Im still stumped by so many T6 players using controllers. I see myself as pretty good and have done half good in some tournaments... but playing without stick/arcadepad, damn thats a pretty big handicap imo. But still, there are some pretty good turtlers in the tournament with controllers... not top notch players, but still very good, and I am impressed by that.
Not many surprising characters in the top tiers though. Would have loved some aggressive Asukas or such.

If you missed any part of the tournament, I have a liveblog that I've been keeping from the beginning here. I've been updating every 2-5 minutes mostly, so there's a lot you can catch just by glancing through.

/facepalm I forgot that's how MLG does thing.

It's just a bit strange because there doesn't seem to be a contingency for when the finalists haven't faced each other yet.

It's 2 best of 3's then.
edit for clarity: The winner's bracket winner comes in with a 1 set advantage, needing only 1 more set win to take the W, whereas the loser's bracket finalist needs to win 2 series.

Double elimination system is great imo.. It really allows for a "second chance"... It's especially important for these tournaments that are randomly seeded. Like the team mates who had to play first round etc, just bad luck in pairings...yeah you might be in loser bracket but, you still have a chance to prove you deserve to be in the championship game.
Double elimination is not hard to understand at all.. in the championship match, if it's a rematch, you continue your first series with the same score(In Halo it becomes a best of 11 from a best of 5), so I assume it will become a best of 7 from a best of 3.
If you haven't played before you play 2 series, and the winners bracket only needs to win one, this makes perfect sense.. winner can't just lose the first series then go home.. everyone get's one series loss according to the rules.
I also like it, cause I've gone pretty far in the losers bracket in MLG after being knocked down 1st rd, so without it, I would have gone home friday at at least 2 tournaments, what's the fun in that :D

This bo7 is a SPECIAL SITUATION that occurs only when the players in the final have faced each other before.

^ winner bracket finalist would then have a 2:0 if they havent faced each other.

Yes... there is. If they haven't faced each other, they do 2 Bo3s, like normal. Guys, this is in the rules when you sign up and it's on the website as well as being explained tons in this thread.

No he wouldn't. It would be 2 Bo3s back to back.

yes he would, mlg runs extended series on everything, this isn't a special circumstance

Making the winner of loser's bracket win two series makes way more sense and is how every other double elimination format in the world does it, but it's MLG's tournament so I guess they can do whatever they want.

So much mis-information from people that just have a feeling they know the right answer. Take a second before you post and consider do you REALLY know what the hell your talking about.

You'd lose, but you know you can go way farther than first round. Double elimination makes every player fit or fall where they need to a lot better.

"-If two players cannot be swapped, then either a second set is played or a continuation set will occur. If a continuation set occurs, then the number of matches won from the previous set (Winners Bracket) carries over. If player X won 2-1 against player Y in the Winners Bracket, then player X must win two more matches in the Losers Bracket against this same player, for a total of four matches to secure his victory. Player Y must win three more matches to accomplish the same task.
The final remaining player in the Winners Bracket must wait for the final remaining player in the Losers Bracket. The player in the Loser’s Bracket must defeat the player in the Winners Bracket in two sets, assuming there is no continuation rule. The player in the Winners Bracket must only defeat the player in the Losers Bracket in one set."

Come on guys. Seriously. Stop.
If the winner has already played the loser, it is a Bo7. If the winner has not played the loser, it is 2 Bo3s.
