NOTE
I have Changed the map pools so that they are a bit opened!
Your vote: Which group of 3 maps do you want the most?
(Vote): Terminus RE, Crossfire SE, Tal Darim Altar (Vote): Terminus RE, Crossfire SE, ICCUP Testbug (Vote): Terminus RE, Tal Darim Altar, ICCUP Testbug (Vote): Crossfire SE, Tal Darim Altar, ICCUP Testbug
Safe to assume that Xel' Naga, Metalopolis and Shattered Temple will be in the map pool.
If you have another map that you think should be included (looking at 6 or 7 maps in the pool) eg. Shakuras (Blizz updated), Typhon Peaks, Backwater Gultch. let us know.
I will be up here again with the Calgary crew (and I will try to talk some more people in to coming along as well) for a better showing! Excellent job creating the new event so quickly, Shiro.
For map pools you should have at least 8 so you can avoid repetition in a series like we had last time, try the ladder minus the bad maps, and supplement with the good ICCUP/alt maps so:
EDIT: After much reconsideration GoFarMan's idea is better. I suggest for a 7/8th typhon peaks and the new Shakuras.

iCCup has found that a 7-map map pool works best. You also need to enforce a rule that the same map cannot be played twice in the same series.
...and I've yet to hear of ANYONE who likes slag pits or backwater gulch. don't include these.
another edit: are people actually picking crossfire over testbug t.t
Oops my bad, fixed...
Also I think an 8 map pool works better as it allows players to each thumbs down a map and still have choice in game 5 in a Bo5 for maps. But if ICCUP has had results...
Slag pits is okay, but yeah
It's okay I feel the same way I don't really like crossfire and really like testbug.

if you're using a thumbs-down system then that's probably better but for just loser picks then 7 seems to work well
slag pit's rush distance is like less than steppes lol

Hey don't bash steppes, I have had some really good three base games there. I kind of like how (and if) the macro dynamic that evolves on those kind of maps, but it's easier to achieve that on bigger maps.

Adding in more maps will not stop repitition, laglovah picked xelnaga twice because he knew the win statistics between me and him on it.. which is like 10-1 for him. i'm voting for terminus, crossfire, and testbug because prodig did a good job casting I also prefer testbug over taldarim anyday.

tal'darim is turning into such a terran freewin map because of that tank push outside the nat... i hope somebody can figure out how to break it (i know it murders me every time on the ladder ) consistently
personally i'd take xel'naga and metal out because they've been around since the beginning of time and are getting pretty boring, but that's just my opinion 8)
Ahhh noooo always the same place =( We need more gaming LANS in Edmonton.... I really don't think I'm making this one regardless of if I'm busy or not (most likely IB finals anyways) cause it's just so far away..... Btw Clonze won the one yesterday correct?

The only other lan center we have in edmonton is like Blueshift and they cant run sc2 on their pc's
Hey this looks good itd be my first time to a LAN. In all honesty keep Typhoon Peaks out of map pool Backwater Gulch is ok but not ideal i think iCCupTesbug or Shakuras would be the better choices
Darn it D: I'm out of the city in May. I'd like to see Testbug in the mappool though. MLG's shown us that some pretty awesome games can spawn on that map. PLUS. That map's so pretty :D

I hate how it takes a big event for people to see how awesome iCCup maps are! D:

It would be really cool if there was an Edmonton qualifier tournament, a Calgary qualifier tournament, and top 8 from each made it into a ro16 bracket bo3 double elimination tournament?
Because everyone would already know the results Edmonton 5-0 Calgary.
But in all seriousness that would be a great idea for the top 4/8 from each tournament and do an Alberta championships single or double elim top 16/8 champion ships. The turnouts for both tourneys would probably so much higher if they seeded the Alberta Regional Championship.
I think a good idea for regionals would be: Top 6 from Complete Finish and ProjectX are seeded away from each other in a 16 man bracket The day before we hold an open Regionals grinder 1v1 single/double elim (entry fee goes to regional prizes) the top four seats get the remaining seats in the regionals.
Then with the best 16 player in alberta we have a double or single elim tourney winner is the best player in alberta.
Gofarman and I had a good talk about over saturation of tourneys. Like what happened in Calgary, where there was too many tourneys so the base player population wouldn't show up and only the higher tier players would show because the lower tier or tourney base was fulfilled with about one tourney a month. But in Calgary TOs got over eager and flooded the scene with up to 3 a mo which caused the amount of players who would show up un reliable tourney to tourney which is REALLY bad for sponsors. So we agreed for now, no more than one a month.

