how ridiculous can some people honestly be? How can you seriously expect an INVITE tournament for a QUALIFIER to the nationals. For a game that will be 1 WEEK OLD when the registration starts.
You make sc2 sound like its already an established scene.
32 too small?? Prove it by selling out. Think your royal butt is worthy of a ticket to the nationals? Prove it by kicking buttt. Its not like you wont find new talent. Afaik huk was not a superstar in bw but hes big now?

I'll never forgive MLG for taking over gotfrag and turning it to complete crap. At least starcraft 2 is getting a lot of exposure.

MLG should leave the qualifiers to TL.
This community can pull a lot :-D
|
^ MLG will not do online qualifiers because that beats the point of having the players go to the event and play there. "O I don't stand a chance online, I sure in hell ain't paying to go to no event and wasting my money". If you want to play, you have to go. They do the same for Tekken, Halo and Brawl. WoW is different because the scene is rather unstable, not a lot of top teams and it varies with patch.

I've noticed with the spectator stream that the halo and gears of war live streams were all free and great quality. For world of warcraft, you were given a low quality free live stream and an option to pay 10 dollars for the whole weekend and receive a special high definition live stream that included a rewind feature. Not sure what MLG will do with sc2.
Also, there are like 5-6 events during each season and raleigh is just one of the events. I'm pretty sure it's the players with the best scores over all the events that will qualify for the national championship. You can't just show up to raleigh, dominate, and then never go to another event and hope to qualify for the end game.
I think that's how it works, not exactly sure.

WOW they want to charge you to watch? Its FREE in korea, The home of SC progaming ;/ I really don't think they should be charging to watch.
|
^ Yup. You accumulate a certain amount of points based on your standing throughout all the events you go and I'm not sure but I think top8 or top16 goes to the national championship at the end of the season.
And the HD stream is optional and for all the streamed games.

I think this format is not ideal for a game like Starcraft, but it can work. This format is perfect for Halo because in my 6 years of following the competitive Halo scene, there has never been 32 teams that could possibly challenge for 1st place. As mentioned, StK/3D/FB have always dominated and there's only a handful of teams who ever beat them. So all the teams who had a chance of winning always got a pass in the end.
Starcraft is a little more...hardcore than Halo, so there are 100s of players who could win this MLG event, 32 is certainly not enough to give everyone a chance. I can see why MLG is limiting it to 32, they probably don't have any idea how competitive the highest level of SC2 is right now - there certainly needs to be more slots to accommodate a feasible number of people. So they'll have to tweak their system for it to work with Starcraft, but knowing MLG, I'm sure they will.
But if the spots are first come first serve open registration and all... wouldn't that just mean a few good players get propped up by stomping random noobs all day?
Because apparently there are some players who go undefeated. Sounds extremely one sided. Utter dominance? Or roflstomping?

People pay much more to watch a basketball game. How badly does the community want this? Speak with your wallets.

Someone answered this above, but also remember that we're not a COUNTRY that is running esports as a national past time. We are a very small company that started out with 2 knuckle heads in a NYC apartment that liked to play each other in Madden and Halo 1.
With that being said, yes we have a free non HD stream.

Also, the HD upgrade is $10, not $20 or $25.

Spectator passes for the live event ARE $25. That gets you into the event for 3 days. What do you get as a spectator? We have give aways in all of our sponsor booths, free play opportunities in the console sections, spectator arcades with prizes, free Dr. Pepper & Hot Pockets ( ), and of course scheduled live competition across multiple titles (Halo 3, WoW, SC2, Tekken, Smash).
