Right-handed and left-handed refers to your dominant (or mouse) hand, just as in common English usage. In TheCore, right-handed players who use their left hand on the keyboard move their left hand over to the right side of the keyboard. Left-handed players who use their right hand on the keyboard move their right hand over to the left side of the keyboard.

I got this when I logged into the Beta after the most recent patch: There is of course the "Ignore" button, so it's not really an issue.
I got this too. There were unbound keys for me so I had to manually map them :/

I think I might try this layout. I'm always trying to get the most efficient way to do things, like for example the bépo keyboard layout (dvorak variant for french), Linux customization, scripting etc. The thing is that I have a really uncommon keyboard which is the Typematrix 2030, therefore the keys are really not placed like on the images. I'm hesitating to either modify the layout or to get a new keyboard… Maybe I'll try to adapt TheCore to my keyboard but it might take some time as, for example, I can't easily do things like Shift+P. Maybe remapping Shift to the End key or something like that would work.

I love that keyboard. If you modify it for TheCore, definitely share it on the thread. You won't have to tilt the keyboard because everything is already aligned properly! The tricky part would be to get ctrl, alt, and shift in a nice place for the thumb, but i'm sure it can be done.

Hehe so you know this keyboard :D Ok i think i will try to modify it and if i get something that seems good enough i will share it here

Hell yea man, we looked at all kinds of keyboards when designing TheCore. Foxy actually uses carpalx for typing because of his hand injuries.

Hello Jakatak!
I am making the move to the core right now. It seems super logical and much better. I am using the extra mouse buttons.
Is it allowed to use the extra mouse buttons as a single key in tournaments (i.e. using them for Cgroups like the core document suggests) ?
I hear people saying it is not allowed, and that mouse keys can only be bound to right click, left click and scroll. This makes no sense to me, as the sc2 peripherals have extra mouse buttons. But I'd like some confirmation on it. I need it also to spread the word of TheCore in the Israeli community
Thnaks!

As far as tournaments go, they each have their own rules, but basically stick to the ToS. Which is, as long as its 1 function for 1 press you're fine. You'd have to look it up individually, but so far, when we've contacted tournaments, they're fine with the extra mouse buttons.

Thank you very much for the reply!

Really frustrating day today. Apparently we can't override the in game editor by changing the text files anymore... which means that chrono-boost is going to be taken off the home row and is now 4-5x slower. Fucking Blizzard...
Ideas?

I was looking into trying TheCore again, but I can't seem to adjust it to my Belgian Azerty keyboard. I sent a PM to Phatency but haven't received a reply yet, so I figured I'd post here as well. Basically I'd just need to adjust the French Azerty template but I'm not sure how to go about making it work, making any changes seems to break keys that don't seem to be related at all. Here's the details of the differences:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AZERTY#Differences_between_the_Belgian_and_French_layouts_of_the_AZERTY_keyboard
The following page is in Dutch, but it's interesting since at the bottom of the paragraph there's 3 sections that show the default keys, the keys that you get using Shift, and the keys you get using Alt Gr:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/AZERTY
It shouldn't exactly be difficult but I'm a tad confused at how the template for the French Azerty conversion works, so I don't know how to change it for the Belgian Azerty either. Any help would be appreciated.

Use the flowchart in the skydrive to find out which layout is right for you and take a note of its name. Use this tool for the conversion into your keyboard. Make a remapping file with it (check the readme). Requires .NET framework 3.0 or higher, and probably Windows. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/14548792/SC2HotkeyRemapper.zipWhen possible we'll have straight downloads for different keyboard types, for now, if you make a version for a different keyboard, please share it in the comments I believe this will work.

Yeah I'm using that, but it doesn't contain a template for Belgian Azerty yet, and it's creating one that I'm not quite sure how to do. I'm not sure how they figured out the mappings for the French Azerty version, which also means I don't know how to adapt it to the Belgian Azerty one.

Can you explain that a bit more Jak? Is this for HotS? Everything is working the same for me in WoL.
Is this for everything i.e. no more manually editing the text file at all? Or just entering conflicts into the text file i.e. no more Core+ with chrono and attack on same key?
I actually had an "Ohhhh craaaaaaap" moment as soon as I saw the picture of that Hotkey conflict box. This is exactly what Blizzard did to the Hybrid Graphic settings. No 'blue' poster ever approved or decried the efforts, they just brought in a couple of patches, first kneecapping it then killing it, never saying a word.
They are obviously aware of what everyone here is up to. But no 'blue' will approve or disapprove, no developer will fix the front end to make it possible without a text file, it will simply suddenly be killed.
I asked earlier for a different reason but maybe we should bite the bullet and ask about this in the HotS beta forum saying something along these lines....
- This post gives an idea of how poorly the in-game editor works
- partly because the .SC2Map file defines default keys and the SC2 front end sets overides
- but depending on the .SC2Map maker you may not be able to set an ability through the front (Blizzard themselves gets this wrong in dozens of places, Aeon of Strife - forget about it)
- partly because the designers of the front end didn't bone up on set theory before starting
- the front end considers 'Select Builder' and 'Train Marine' part of the same set and therefore a conflict to use the same key for both. But they are members of different sets: if you are still building the Barracks and want to move the SCV then obviously you are in no position to train anything.
- This post shows Blizzard's M.O. is to silently assassinate something they don't like.
- Given this, we are concerned that we are seeing the sun rise over kneecap territory. Can we have a response confirming/denying the following:
- Yes, you are being kneecapped but don't worry: yes the deathblow is coming and we promise it will be quick.
- We will upgrade the front end so that hotkeys can be set properly.
- Properly as in: what Ultima Online was capable of last century.
- Last century properly as in: any combination of Control/Alt/Shift/Keypress to any command.
- Properly as in: correct set theory.
- Properly as in: custom games too.
- Properly as in: upgrades won't kill the hotkey.

It may be time to make a long video, or post, addressing blizzard or something. There are so many built-in inefficiencies in this game.
