Qwyn United States2779 Posts January 27 2014 08:14 GMT #21 Honestly, I contemplated something like this - some complicated system of rebinding F-keys to ASDF/ZXCV, but in the end I just manned up and learned to reach F1-F6, and I"m all the better for it. Whatever your reason, I personally don't think it's very worth it since there's bound to be some complications and having natural F1-F6 IMO just makes more sense anyhow. From someone who learned how to use F-keys the old fashioned way. And as for control groups - learning how to pivot your hand properly does wonders to solving the "oh my, it's too far" problem .

I'm teran player, F2 factory, f3 starport, f4 is an additional hotkey I rarely use, mostly for a harrass dropship o a lone banshee, then I use f5, f6,(7,8,9,0) for cameras. I also use the §/° key (left next to 1) as a hotkey, mostly for depots and later main rally point in game. But basically the most army keys I use are 1,2,3, 4 rax, 5 cc, 6 factories, 7 starport. I use space key for all army on my thumb for quick access, and two mouse thumb keys for base camera and switch to alert. The last other hotkey changes I use are the </\ (left next to the z/y?) to land and raise buildings. Only problem is this hotkey setup won't work for fast injects. I'd suggest zergs put § as base camera.

Ovi 164 Posts January 27 2014 11:01 GMT #23 You can change this in sc2 options, it is not different from changing any other hotkey. I myself have 4, 5, 6 and 7 for my 4 locations. I set them by pressing f2 f3 f4 and f5. And f1 is for "Center vision", so that i can select a hatch, click f1 + f4 for example. Control groups that are lost i have set on for example the key right let of the "1" key and on "q".

Traz Netherlands23 Posts January 27 2014 13:18 GMT #24 I have attempted something similar, since I had some problems to cover the whole keyboard due to a reduced function of 2 fingers in my left had. I have tried to keep having to use modifier keys to a minimum for the same reason. As a result, I use 1-4 and q-r as control groups. Additionally I use caps and tab as 2 control groups (Hatches and queens or nexi and MSC). Spell casting and building functions have been rebound to the lower 2 lines of the keyboard in a grid like fashion, where as unit control mostly is the same as the default. Ctrl and shift are the only modifier keys I use for creating and adding to groups, and Alt as base cam. F1-F5 in use as cam positions. I know this is might not be ideal in a normal situation, I just had to come to a solution where I only need to use 3 fingers on the keyboard.

shid0x Korea (South)5014 Posts January 27 2014 13:48 GMT #25 Crazy binder present. 1 to 4 = group 1 to 4 Mouse button 1 = Group 5 ² = Group 6 F1 = Group 7 F2 = Group 8 F3 = Group 9 I'm currently in masters league so i guess using weird hotkeys will not really affect you skill level as long as you understand them yourself. I personally believe you should just use whatever hotkeys you feel comfortable with and not trying to emulate such method as ''the staircase''. regarding the finger distance between F1/2/3 and the rest of the keyboard its not really a big deal if you are a male because your hands are usually quite big and you can push F1/2/3 with your index and middle finger while pushing another key such as ''q" with your thumb.or if you don't like it just move your fingers really fast. I suggest you to use F1/2/3 for things such as drops/runbys.
