Gom's Intel Classic format if you need an example. Worked really well and each final the best player won so the best should still be at the end giving you the best possible final. Already being handicapped in the final game is a huge mental block and definitely not good. While your first point is valid, the second point isn't. How is he handicapped? Going by single elimination, he shouldn't even be here. He lost already to HuK.

Already being handicapped in the final game is a huge mental block and definitely not good. I'm no stranger to competing at various gaming events and double elimination was always the best way. It's 2 fold: 1, in an open tournament w/o round robin prior the the seeding it allows players who showed up to actually get in a couple of matches as opposed to possibly just 1. And more importantly, it means that if you have a bad game, a distraction, a completely fluke accident you've never done before, then you have a chance to fight on.

As someone who's played in dozens of these double elim tourneys, I don't at all get why you wouldn't just have the grand finals be 2 bo3 sets, with the player coming from winner's only needing 1 set to win. Oh well, should be a fun grand final either way I blame korea for running single elim tourneys =P

He'd be down a game... in the final game. There is hardly a difference. At least this way it's a Bo7.

Already being handicapped in the final game is a huge mental block and definitely not good. Format works fine. Idiots just can't understand how it's fair to all the players. The thing I mostly have a problem with is that if you've played before, you'll be behind in the BoX. I think that it should be the same for everyone, who you played before should be in the past and I think that 2 straight Bo3's would be a lot more fair. It's actually how I switched the format back when we did SSBM tournaments using MLG ruleset. This is the only thing I had problems with, I don't think that the past games vs that player should count like this.

On August 29 2010 05:37 Trumpet wrote: Way to go MLG making something simple (double elim tourney) incredibly confusing and hard to understand. "The championship finals of a double elimination tournament is usually set up to be a possible two games. The rationale is that since the tournament is indeed double elimination, it is unfair to have the Winners' Bracket champion eliminated with its first loss. Therefore, while the Winners' Bracket champion needs to beat the Losers' Bracket champion only once to win the tournament, the Losers' Bracket champion must beat the Winners' Bracket champion twice. In some tournaments, however, the final game is always winner-take-all, or always a best-of-three set of games, with the usual advantage of the last Winner's Bracket team ignored." Replace games with best of three and best of three with best of seven and you have the SC2 MLG version of double elimination. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-elimination_tournament

Straight from MLG (right next to the video) KiWiKaKi takes the win on Delta Quadrant with great use of Stalkers to take the series 2-0. He will be going on to face HuK in the Grand Finals in a continuation of their Upper Final match. HuK will keep his 2-1 lead as they play out a best-of-seven for the title. I'm not sure how this is confusing so many people
