compLexity Gaming is proud to announce its newest initiative in the StarCraft 2 community, The V! The best test of skill in SC2 is of course the 1 v 1, and we're going to showcase it every week with a best of 7 series between two invited players. The winner will receive $100, and the loser will just have to hang his head in shame as he types "gg." Whoever wins The V will be expected to play the very next week at the same time, Friday at 7 p.m. EST!
Cast by AskJoshy and potentially a compLexity Staff or Player co-caster. Stream can be seen on the front page of compLexityGaming.com
Format: Best of 7 series, first map will be played on Xel'Naga Caverns. Loser of each map will choose the next map from the Battle.net 1v1 ladder map pool. There will be no map vetoes. Maps may not be repeated. In the event of a disconnect, the game replay will be reviewed by a player panel to determine if a re-game is necessary. If one player disconnects three times in a single night, he will forfeit the series and the non-disconnecting player will be asked back to the next V.
Prizes: The winner of the best of 7 series will receive $100 via Paypal and be invited to play again the following week. The loser will receive nothing. Stream viewers will have a chance to win a brand new Sound Blaster Tactic headset, so keep watching every week!
So come join us for the second ever "The V" and see if Liquid`Tyler can defend his Week 1 title against our newest challenger, FXOSheth! Vote below for who you think will win!
Can't wait to see this! I'll gain a lot from watching LiquidTyler's PvZ
Glad its a bo7 as well, I really like that its a longer series because you get to see all the different builds they use. Looking forward to some interesting games.

Neighboring countries better be very diligent about checking for cannons in their economic centers.
I thought he's a Terran player lol
He plays both T and P. His ladder race icon has switched back and forth several times over the past few months. That would actually make for a more interesting showmatch imo, him playing half his games as T and the other half as P.

I'm 100% serious. No one is claiming that he's the next Jinro or Idra but he's still a solid player. Yes he does cheese almost every game on ladder but his follow-ups and late game management are strong and creative as well.
Think about this: every top 200 player has played him multiple times, and they go into every game with him knowing that he will cheese. Yet they still lose (or at least a good amount, enough to keep him consistently top 10 on the global ladder).
You can call him a newb, a cheeser, a no-skill mass ladder gamer who can only rely on abusive strategies to win, but he does do stuff that no one else does, and still managees to win. How would he fare outside ladder play? A showmatch with a well-known top gamer would be perfect to see just how good he is, not to mention that the games would definitely be highly entertaining.
Unfortunately I have no idea how you would go about contacting him :D

I whole heartedly agree with what you saying about goign into a match KNOWING hes goign to cheese and still not being able to stop it. He plays alot of mind-fuck games with you and his play is pretty smart (cheesy or not).

it's not that he isn't a skilled player, i simply wouldn't recommend him because its a "showmatch" and him cannon-rushing or an equivalent cheese wouldn't be quite the show that the viewers would want it would seem

Maybe I'm not your average viewer, but I would watch Tyler vs Piqliq anyday over Tyler vs Sheth or Tyler vs [some other top class foreigner].
A showmatch is a great opportunity to get a match that normally wouldn't happen - in this case I believe it's perfect, since Piqliq is a player who only ladders and never participates in tournaments, while Tyler doesn't ladder but has performed decently in many major tournaments. Along the same lines, another player I'd love to see get invited is Katari.
Also, Piqliq is far from a one-trick pony who only knows how to cannon rush. Like I've said before, his late-game management is strong, and he plays terran as well (and I've never been bunker rushed by him, at least in TvP :p)
It would be a little silly to base an entire BO7 around wanting to see Nony crush Piqliq's cheese. Not only would it be over quickly, but it would get boring after the first game or two. Nony v. Drewbie was an awesome set of games full of finely tuned, perfectly executed 1 and 2 base timing attacks. I expect Nony v. Sheth will yield another set of excellent replays. Keep pitting Nony against high level players please!

