The correct way to handle it is to have good bunker placement imo.

What song was that just playing?

Honestly, I doubt that 95% of the people posting comments about Rain's play have any clue what is going on in his head.
I wouldn't be surprised if Rain encountered this exact type of proxy many times and successfully defended it with the gas+tech lab build he did. It is very plausible that he has encountered something like 8 pylon 9 gateway, defended it best with the gas+tech lab, and decided to do this. However, as was mentioned earlier in the thread, MC went 7 pylon 8 gateway, which could potentially turn a good response by Rain into a disaster. Pretty weird timing. I'd be surprised if any of you have ever played against that before, or even thought that could be a good idea.
Basically, you can say "getting gas is a bad response" all you want, but unless you've actually tested various builds against top level players you're basically just making random ass guesses.

Don't listen to noobs saying to attack the pylon/gates with your workers, tasteless and artosis know what they're talking about.
What you suggest might work, but it's still very difficult when Protoss is producing Zealots at the same rate that you are producing marines, I don't know if you're actually playing the game or just watch a lot and blindly accept everything that Tasteless and Artosis say as the undeniable truth.
I for one have faced proxy gate cheese on SoW multiple times in ladder, though maybe not this particular one that MC was doing, and each and everytime I defended it comfortably by sending 3-4 SCVs to kill of the pylon. Believe me or not, it does work.

Yeah, this is dumb. Tasteless and Artosis are obviously so tired of hearing dumb people that they actually took a full minute going out of their way to explain to you that attacking buildings with scvs is not a good idea but I come to this thread and half the posts are saying he should have attacked with his SCVs. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

I spent many hours perfecting countering this nearer the release of the game. It works. Also, you should 2rax marine instead of getting gas.

Only thing Rain really fucked up was bunker placement which cost him the game. You do actually need to get a marauder out especially vs a player with MC's micro. He will inevitably follow up with a stalker which can outmicro marines or shoot SCV from outside bunker range. You gotte get that rauder out to deal with it

I'm pretty sure he wasn't thinking that the one gate would win him the game. He prolly just wanted to get an advantage and had a transition planned.

What I'm entertained by is the cries to pull SCVs. The commentary just explained why this isn't possible, and the numbers back it up. If SCVs are pulled, Terran loses economy, and Protoss is already good for macro without Terran having to deal with the cheese. And at this level, Protoss isn't just whelping the cheese if he cancels the gate/looses the cheese at that point because it is a net gain for toss and Terran will MOST LIKELY eventually lose.

judging by the comments the english stream obs'ing must be pretty bad, everyone is asking why he didn't send an scv to the pylon, but they should that on the korean stream and then mc brought a probe to kill the scv

NOPE, Maynard Gate. If you don't get the reference, don't bother. Its not worth your time to look it up. But it is definitely a Maynard gate.

I agree with the others saying MC's cheese is just as bad as Rain's cheese earlier. The only difference I see is that MC mixes in all-in builds with macro games. Just looking at the one game a marine/scv all-in is just as cheesy as proxy gate. Rain does the same thing vs toss, mixing up his builds. He probably just isn't as confident with non-cheese builds against zerg; which makes sense since most zerg players are confident against any non-cheese terran build
I'm also curious about how Rain could have actually stopped it. 6 range from a bunker isn't enough to cover everything (although putting it in the mineral line would have been a bit better coverage), and regenerating shields means you can back out of bunker range repeatedly. Against MC's micro it seem really hard to stop in time unless you preemptively make an early depot/rax
My thoughts are maybe use scvs earlier to block/stall the gateway drop (2-3 might have worked?), and maybe micro or use auto-repair to keep scvs topped off

these games are pretty bad :/ honestly props to jinro for being one of the few players delivering entertaining games this season. Im kinda worried with the direction the game is headed atm, it seems the games get shorter on average from season to season. Jinro was a noteable exception to that trend and we know what happened to him against MC...
