I'm wondering how this would work with protoss when shift queuing build commands, then (while still holding shift), pressing the layered camera to select a specific base to return the probe to if that layered camera shares a key with a building hotkey. Example: queuing your probe to build 3 gateways with "shift + I" then queuing it to return to your base on camera "shift + I". Perhaps for protoss, it's better to just use "ctrl" for layered cameras? edit: Nvm...instead of holding shift before pressing "I", if I just press shift after pressing it, then this layout works perfectly. In fact, I would say this layout is a huge improvement for all 3 races!

In fact, I would say this layout is a huge improvement for all 3 races! Unfortunately this is not the case with all abilities (for example shift queuing tanks to unsiege, move to a new location, and siege again). To solve this we will be moving the base cameras onto the control group side. So 09PO;L for right handed non-zergs etc etc. We'll have this data out asap, but all we're doing is choosing the 6 closest keys on the control group side (as described in the first page of the development document) if you want to get a head start. Also: Working on fixing up the Data Document to make room for the new units and abilities for HotS today, in addition to 1 billion other things. For terrans, I would suggest putting the lift button far away from the normal more often used keys. It makes learning the system much easier since you don't run the risk of lifting your buildings by accident. Also, with a razer mouse, it's possible to bind three cameras to the middle mouse button. I have a camera on foward scroll, another one on the backward scroll, and a third camera on the middle mouse button. I think you would be able to rebind those keys in a tournament since you only need the razer drivers to be able to say "when I use foward scroll, press A".

It's a huge mistake, and one that is easy to make, but I still don't think moving a commonly used key further away is a good idea. Sure, learning will be easier, but then you'll end up with a less optimal setup.

Well, there's a mouse option called "Enhance Pointer Precision" which is the most inaptly named options of all time, and it is allowed to be changed. Plus, I believe White-Ra plays with that setting on, so in order for him to have good mouse control on offline tournaments he would have to be able to change that. I am positive that they would be allowed to change any setting which doesn't require administrator permissions and helps the player not play terribly.

I am following your work very closely, and incorporating a lot of all your innovation and sensible choices in my custom hotkey layout (such as the layered cameras!). This thread is also extremely valuable because of suggestions like the one by aka_star - which I think is just awesome. I want to ask if you already shared (or if you are willing to share) the list of 100+ combos FoxyMayhem mentioned in this post. I think that would be extremely valuable information to lern how to use The Core properly and most importantly, to understand the reasons behind the design and work them out in my own (or everyone's own) custom layout. For example, a combo would be like: [base camera, calldown: mule] another one could be [hatchery control group, select larva, build overlord]. Notice that I am not referring to the exact list of keys to press (such as [1 L O]): it would be too long to list how each such combo is implemented in each of the 48+ layouts, and hard to update it whenever a new version of The Core is out. Thanks!

Yes it needs updating, the man power is stretched at the moment and development has been pushed to the limits because of a new discovery which everyone is eager to try out. 0.4 was short lived and its now not worth updating the documents because 0.5 is going to be awesome and require another rewrite, so that documentation is a low priority but check back in a week or so and I'm sure everything will make sense again.

0.4 was never actually completed. With the new discovery of changing modifiers to increase efficiency, as well as "Spoof" designing a program to create the 48 layouts out of 4 "Base" layouts, we felt it made more sense to jump to a new version, that was big enough to warrant a full 0.5 and not a 0.4.1. Because of this, the version will remain at 0.3.3 until 0.5 is complete. (ZLM and ZLMM were never updated to 0.4) @DarkSeraph In my experience, using the left arrow requires a full hand motion, while using the / button requires only finger motion. But if your experience is different, feel free to customize. Also, if everyone is having that experience, we'll definitely consider changing it. I am hesitant to use the arrow keys because depending on your keyboard, the arrow keys may not be as convenient for you, and TheCore has some hardware limitations already (no laptop keyboards). I don't want to go further in that direction unless it is significantly more efficient and consistent. Interesting idea though. We are looking for a key, or combination of keys, for the "previous subgroup" function. Ideas?