I guess in terms of viewership high level play is irrelevant, only high level names matter. Sigh... I can only dream :p
I would also like to see Piqliq. At first, you think hes just some idiot cheeser, but his builds are actually brilliant and he can macro very well if you get to mid-late game.

Before reading this thread, I had no idea how he plays. People regularly play at different times so large groups of players haven't played other large groups of players.
For the people who do regularly play him, the goal isn't always to win but rather to learn new things about SC2. If you already know a certain way to beat a certain style of play, it isn't always the most helpful use of time to add one more trial. It's probably better to try something new and know multiple ways to deal with something so that you can choose the best based on nuances of the particular situation.
And if you don't know a good way to beat your opponent's style, but you know a bad way to beat it, and by a bad way I mean a way that you know loses to some other style, then it's a waste of time to do the bad way and get a win. You've got to find a way to compromise the two ways to play so that you cover both possibilities. And you're more likely to discover a good way to play by starting from a point that is likely to lose in this particular game and trying to stretch it and adapt it so that it doesn't lose. Starting with the way you know will win and making some small adjustments for a phantom opponent, then grabbing a win against what you were expecting, is not a complete waste of time. It provides some useful info but it's not as effective at getting a solution.
Don't underestimate Sheth, he has been ripping through people lately (as well as having the best stream), this is going to be an insanely good match up. I think it would be so cool if they both did a FPVOD while playing to see what's going through their minds. Can't wait!
Oh and really good trailer, this is definatly becoming one of my favorite SC2 events to watch after last week. Hoping for a good one today too.
I believe the UStream API is having issues tonight. Additionally, some users are experiencing lag while the majority are getting a perfect stream. It's UStream right now.
*insert comment saying never 4gate in a best of 7*, hes doing what he needs to do to win im pretty sure sheth doesnt cry about 4gates. Anyway on topic sheths looking like hes gona take this tylers been sloppy.
Enjoying the show ATM, but my one piece of feedback is that if the series goes to 3-3 that means the final game is played on either Steppes of War or Blistering Sands, which is AWFUL.
Really suggest a change in the maps for next week.
wow this is turning into a pretty sick series. Tyler pulling out the 36 probe all in... Mmm I like it ^^ Edit: Now he's cutting probes again with the stargate up..
Whoa that was sick by Tyler. Showing Sheth the phoenixes and hiding his colossi. Or it was just a
just a ?
i think it was definitely trying to fake him into hydras/agression, not sure how much it worked, but he won either way!
It seemed to work great. Sheth instantly made a hydra den when his Ovie was killed by stalkers and a few pheonix. It looked exactly like a pheonix build.
But then of course when the pheonix didn't harass Sheth soon realised it was a fake and he didn't make any hydras.
Can I get a summary of all of Tyler's bm? You know generally in these kinds of threads people report what's going on in the games rather than just react to it, leaving people who can't watch the stream confused and angry.

He peaced out at the end of game 3 and that's about it; basically left Sheth to building elim him. The rest was just being cute.
sry i had to get up several times in first few games. nothing i could do about it. and the graphics are so unintuitive. doesnt look like lings fit and they just run through. whatever

Well in the game on LT, Tyler got up to take care of something presumably and only had 2 pylons on map without gg'ing. He came back after a few minutes and gg'ed, without much of an explanation as to why he went afk.

so, you have no access to water and you drink alcohol? you play rts at a high level? i sense contradiction anyways... tyler is an amazing player. He knows this isn't his top performance

Why did you have to keep getting up?
I know what you mean about the graphics. It was easier to tell in BW, but like with everything there's good points and bad.
The VODs are uploading now on YouTube, I'll post again when they're all up. =) And a 30-minute interview with the winner is up as well: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/12311224

He waited a long time to gg even when the game was obviously over (and I do mean obviously over). Essentially he went afk ... never bothered to say emergency or brb or anything at all.

now that tyler lost and that sheth is awesome, what do you have to say for your defense ?
