full game (tuned in around 30 minutes) and it seemed that Sleep could've just won by hard tech switching to a ground based army when TZain had so many ghosts and Vikings.

TZ had a lot of bio, it wasn't visible at times. Sleep lost that game with all the wasted Ultras and lings imo
Instead of wasting so many Ultralisks and Zerglings and Infestors and who knows what else on the PF, he could have morphed twenty banelings and rolled it ><

Sorry if this is off-topic but I cannot help but see Tyloo up next on Team Arena. I think it is so awesome that we are going to see a Chinese team play. I doubt that they could win, but with the Chinese scene so isolated, they could pull out some surprises. Either way, I am really impressed with how IPL is trying to promote SC2 globally and pulling the scenes together. Not many non-Chinese tournaments have made significant inroads into the Chinese scene, hopefully IPL will be one of the first.

No GG from Sleep? Slayersboxer would be disappoint
It says formerly of slayers so it looks like he left. So many roster changes recently I don't remember if he joined a foreign team.
Yeah, I know he already left, but I would think living in the same house as Slayers Boxer would rub off on players, such as his work ethic, manner and overall the way he conducts himself. But I could see why Sleep would be angry though, playing almost 3 hours of games for nothing.

Seriously.......a caster that not only outright denies all other casters, but is the effective counter for every zerg T3 unit............but OMG NERF THE INFESTOR/ HT!!!. I wish people would just let the game develop on its own. -_-
Did hero do a really good job with dt and zealot harrass to prevent extra bases, or did thorzain just not expand? I don't understand, he had 2 extra orbitals at his gold that he never floated to another base. He didn't float his main or natural either.
HerO was just super patient and slowly wore down thorzain's army. His biggest advantage in long games is his patience and incredible multi tasking which most players struggle to keep up with. Hopefully with dreamhack under his belt, HerO will start dominating his opponents!
HerO just outplayed Thorzain there. He was incredibly patient and that showed in the results. I don't know about his decision to sacrifice the Nexus in game 2, but if he thought it was the best move I can't really go against it.
HerO just showed how you can deal with a good amount of ghosts using templar in game 1(although it might have worked so well just because of the map or Thorzain's impatience compared to HerO's). HerO is showing good results, lets see if he can keep it up :D

I think at that point, HerO was willing to play from behind. Engaging to save the nexus would result in either a quick loss or a huge advantage. Since he was already up in game 2, he just wanted to safely stay in the game.

I love how a unit that people often made fun of is suddenly OP with no changes to it. The emp nerf just requires you to get more than 2 ghosts to hit the same amount.

Uh, chargelots got changed, the charge didnt guarantee a hit before. Also protoss players understanding that Armor upgrades makes them immortal
Anyways, the problem is TvP (and ZvP) is more bad Protoss design than balance. Protoss matchups are just so boring to watch and play that I nearly miss the T/Z domination days :>

This is just kind of like the rise of the ghost. T's whined and bitched about infestors/broodlords for 2 months and got them nerfed, then suddenly realized that what all the "terrible" players had been saying all along, that ghosts were amazing, was 100% true...now Ts mass ghosts lategame and effectively counter an entire race's(Zerg) lategame options. And they bitched at warp in storms, and get that nerfed instantly, conveniently forgetting that ghosts also hard counter protoss' entire race, thanks to EMP. Sooner or later people will realize that spreading your templars/infestors/etc is actually required now, and burrowed infestors are actually really hard to locate and EMP, and suddenly they won't be OP any more.
Chargelots have been this good forever. "Non-pros" have been espousing chrono'ed double forge chargelots forever, but forum pros (and real pros, although I understand why it's harder for them to change builds) would rather bitch about marauders than try anything new, and then suddenly someone good actually puts a little effort into making it work, and suddenly upgraded chargelots are the new OPness. Same with warp prism/etc.
I swear Blizzard could just "buff" a unit, changing the visual value of a unit's attack/speed/armor/etc, without actually changing the effect, and the placebo effect would actually make the unit more popular, a pro would develop a build around it, and people would be crying about nerfing them within a month, just because people actually realize, wow, holy crap, 3/3/3 chargelots are basically unkillable!! THEY ALWAYS HAVE BEEN. People were just too busy whining about marauders as they went blink stalker/colossi every game to actually try anything different.

Well said.
I don't understand the hatred towards Blizzard. I mean no offense to whoever posts on this forum, I know you're very smart and probably handsome too, but you aren't a professional game designer. You have neither the experience nor the access to the statistics that Blizzard has to make huge nerfing decisions.Blizzard know what they're doing in most respects, and realise that there are avenues that we havent fully explored yet. They're the doting parent that lets us make our own mistakes to learn, and occasionally reduces EMP radius once in a while to stop us crying.
In the recent Protoss - Sad Zealot epidemic that swept the community throughout October/November, there were huge calls for Blizzard to look at GSL as a testament to how badly Protoss was designed. Blizzard calmly and correctly ignored it and pointed towards ladder statistics, which balanced well in favour of all three races. Its the snap decision patching and nerfing that can ruin a game. By developing our own solutions (Chargelots :D), we're making it a better game for everyone.

Calmly and correctly ignored it... by nerfing the radius of EMP by 44% and by reducing the Protoss upgrade research cost. Yeah. Right. What the hell are you on about, son.
EDIT: replaced time with cost. Dunno why I wrote time o_0

You mean the upgrade that to this day, noone ever gets?
And the ghost nerf was kind of a compromise to keep the whining down. Most Ts have enough ghosts for blanket EMPs anyways.

I don't know if we're talking about the same upgrades here. If you mean what I mean, which is the Protoss weapon/armour/shield upgrades, then you clearly do not watch a lot of high level PvT if you think nobody gets it...