That would be sick even if it was completely independent, I would for sure put up a stream for that.
Hell, I might even put some of my own money down for the winner. Clonze and kOre why don't you guys PM me and maybe we can setup something, even if it's only online.
Hm. I am actually going to call that one in favor of Edmonton. Sorry, but that is why I drive up there for the competitions... Their top 5 are pretty scary. Calgarys top 2 are moderately frightening. Like Paranormal Activity 2.

but then again I do agree with 1 month apart from each other for tournaments......
I don't think it would be that bad to have two tourneys a month..but you would almost need one to be sponsored to ensure a good turnout. Calgary vs edmonton would be closer than people think as well. Though whether I'm saying that to try and make more money or because I actually believe it is for you to decide

I would really like to see it happen, I am thinking of opening a thread about just such a thing. (Edmonoton vs Calgary) I just don't know much about the Calgary scene. For edmonton it would probably be, in no particular order: Clonze, Archaic, Visual, Laglovah, Sinatra As for Calgary I would need a list of players.
And if Shiro wants to sponsor it I would plug him on the stream like there's no tomorrow to try and build hype for your may tourney :D
EDIT: Also Shiro, is it Complete Finish or Complete Finis?
Yeah sorry actually I don't think I'll be going to this one. There's something else planned sc2-wise that's much closer to my house and I think I'll be going to that one instead =) Thanks anyways though, gl in hosting it!
We should TOTALLY have a Calgary vs. Edmonton GSLWC style! Shiro you should organize it for the summer :D It could be like, NASL finals PREGAMES or something!
I can almost guarantee that Fragapalooza will be having a SC2 tournament this year, so that may be a good venue to do a Calgary vs Edmonton team league.

I wouldn't discount tQJREX from that Edmonton list. He doesn't show to live events due to his university workload but he's a MONSTER zerg player. Also, by next month I should be back in shape
I would have to agree with Sunshine, If Calgary Played Edmonton, we would get stomped.
that is until summer rolls around and Sunshine, ever scared of the Real light outdoors, retires to his new basement and restarts his effort to conquer the starcraft world
hey guys, I was thinking that because there is a event going on at the U of A that day, and because it's a charity event, I thought we might change the date of this one, either a week earlier or later.

Not a bad idea, but make it 2 weeks forward or backwards you hack. Vacation time is precious zzz

If your going to change the date do it asap, cause if I have to reschedule stuff because you didn't post to that effect my face will be displeased.

You should change the name of it too...
Speaking of name changes... Are you even on VT?!?
But seriously, I am down if the date changes. Just lemme know when to be there.

Yeah... some day blizzard will let me fix that. + Show Spoiler +
... I just found out I work May7/8 (2-6 I could stilll cast the finals and stuff) . So if you are moving the date for charity you should proobably come out with the date pretty soon, for the benifit of all of us
I just wanted to BUMP this thread to ensure that people know the date HAS CHANGED TO THE 21st
Also, you should get a mod to change the title of the thread to that effect rather then just may tournament it should be may 21st tournament so that there is no confusion.

So it was brought to my attention today that we don't ahve the coaching offered as a prize for the players who finish lower! Shiro, you should update saying something like that. I just finished my coaching with the last guy who won my services and he seems to be pretty satisfied with it!

Yeah, I won his coaching and it helped out my PvZ a ton! I definitely recommend coming out even if you don't think you have a chance to win the tournament, you still have a good chance to win the coaching in the round robin after! It helped me up my game quite a bit, I'll be at this tournament for sure.
TBH I never knew of the coaching until i was told a mini tournament was being held for a chance to be coached I have no problem placing a note about it, We can fallow suit with it.
This tournament usually has 25 - 30 people but has had as high as 50 or so I believe. You can see previous tournaments at www.edmontongamers.com in the tournament results section.
