Thanks in advance! Did you check out the guide on the first page under general? I didn't notice it until the other day, very informative.

I don't think I see it. Checked SC2 General, and the only guide I saw was the matchmaking guide. Mind if I ask what the title of thread is?

I feel stupid now, thanks for pointing that out.

Hey guys, right now perfecly played Mech versus Zerg is as good/better than perfectly played Bio?
|
Why are most terrans favoring rine/mine over rine/tank nowadays? I just returned after not playing for a while, and barely playing any HOTS, and it just really surprises me seeing so few terrans using tanks except in TvT.
|
There are too many variations of mech for a definitive "perfectly played game". Proleage just had a goody-esk style mech game where the terran turtled half the map and literally defended until zerg used up every last bit of gas. Once that style gets to a certain stage, it looks unbeatable. From what I've seen from certain streamers, if you can play the ultra long terran turtle you can have an unusually high winrate vs zerg. I heard Goody's win rate was stupid high, as well as players like Dzerzhinsky. Strelok plays a more fast pasted agressive mech that seems more stable, but no better or worse than really good bio. Mvp even busted out some mech tank hellbat timings that reminded me of his last couple of mech games in wol. Maru might have the most familiar and "standard" mech play. Seems as good as bio, but still has all the same vulnerabilities as any mech play: roach drops, viper timings ect...
|
I see... Thank you Doc ! And by the way... Does Strelok generally plays this fast paced mech? Or it was just an specific match? I like Bio it's just that sometimes it's too intense and sometimes i'm not in the mood to be sooooooooo tense playing. But i think some mech styles takes a lot of time. I think that 20 to 27 minutes it's an OK time for a match, of course some will take longer others will end up finishing fast. The thing is that in the majority of the games i see TvZ mech it takes 30 to 40 minutes plus games...
Sorry for my bad english, and thanks again !

@ Heyjude
Mines perform the function of tanks, a cost efficient source of splash damage, better then tanks can in TvZ. Tanks are slow, vulnerable and expensive. Mines are cheap, can attack mutas and don't need to do much to be worthwhile. So we use mines in tvz
We don't use tanks in tvp because they don't do enough damage and there's no early-mid game timings anymore thanks to Photon overcharge.
We use tanks all the time in tvt since they still kill terran units pretty damn well.
noSec Possibly but most terrans still use bio mine. 'perfectly' is sort of an awkward term since anything done perfectly should hypothetically win games

Yeah TvZ was more or less what I was referring to, thanks for the response My issue with mines is that long re-charge time between attacks, so it feels like they're used much better for defending than attacking. I was always a fan of timing pushes with rine/tank, but guess I'll just have to practice doing it with rine/mine :/
|
Thanks Iaguz... I expressed myself badly. I'm a Platinum player, my goal is to reeach Masters, i've seen a lot of Mech players in Masters. Is that i don't feel like i'm progressing in a good way if the "best player in the world" can't win going mech. You know what i mean?
I'll try something else maybe a fighting game analogy. Let's suppose i play Street Fighter in the PS3 controller and i am wanting to improve from bad to good player. As everybody knows players that use Arcade Sticks has and edge because the Arcade Stick is more precise than the controller... If the second player uses an PS3 Controller he will probably never beat the best player in the world that uses an Arcade Stick. If i try to improve using the PS3 controller i feel like i'm doing it wrong you know?
It's what i feel about me playing Mech... If there are much more Bio players than Mech and a mech player have never been the best Terran in the world for me it feels like i'm learning the wrong way of playing. It's craziness i know but it is what i feel.
Sorry for this weird analogy and i hope you understood what i meant with "Perfectly played Mech/Bio"

To be fair to tanks they can be good for some things. Getting tanks early can help a ton vs aggressive zergs and the cliffier the map the better. On a map where it's really hard for zergs to get creep past their 4th at a certain time passive 3 cc tank builds can be neat sometimes. And vs roach hydra or roach bane styles, tanks are good. I prefer going heavier marauder medivac vs them instead of tanks but I wouldn't say making tanks is wrong there.

I need advice regarding late game TvP micro when protoss is both on colossus and templar tech. Theoretically I know what I have to do but in an actual game scenario it is very hard to execute it.
I either manage to cast EMPs but my army remains in a big ball (since I am moving on the map) so colossus and 1-2 storms that he has left (I can rarely get all energy of all templars) destroys my bio too fast, or I am busy spreading my bio in a concave/line on the map so I don't switch back to ghosts in time to EMP. Or I have ghosts in front and his templars are in the back so I lose some of them to chargelots/colossus before templars even come in range... Basically there is a lot of ways to screw up and all lead to one sided stomp.
They are usually waiting for me at home so I can't hold the towers for extra vision and I feel like I need to do something to end the game before he banks too much resources.
I tired using 3 hotkeys (1-bio, 2-ghosts 3-vikings) and I tried 2 hotkeys (1-bio+vikings 2-ghosts) but I almost always mess up.
I play 10 games per day on average but I maybe get 1 late game TvP scenario (usually on Frost) so I don't really get a chance to practice it.
Is there some training map that is close to realistic scenario where I could redo the fight many times in a row? Or a protoss player willing to practice this late game fight?
It is the only matchup where I can lose even if my macro is better than his macro.

TvP lategame is really fucking hard and I'm kinda shit at it. I think what you need to do is get tons of ghosts with energy for mass cloak and emp shenanigans, and you need to try and get your army into a situation where protoss is forced to attack into your army. A situation where ideally he can't storm because he can't get units past the barrage of emps and well concaved bio. It's incredibly easy for Protoss to drag terran into all their spread out templar for storms, if that happens you will get torn to pieces.
So you need to try and get your army pressuring his bases and encouraging him to go into your army. Ideally before he switches into tempests.
You need extra Orbital commands for tons of scans so you don't get caught out by anything and you can use nukes to destroy cannons and force the protoss back and ideally into your army.
I think this is what you've got to do. Even then you can easily just lose anyway due to protoss army strength. Man I hate protoss!

When should i be ebay blocking in tvp? like when should i send my scv out? (when going for a reaper, reactor, cc)
|
at 14 supply send out a scout to check for 10 gate. after you've got a quick look at his main and it's clear he's not chronoing out zealot/stalker mocore slap down the ebay at his natural immediately.
The whole point of ebay blocking is just to ensure your CC always comes down before his nexus does, Even if he has a zealot as long as you expand faster and make sure to not lose the scv and cancel the Ebay just before it dies you should be fine.
Generally you ebay block when opening reaper (or that 12 rax 12 gas reactor into double reaper thing, in which case I think ebay blocking is almost essential) because protoss sometimes like to not build units and make nexus at ~3:30 and that's kinda annoying. You can ebay block with most non CC first builds, though it can be extremely awkward if your opponent isn't intending to expand at all, but with a reaper opener you have a better chance of deducing just what's going to hit you if that's what happens.
When you do ebay block remember he might just chrono out the stalker and go attack, so make sure to have a bunker ready and don't lose any production time on marines and depots.

Here's a one year old guide on AllThingsTerran on TvP lategame. It's still relevant today, and gives some great tips on how to engage the "deathball".

Yes I saw that guide a long time ago. As I said, I know what should I do, I just lack practice so I mess up my control. I would probably have to play like a pro gamer (50 games per day) to get to practice for the late game TvP.. I play around 10 games per day and get maybe 1 late game TvP

I want to keep myself updated on Taeja's builds. Can someone tell me what the usual opener and transitions are for Taeja during a TvZ. And correct me if I'm wrong, Taeja's usual builds are 1-1-1 against Terran and a CC first or Rax CC against Toss.
