Ret was far to greedy. he knew there was no expansion and only made 2 spine instead of 3-4. He got a spire instead of bangling speed which would have won him that game. He sent in groups of 4-6 zerglings instead of grouping them up and attacking with 40 or so.
And none of those games involved any cheese whatsoever. All ins =/= cheese they = all-ins. the 40 magically appearing zerglings..........

(G) how to succeed in sc2 ? 1. Pick T 2. learn 5, 1-2base all ins, go win GSL Protip: last two winners of GSL were both Zerg. On Topic: Sad to see Ret go out, but I couldn't fault TheBest's play, it was relentless and brutal. Protip: last two seasons, zergs were able to downvote maps. Ret was clearly outplayed in the last two games. TheBest had strong harass, forcing Ret out of his usual (and beastly) macro style. What won TheBest the last game wasn't the map, it was co-ordinated harass with the hellions, sniping the queen and getting that viking to take out the overlords. Saying that the maps were the main reason for the losses is a cop-out, and frankly, insulting to both players. A zerg being "outplayed" on steppes of war. You must be joking. If you have a point, make it. If not, you can continue to make these inane comments like the above. By outplayed, I mean TheBest played better than Ret. I hope that was easy enough to understand. Lack of baneling speed, fast hatch, missed transfuse, etc. Keep using the maps as your crutch, it seems to be working well.
I didn't say anything bad about his play. I said steppes was a bullshit map for zerg. That point is not up for debate, as any decent player will tell you. Are you arguing against a more balanced map pool?

1. Only 2 spines? Really? You build 4 or 5 spines at the ent (especially after scouting the all-in) and ret wins straight up no questions asked. Even with the backdoor he would know about it and have time to respond and get more units.
5 Spines equals -5 larvae -750 Minerals and mining power.
Take a guess what Terran than does?
A) constantly switches between backdoor and main entrance essentially cutting the Spine Count in half or B) just drops all units in the main (1medivac is enough for that) and wins as you have no units.

nearly cried out loud after rets last game in GSL 3

Nope, and you're not alone on that one.

Agreed. Apparently everyone had poop in their cheerios this morning because everyone has been in a foul mood since Game 1, lol. "He brought 3 SCVs! Wow, all-in more ..this is boring!". "Tech switch to double port banshees off 1 base? Oh cool ..a Terran using cheese!". People complain about these strats getting 'old' when the only thing getting old is the whining.

He microed against the lings ane banelings pretty well. Dunno if you were even watching. It's the small maps that don't give the defender enough advantage.

Well, good spot to "not" get ledge-dropped on the other hand - I prefer close air on LT tbh, because defending the ledge before colossi is stupidly hard.

I'm not gonna blame Jungle Basin for ret losing the third game, but damn straight I'll blame Steppes and the lack of a veto system for him losing the series. I just can't fathom why GOM got rid of the veto system. Protip: If you want more map variety, introduce more maps.

the map can be one of the reasons why one player outplays another player. just saying he got outplayed and the map didn't do anything doesn't make sense.

Well I am quite certain Ret will be back in the next GSL, if he starts playing a bit more safe in the start and don't go into extreme macro then he should do way better.
Just look at IdrA's play from the first GSL compared to the later ones. I thought his play in the first one was extremely risky at times but he seems to have learned from that and plays safer now, thus getting better results.
PS. Rets play in game one was just scary, once that guy gets started it is just wild to watch him. Perfect drone control during the first hellion attack and that insane creep spread... He is really, really good.

I am a sad little zergling right now :-(
Cheering for HongUn now, hoping for some Protoss colouring up this tournament.

True.
Still not a reason to stop hating the shitty maps and in many ways broken metagame.

this as much as i don't want to dislike him, i have to agree. what a cocky shit. As opposed to NewDawn who snapped a rubber chicken's neck after beating ITR? You're saying that as if only one of them can be cocky. They're both cocky, there, happy?

He had sick multitask lol. Ret definitely had less to do than the terran player trying to defend that.

Calling every single early attack or push all-in and/or cheese is really getting out of hand. The terms have almost completely lost all meaning.

I think that JSL will win... I'm sad by the lack of toss in GSL3 but I don't really like HongUn's style

All the crying nerds should get it into their thick skull once and for all. Terran does NOT play like zerg. You do not need to expand expand expand and then try to win late game. In fact, it's counterintuitive. Terran has mules, which makes 1 base + strong timing pushes probably the best option to win - especially against a race with insane late game but rather weak and exposed early game. Stop blaming or hating terrans for taking advantage of their racial strengths.
