I use DarkGrid b/cuz The Core inspired me to improve my hotkeys, even tho I'm on a laptop.
I upped my donation a bit for you... fuzzies all 'round.
@Jak Nothing wrong with occasionally reminding people that some form of income is beneficial, considering the tools you provide are free. In a lot of other fields you need to pay for tools/training things, but that business model wouldn't really work here I guess.

@Morsk Also keep in mind that the control group set-up is just a recommendation in TheCore's data document. If you want to use your control groups differently, then go ahead and do whatever is most comfortable for you.

@Ticcie Thanks so much As far as this "business model" goes its actually very likely a bad one. We'll see how it works out, but I could be doing something like charging subscription to use the ggtracker mod that we're developing, or charging for downloads of TheCore. It might actually make me more money. It's just not my style. I really don't like making things available only for the affluent.

I just recently started using the core and I noticed an small error with the TRMM profile in HotS. In the download, battle hellion is bound to V (should be - ) and salvage bunker is bound to M (should be - ).

Thanks for the great layout! I have committed the fix for these to the GitHub. Hellbat production was broken for pretty much all layouts, and salvage was broken for the layouts that use mouse buttons.

I am using R R M and playing Protoss, after around 30games:
Why is warp gate on 8. It is very common key to use during game. For me 8 should be very rarerly used key, for Cybernetics Core or Robotics Bay (1 a game). Warp Gate was fine on K in 0.5 versions. Sentry can be still on M. Colossus was fine on J, I dont get it why WarpPrism is instead. Should be on M.
Why has that changed?
If becouse of late game, I dont take it becouse the common game takes not more than 20min

Warp gate is not on the same command card as build basic or advanced. (Cyber Core/ Robo Bay) Also, warp gate is used only 1 a game as well... not that that is the logic we use to design the layout, but that was your example. In the newest patch we made TheCore meta-proof, this means that it is based off of things that are not influenced by the meta-game, so units come in priority before upgrades, and units are made in order of which costs less and not how much they are built in the current meta game.

I have random instances where ctl-shift-0 doesn't work.
It's NOT the language hotkeys problem from the OP. i fixed that already, but still have some times when it won't work. I haven't been able to find any rhyme or reason to it, but was wondering if you or anyone else had any ideas?

Hey, JaKaTaK.
I actually registered for the sole purpose of telling you what happened to me as I browsed your initial post and watched the videos. First, I looked at the layout. Then, I watched the videos. Then, I tried to apply it. I thought it was the clumsiest garbage I had ever come across. And really it was.
Then I read the thread again, sure that I had missed something. Oh yeah, removing the keys between the Right Alt and Ctrl. And tilting the keyboard.
Now I tried again, and had a complete nerdgasm at the simple THOUGHT of using this in an actual gaming environment. I've played World of Warcraft at very high competitive level (Gladiator season 1 through 7, then quit playing), and just recently got into SC2. I was using the grid system, but actually never used the cameras because of two key actors: their default UI position is completely retarded (what the hell were they thinking?), and I have too small hands to hit anything comfortably that's further than the default grid setup. At best I can reach for F1 through F4, but using them with any modifier other than shift is out of the question, and still it was a very clumsy way to do so.
I am sold on "The Core", now and forever. I _will_ be using this setup in any and all games I'll ever play using a traditional keyboard. The N52 gaming pad does wonders for MMOs, but doesn't really work out too well with SC2. Plus, my hands are a bit too small to take advantage of the N52's full potential.
You, sir, are awesome. It's amazing how I never quite thought about a way to make the basic keyboard hell of a lot more efficient than it initially is.
After 100~ games with the regular keyboard, I managed to get into Diamond. I don't know how good that is relative to most people, but I'm confident my speed will increase tenfold once muscle memory kicks. Good f---ing lord do I love you right now.

JaKaTaK thx, after me post i read data document and i should delete my question. You have right, I press 8 for about 20times (per common game), but I made around the same sentries.
This is still beta so many people have quesions like that, I will play more and we will see. I need to use to it, same as I started with TheCore 0.5 and righ now i dont want to change the 'original 0.6' layout. I want to be stick to it.
(in 0.5 i changed robo to H, only used 1 time, but it is good idea to switch forge, becouse it will be used at least once, same with dark templar i switch to H). H is very easy for me to hit.
Thx for data document where You wrote witch key for army, specyfic units. It will help new people to learn, I missed this at beginning.

How do you tap through hatcheries with the core? Isn't this something that all pros do? Setting hoykeys to hatcheries instead for units so they can tap the hotkey to see when the inject is ready? I would like to hear your thoughts on this. There are things in your layout I admire but I am still not sure if I should have 8 hotkeys for units ..... or have 4 dedicated hotkeys for macro. Please discuss!

There are 5 major ways to inject: You can check out their advantages and disadvantages here:
To check injects on the inject methods where the hatcheries are on the same hotkey you can either use the base cameras or check energy on queens. Checking energy on queens is actually better in the situation where you have perfect or near perfect injects because the queen energy is at 23 after a perfect inject cycle is done on the hatchery.

I don't think this is pratical since we are not used to cross using the keyboard, thus we are throwing away 5000+ hours of practice that we had using the keyboard normally. I've used PCs since I was a child, I can position my left hand on the left side of the keyboard and start typing with my eyes closed. Using this layout I can't even position my hands on the right keys+. Of course its a matter of practice, but I have years worth of practice using the keyboard normally.
I think this would be a better layout if you just managed to bring the 7890- (and the F's) hotkeys closer, and maybe add some crazy combinations for camera hotkeys, like SPACE + ASD or S->D for drone production

You can use DarkGrid layout - Here!. It's all in the left side of the keyboard and provide some advantages compared to a usuall grid(such as layered cameras and compact CG's). Tyr it!
