It's hilarious that Incontrol has a top 6 spot locked up by beating Slush, Mihai and an absolutely-terrible-playing-TLO. Also Painuser, but fair point, the number 1 seed from the open going into the hardest group was an interesting choice. He lost to Painuser as far as I'm aware, so I didn't mention him. And I could see that reasoning about the group being "easier" if there wasn't such a massive advantage in getting first place in group play. Clearly the easiest group to get first place in would be the #4/5 seed group.

This isn't a Samurai Battle? WTF! oh shit MLG did a great job today dealing with the issues that were largely out of their control No they didn't. They didn't acknowledge anything being their fault for the first several hours. They were just blaming everyone else, but themselves for their problems. It took them close to 6 hours to just own up to their own mistakes and get their shit fixed. Not only that, but SunDance embarrassed himself and MLG on the forum for letting trolls get to him. ive said this before but seriously think about how much internet is being used at any given time during this event? between the streams with hundreds huuundreds of thousands of viewers and all the games playing online and the thooousaaands of people at the place using wifi and whatnot how can you really blame them for lag. seriously just think about it for 5 seconds.... So you're take is that there are a lot of people using the connection, so it's not possible to set up a network to handle it? Gosh, I guess we should all just pack it up and forget about holding events... So you realize all these people will be using bandwidth. MLG should be doing the same thing. If you can sense the scale of the bandwidth needed for the event by turning the gears in your head for a mere 5 seconds, they can too. They have people who's job it is to consider these same things, and others to put infrastructure in place to handle it. If someone throws a party where they expect 2,000 people, and they rent a 10' x 10' room to throw it in, would you excuse them by saying, "Well, it's really not their fault. I mean, there's so many people!" And if they didn't expect 2,000 people, they obviously made a mistake in estimating their audience, which is still something they're responsible for. In the end it really doesn't matter if the problem was on the ISP's end or within MLG's network. MLG is responsible for providing a venue capable of hosting the event. That's their job. That's what they get paid for. They messed up. Hopefully they will learn from that and improve, but as many people have pointed out, it's hard to believe that will happen when each event seems to have more problems than the one before it, to the point where this one was an unmitigated disaster.

Just sum up all the seeds and you see. It's 34 for every group.

Or how did the tiebreaker work?

Hindsight is always 20:20. Applaud yourselves for being so smartass and condescending toward the organizers of an event that's trying to embrace the game you all love. </3 TL

In the end it really doesn't matter if the problem was on the ISP's end or within MLG's network. I definitely sympathize that MLG of course was trying to make this event run as smoothly as possible, and that a lot of the stuff going on behind the scenes might make us realize that it wasn't necessarily their fault. That being said, they charge a good deal of money and have attracted a lot of sponsors in order to put on a first-class event-- and in that, they fell significantly short. Period. This really reflects negatively on e-sports in North America. I'm sure I'm not the only one that is totally unwilling to pay for a $25 NASL pass until we've seen what kind of product they are offering, given the disaster of this weekend. I'm excited that NASL will be pre-recorded and that they've partnered with Justin.tv, precisely because that shows some of the foresight that MLG clearly hasn't embraced. How delighted is Dr. Pepper or Stride to see this kind of amateur execution? I really think MLG has let the community down in this regard, and set e-Sports back a little bit with regard to being taken seriously. Hopefully Sunday goes smoothly and future MLG events go better... but that starts with them acknowledging the problems for this weekend and fixing them It's not just forum rage; they really dropped the ball and need to acknowledge that in going forward.
