Hi guys!
I have started playing SC2 2 weeks ago and I'm liking it pretty much. I have learned to play with hotkeys and my macro is (for someone who has played for 2 weeks) not absolutely shabby. My biggest issue is that I tend to push way (and by way i mean WAAAAY) too late, I guess that's why I've lost all ladder games so far (I know... still, only 2 weeks "old"). Is there anything that could help me to solidly learn when I'm supposed to push? I'm not speaking of microing, that's still very far ahead of me, just the timing.
I'm thankful for every hint you guys can give me.

Your question awnsered in one link : Bronze too masters FilterSC guide
Starts terran and he has a zerg one also.
If you really want to improve you need to stop watching day9 and stop focusing on this theoretical stuff and just PLAY the game instead. Playing is the only way of improving. If you need new input on builds start watching first person streams of terran players. Personally I found Bratok's stream very educational. Kas also streams alot and is worth watching.
Thank you. I am liking Kas's stream! Thanks again.

@morthen
They key to knowing when to push is being active on the map. You can be out on the map whenever you know you can retreat safely. Against protoss this is almost always, certainly once you have stim and medivacs. Against zerg, this is where your hellions/banshee come in. Against terran is kinda tricky to know when to push.
You want to be looking out for some sign that he is weak, either direct sight of his army, or knowledge like he has taken some risk, like really fast tech or really fast expo.
Alternatively you should be pushing when YOU reach a certain point, when you get 1/1 upgrades, or 2/2 upgrades, or when you get 5 tanks, or first 2 medivacs. Choose a point in your build to attack and see how it works out in real games.

Ideally you want to be pushing as quickly as possible while fulfilling the "requirements" of your push, and producing units non-stop. So for instance a bio push requires medivacs+stim at minimum, and most likely also +1 attack and combat shields. You want to hit him the moment all these are finished, so the moment your medivacs pop out move to his base, and by the time you engage him you want all those upgrades to be finished.
If you're going for a tank push, you should set a goal for number of tanks (1 base tank push a good number is prbly 2 tank). After tank 2, start siege mode and start moving to your opponent. You should also probably have some sort of air to give vision to your tanks, ideally vikings/cloak banshee but can also be medivac.
If you're going for a marine hellion medivac push you want to push the moment the medivac is out.
Hitting crisp timings is the key to winning at starcraft so it's very positive that you think in this manner.
You want to make your push as soon as possible once you have your designated tech, at which point it will be most powerful.

Don't forget to make workers non-stop till 60-70 or else you won't be able to push in time. ^This is VERY important!

Who do you guys think is the best one or two players in each TvX matchup right now? The ones that look really solid who do a lot of macro builds. I'm thinking of doing something similar to the Terran Study Guide in the BW section but the only Starcraft I watch at the moment is Proleague so I'm not sure who is looking strong. I might wait until the winter break is over before I start doing this so I can watch the Kespa players in GSL and Proleague now they've really had time to settle down and practice.

TvT - Ryung, Gumiho
TvZ - MVP, Polt (Bombers TvZ also looked amazing, worth checking him out too.)
TvP - Bomber, Taeja

TvP - Bomber, Taeja Thanks, I agree with all of your choices actually, but I will probably include Taeja for TvT as well because his TvT is really strong. My plan is just to mass watch their VODs and note down builds and such for study.

I would include Ryung in TvZ for sure. There doesnt seem to be a terran who around who play both biomech and mech TvZ so well as he does.

Could anyone explain to concept of cutting corners as a Terran player, and some examples? thanks

My interpretation would be that cutting corners is taking risks. E.g going CC before second supply depot. Generally greedy play.
|
What do you think about getting your 3rd CC right after your factory when you scout 1 Rax FE of your opponent before the adding the neccessary 2 additional factories as a meching terran? Or should this only be a reaction to CC first or when i'am in huge advantage?
I saw this by Ryung against qxc and Puma in the MLG and want to know if it's good or not. I mean most of the time you have your CC in your base and don't get the additional gas income because it's too dangerous in my opinion to fly it to the 3rd so early against a bio player - they can easily snipe it.

Question about HOTS:
TvR when R= Terran
So, reapers are kind of a big deal in TvT right now. Since you can't know if they're going reaper until they're already doing it, it seems to me that you either go reaper yourself, or you open with gas to account for the possibility of reaper aggression.
The problem for me comes in TvR, when R=T. My question is, how are you opening TvR? Do you blindly open reaper yourself every game? Do you still attempt a 1 rax (no gas) FE? Do you depot scout? If you didn't open gas, whats your reaction (and your opening) when you scout R=T going reaper? Is a gasless FE safe anymore in TvT? Is it the ultimate coin flip lol?
|
Against a Random player I always kindly ask what race they are, some of them will be nice enough to tell you. For the rest, send an earlier scout (at depot or earlier) and simply scout.
Should you be unlucky with the scout and spawning positions you can always opt to make one single Reaper yourself. A single Reaper can be used for scouting in all three match-ups without any significant downsides. You could also make a single Marauder but this is more defensive than getting a Reaper.
1 Rax no Gas FE is a greedy build (IMO) so it shouldn't be surprising that a Random player could punish it, Reapers simply have an edge in this regard due to their effectiveness against Marines.

Hi, I recently switched to Hellion/Banshee TvZ. My question is... how do i transition smoothly into bio? When do I build the barracks/get stim, and start engi bays/upgrades? I want to do a Taeja style biomech, where he goes Marine/Tank/Thor after the hellion/banshee agression/scouting.

hi, can anyone tell me is it possible to do this:
so when i have bio + ghosts in the same control group or selected at once i have to press tab to stim, is it possible to reverse this so the stim spell takes prioirity then ghost spells i have to tab to?

No this is not possible, you cannot change the priority of these things. Anyway you should use at least two different hotkeys when playing ghost with bio.
