I agree. Stephano a very close 3rd. He just needs a little more results to move up. Even though winning IPL3 may eclipse all of DRG's results.

You guys don't have any basis to say that it's a myth. If you go to Korea to play in a pro-house, you will get better. Stephano is good, but if he trained in Korea maybe he'd be Code S level. Either way, Stephano winning IPL 3 in no way proves that training in Korea is unnecessary for closing the skill gap. Being the best foreigner doesn't make you as good as top Koreans. Its not like Stephano won the GSL, beating MVP or something.
I posted earlier about how impressed by Stephano I was, and I think he would be good in Code A and could make it through qualifiers. But you also can't make his win more than what it was.

Now that 2 foreigners have won two major events, Slasher needs to use the Mach20 because a regular shave just isn't enough.
|
His for sure Code S level and he did beat all these in IPL 3/Qualifiers: Anypro, MarineKing, Revival, Puzzle, MMA, Huk, Boxer, Violet, Inori, TheStC, Lucky
Thats 4 Code S and 3 Code A + more Koreans.

we will see at blizzard cup... steph top!

Can I still watch the finals somewhere? Unfortunatly, I missed them
|
let's see MLG Orlando when Stephano pit against super strong terrans
|
I'm not sure why people say DRG doesn't have many achievements, in that LG Special Tournament he took out: TaeJa YongHwa JYP sC
A code S terran, an Artosis-hyped Protoss hope, an up-and-coming Protoss which is rated amongst the best in the world, and a proven Code S semi-finalist with some of the best TvZ in the world.

I don't think we can say code S level yet, but he's going to MLG Orlando in the open bracket, so he should hit some code S level players in a LAN setting. MarineKing, Polt and aLive are all in the open bracket. Stephano lost to aLive in the group stage at IPL3 by the way.
edit:
3.Stephano 4.DRG
I would put Nestea, Losira, DRG, Curious, Leenock and Coca ahead of Stephano.

Dimaga, the only foreigner to take a game off Nestea and the first Zerg to do so, lost in the history books. No mention of Coca either, but that's okay 'cause he wasn't even in IPL3 and we don't care about people who weren't in this tournament, I'm guessing. Didn't Stephano get owned by... I think his name was Ret? Oh, right, nevermind - Lucky owned him. But hey, that's ZvZ for you, folks.

I won't even bother starting the whole "online doesn't really compare to LAN which is why players like Mvp/Nestea don't bother with it much" argument, but yeah, a LAN setting is actually important especially when you're at the top of the world. And I love how Inori is suddenly getting a lot of hype alongside his teammate Lucky - this being their first LAN tournament and the results they showed? Geez.

In a french interview, Stephano said he intentionally played stupidly vs aLive, it was more a way for him to test his full gling build and to somehow influence boxer who he was playing right after. It doesn't in any way mean he would have beaten aLive, it just means the only series he lost this week-end is the series he didn't play seriously.
Having followed Stephano for quite some time now, since he entered team Millenium last year, I felt there was something about his play, the same feeling I have when I watch a top world player. When he plays on ladder, it feels like 99% of his opponents are bronze or gold players. Only Mana & Dimaga seem to give him some hard time in EU lately (Even if Nerchio beat him 2 0 once, most of the games between those 2 the last months have been taken by Stephano), and to some extend defensive protoss who camp on 3 bases (SaSe for example), though he said he improved lately vs these kind of players. Let's notice the 2 players that gave him the hardest work are 2 protosses, with Inori being very very close to kick him out of the bracket.
Even if it's too soon to say if he is at the level of Nestea or MVP, he went through this tournament like Nestea or MVP would have, so it will be interesting to see how he performs in the next tournaments.
Anyway, big GG to Stephano, and good luck at MLG !

I agree that Stephano is really really good considering he just won IPL3. But seriously...? Top 3 zerg? Up there with Nestea and MVP? Stephano is so so overhyped just because he's a foreigner. What about Curious who just 4-0ed Oz in Code A final? What about Coca that knocked out DRG at MLG and gave Bomber a run for his money? Does this make him better than DRG or Losira? No. It's the same for Stephano. He just won an IPL3 with a bunch Koreans in it. That's quite an achievement. But if Lucky (who even had an arguably harder run to the final 3-0 MMA) won the final, would people hype him up as the top 3 zerg in the world? No.
You guys see the difference?
And we could not say Stephano is Code S material or not. He belongs to Code S if he actually qualifies for it either through Code A or MLG. He's not automatically code S just because he won IPL. He's not top 3 zerg just because you think he is. He just won an IPL3 with a bunch of Koreans and that's it. Let's not exaggerate things.

Dimaga is just too unstable. he plays like a god and takes nestea down and just goes away. So really hard to say where he is on the list. Coca yes he is a contender for the top 4 place but i think that Stephanos 1 place victory was more impressive than cocas 2 place MLG run. if you count the qualifier he had to go through. and Ret at his best is one of the best. But he is also very unstable. plays perfect one game and totally messes up the next game. But this kind of things are so subjective. And so hard. I think we can all agree on 1.Nestea and 2.losira. after that it becomes a lot harder. But i would say
1. Nestea 2. Losira 3. DRG 4. Stephano(very close 3) 5. Coca 6. Idra After that it i think it becomes just to close to call

I think its really hard to rank players in SC2 since there are so many tournaments but atm over all I would say that:
1. MVP 2. Nestea
Then you can smack in around 7 koreans in places 3-10 the order is very hard to pick since people beat each other left and right. The I would guess you have a group of like 50 people worldwide that you can place in spots 11-50 and I would say impossible to rank them without picking your favorite player etc etc.
Just happy the level of SC2 seems to get higher and more spread out.
