Hi. I have searched the forums using the keywords "stop medivac units terran following"
But most of them are issues involving the medivac not following the main bio army. Which is not the issue I encounter.

I am not going to add any replays here because I think most Terran players will know what I mean by this.

Whenever I have a huge bio army and a few medivacs, I would try to drop the opponent. I do this by selecting the bio army group, then clicking a single medivac to load it. Then I CLICK on the medivac to move it around the map for a drop. However, for some reason, the remaining bio army on the ground would follow the medivac and I have to waste APM moving them away and not follow on the ground like idiots... Is there a way around it? Am I doing it wrong or do I just have to waste APM... It has messed up many of my games. Thanks for your reply.

Hehe i dont think there is any other option beside the way u do it or to just try to select exactly the units u need =). I have the same problem myself and my macro gets so bad during all of this, would be nice if there is any other way but i dont think there is cause i saw many pros with the same problem

select army, click medivac, the medivac loads instantly since its above your army, hit s ==> army stops, grab medivac and go. It shouldn't add any time to process since you can hit s pretty much as soon as you click medivac.

Hold shift then click on the medivacs you want to load units into. This works only if you have ground units (exclude medivacs) selected and wait until the queued commands are done (no more dotted lines showing on the screen). Still, empty medivacs + a few ground units still try to follow it. However, this issue is resolved if you queue a command for the units to move to a location or queue a stop command afterwards. Shift is useful when loading multiple medivacs since you don't have to wait for one to load before clicking the next medivac, since the loading isn't instant if your ground units happen to not be right underneath your medivacs.

tl;dr - Hold shift, click on medivac(s), hit s or right click somewhere else, let go of shift.

as the above poster said hit s after loading or attack move or just move your whole army then move your medivac. I dont think there is any other quicker way. plus this isnt that much more apm . just be more watchful of your clicks

If your medivacs are a little distance away from your army, such that it hitting S after the load would cause some bit of wasted time, if you hit Shift + S or Shift + H immediately after right-clicking the medivac, then only the number of units that fit into the medivac will continue to load and all other units will remain in place, solving your problem.

From my sc notebook.

mass loading into dropships

select units to load into dropships
right click first dropship
hold shift + stop or hold position
right click remaining drop ships

all units should be in drop ships, units that cant fit should be stationary unloading drop ships with unload command + clicking on dropship should result in units dropping in place and being idle

holding shift before first right click results in units rallying back to where they started before the right click was issued after an unload

not holding stop or hold position after the first right click results in units unloading and immediately loading into the first right clicked on drop ship (executing the order they were blocked from doing originally by the drop ship being full).

After you load up, hit H to hold-position your entire force, double click the medivacs, then move out.

Hold shift with army, right click medivac, right click back on the ground, move medivacs when you hear the whoosh-dummm noise. Simple and effective, it adds like 0.2 of a second :D

EDIT: Btw "whoosh-dummm noise" is the loading sound. Terrible onomatopoeia on my part...

I think once you understand why this whole thing happens, the solution should be clear. There's tons of ways you can do it.

When you select a unit and right-click another one of your units, you're issuing a follow command. Your unit will go in the direction of the unit you right-clicked and when the latter moves, the first will follow.

The command remains active until you tell it to do something else, anything else.

When you right-click a medivac, there's two possibilities.

- - IF the unit can be loaded (has room, it's not a flying unit) - it will load.
- - Otherwise, it's on follow command.

So if, as someone else said, your troops are exactly under the medivac, if you select all the units and right click the medivac they'll instantly load (the ones that can fit into it). What I do in these cases is: right-click medivac, right-click ground next to it. So I issue a move command right after the load/follow command and no one is on follow command any more.

It's mostly a matter of getting used to do stuff like this, after a while you just know that every time you load a medivac, if you issue the command to more than say 8 marines, there's gonna be some units on follow command, and you have to tell them to do something else.

I've seen pros missing units on follow command though, can't remember who or when, but it's happened.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to stop this other than "Wasting your APM." It really isn't that big of a deal to have to do, though, as it takes maybe 3 or 4 clicks to stop, so I don't see why it's that big of a deal. I remember it being patched a few patch notes ago.

Once you load all your marines into the medivac, box everything and press stop, then send out the medivac. It really shouldnt take that long; It should be as fast as if you were boxing and hotkeying your units.

Shift right click the medivac, then on the ground:

8 Marines load up, the rest stay on the ground where you right clicked the second time.
Simple and effective.

Hey, shift-queue-ing stop or hold, that's very clever! I should incorporate that.
Not sure what you're trying to say when you're talking about unloading though...

Personally I hit H as it's easier to reach than S for me (wierd, i know)

The good thing about shift-queueing the 'S'top or 'H'old Position command is that even if the medivac is far away, only the units that fit into the medivac will run to the medivac, all others stay put. I imagine using right click instead of S or H would have similar effect.

This is how I do it. Just a simple stop command will do it.

I can not even believe this is an issue.

It was patched in fact so it happens this way, just click the terrain with the bio army once you upload the medivacs, then send the medivacs and it will stop happening, you only need like one more click.

I'm not a Terran player but I know what you mean. When this occurs for me, I just select everything and hit S to stop everything then I re-issue my commands for the medivac.

I do the same but with shift and move.

Take grap of marines, clic on medivac, shift right clic on ground, then they will go back to the ground and no more follow medivac.

Yeah, I used to do that all the time. It's not hard to fix, you just fill up your medivac, hit stop, or tell all of your selected units to do something else and then send the medivac on it's way. Alternatively, you can just make sure you only tell the right number of units to load into it. I think the first way is easier. Certainly easier than rounding up units wandering all over the map. Just make it a habit and you won't even notice.
If all you're offering is Dos Equis, I will stay thirsty thank you very much.
