Let me just say I think this is a great project, so much so that a dumped my old hotkey setup of 1.5 years almost immediately upon discovering TheCore.
I do have a question though: is using mouse 4/5 tournament legal usually?
Also, a suggestion (ZRM): Base camera being F10 is a bit unweildy for zergs who use that method for inject. I changed it to backspace and find it much easier. Also, perhaps standardizing some upgrades would be beneficial (for instance, i swapped the spire upgrades so they're consistent with the evo chamber and ultralisk cavern: carapace upgrades are all J, and so are speed upgrades (pool and hydralisk den). Similarly, all attack upgrades except ranged attacks at the evo chamber are bound to O-the zergling attack, hydra attack range, flyer and melee attacks, etc. I think this only requires swapping the spire upgrade hotkeys and maybe the hydra den hotkeys in HoTS.
Anyway, keep up the great work! And Thanks
Tengo I didn't think of some of those, cool However, attack and carapace upgrades should match, unless I made a mistake...
Air attack/carapace are reversed from their ground counterparts. Air carapace = ground range, air attack = ground carapace, which is why I switched them
I didn't think of switching the hydra upgrades though. Done.

Just started using the core ZRM (Nordic) and I'm loving it. I mean I can barely fight of A.I. on hard but I'm starting to get a hang of it and I'm starting to see it's potential. Every hotkey is just beneath my fingertips!
The hardest part is cameras and control groups since there are no numerical order to them. But each game I'm feeling more and more comfortable.
I'm on a mac with a wireless keyboard without the numerical and arrow-keys underneith the enter and shift key. Since it has no right side CTRL key I checked the "Use cmd instead of Ctrl..." in the control options and used Steermouse to map my sidebuttons on my mouse to ALT and CMD. Works perfectly. And since my F1-F12 buttons are placed a bit differently than a normal keyboard I changed the F5 to F7, F6 to F8 etc. Just some tips if someone else is using a similar keyboard...
At first the option/alt key was mapped to follow selected unit so I couldn't use the location cam but I just unmapped it and now it works fine. Maybe I'll map it to some other key or combination but I rarely use it anyways. I was doing some configuration before starting the games so I don't know maybe it was my mistake
Otherwise, great job guys!
EDIT:
Just found this in an earlier post in the thread. Now the camera mapped to alt makes more sense (Although disregard the Ctrl + Shift recall, at least for ZRM that seems to be mapped to just Shift + key now.)

There is a utility in the OP to modify the hotkey file for different keyboard layouts. If one isn't already made for JP then you can manually make a conversion file for the utility (which really doesn't take very long, and there's instructions in the readme).

If you do this, send me the conversion file and I'll make it so that copies of TheCore are automatically generated for it on the GitHub repository.
Alternatively, you could send me a picture of your keyboard and I'll make one for you.

When you make camera hotkeys. How do you press alt+ctrl? I don't think I can do it with my thumb since on my keyboard the altgr and ctrl buttons are huge. Maybe you guys do it differently.
|
On your keyboard you have an Alt Gr on the right side. This key functions as Alt+Ctrl, so you just press that button :D
|
Oh nice, that explains a lot. Thanks for the fast answer. Been having some wrist issues (combination of starcraft and heavy studying I guess). And since this hotkey setup reduces that strain a lot I'm going to switch to this setup.

Awesome! Let me know how that works out for you

Ok, what if you dont have an Alt Gr button? I use the CM Quickfire Rapid keyboard (Nordic?) and i only have their logo button. I mean I have 2x alt buttons but no one called alt gr. I have 1 alt button on left side of keyboard and one on the right side. I also have a button called "FN".

I might look into it. I only recently got HOTS beta so that was a good motivator to switch some things up going into it. So it's basically a new start, I am platinum in WoL though (not that it means anything when you're changing hotkeys so drastically) so I'm not sure if I'm in your category.

I did a search for CM Quickfire Rapid keyboard, and it seems to have the same keyboard layout as US keyboards.
However, if you do have one that has a Nordic layout but no Alt Gr button on the right side, you can use the program in the OP for remapping for different keyboard layouts, go in to the Nordic.ini file, and change AltGr=1 to AltGr=0, and then run the tool.
It would be helpful if you could link to an image of your keyboard layout.

@SunRa If you don't have an Alt Gr then just change everything that says Alt+Control to Alt in the text file. Very easy Find and Replace
@Sennin If you're in platinum, starting with new hotkeys will likely put you into BSG so you are free to submit and application to the email if you'd like :D

the armory upgrades seem to be wrong on TRM 0.6.1
J and I are infantry attack and defense in the armory J and M are attack and defense K and I are ship attack and defense
should be J I for vehicle and M and K for ship weapons/armor to follow finger use symetry
|
If your file doesn't match the data document it is wrong. I'll take a look at TRM. Thanks for the heads up

I didn't see this in the diagrams in the faq but it probably has been covered somewhere I would think...
Is center mouse button still used for scroll lock in The Core? (Mouse button 3)
Because I don't know if any pros use the center mouse button for scroll lock, at least they shouldn't, between the minimap and camera hotkeys I think scroll lock is rendered obsolete.
If I was to come up with a suggestion for it, I'd say that there's your solution to the "far warp in" problem. I have it set to warp in when I'm playing toss, or base camera as random or zerg in my current hotkey settup. It's an INSANELY handy button in my opinion and pretty much every mouse has it. (It's clicking [not scrolling] the mousewheel.)

it seems that the problem is with the HOTS armory upgrades interfering with the WOL armory upgrades
|
The HotS armory should not "interfere" with the WoL upgrades. But they should be consistent with them, so that when WoL players make the switch, it'll be smooth and easy.
If we change the way the armory is now, it will not be as smooth of a transition into HotS (Less than 2 months away).
|
Interfere in the sense that in WOL the armory armor upgrades are separate while in HOTS they are combined. This could lead to a situation where the binds would look fine in one and wrong in the other, say if the name of the upgrade looks the same in the config (have not checked yet, I don't really play the beta much).
