It's actually not best to mine the close patches because you lose a trip worth of minerals if you don't tell them to stop mining, pending map to an extent of course. There's a discussion on it here.
Will leave the actual question to someone else though, just thought that might be useful.

1. Should upgrades be considered lost resources? In replays, I think displaying upgrades as losses would make more sense because if you kill 10 enemy marines and lose 8 and you have 1/1, I'm pretty sure you've lost more resources at that point in time. Kind of like sacrifice early army for later army. (Upgrades have the same effect as expanding)
2. Is there a way to see total money gained in replays? I usually look at the losses tab to figure out who's doing better in battles, but then remember that someone defending on 2 bases is going to easily have less losses than the player who is attacking non-stop off of 5 bases. It is a poor indicator of what's going on. Also the number of units lost is completely pointless.
3. I've heard people say that the general rule of thumb for zerg is have at least one more base than your opponent. I know this is necessary for fighting Terran because of the power of MULEs, but is it true for Protoss? I think on Zerg strategies it says stay one base ahead, but on Protoss it says don't fall behind on bases.
4. In ZvT, what is the best way to beat zergling/infestor? I play Zerg and often find it too easy to win against Terrans in the mid game. The only thing I've found to be strong against zergling/infestor is a lot of bunkers since marines inside can't be hit by fungal growth and zerglings lack the burst damage to break them open easily.
5. Has there been any competitive use of the phoenix range upgrade? I have yet to see it. I'm just curious

What is the optimal response to a engineering bay expo block as zerg?

Send a drone to harass the scv to prevent him from building it up to much. If you scout it early, go for an early (14) pool. If not just 15 pool and drone while you wait for lings to kill it. However, if you managed to make his scv run away and the e-bay only has ~100-150 hp, you can pull like 4 drones and kill it.

1. Seems silly. You don't lose the minerals because the next marines you build will also have the upgrade. Upgrades are an investment in the future, similar to how you build a starport to further your tech. It wouldnt make sense to list a starport's cost in the units lost tab.
2. I don't think so. Only way would be to look at a combination of army value and units lost. Even then, that would not take into account buildings/upgrades. You could always check the mineral patches at their bases. At any rate, generally the person with more bases is winning.
3. I think zerg and protoss are approximately even when zerg is "half a base" ahead. That is, when zerg has 3 bases to the protoss' 2 bases, the clock is ticking for the protoss. If he doesn't grab a base of his own or attack and kill the zerg's third, he's probably going to be behind. As Zerg, if you fast expand and notice the protoss does some sort of fast expand, you either need to kill it (so it will be 2 bases to 1, an advantage for zerg), or take a third so you will pull ahead in economy. Essentially, if zerg is a base ahead and stays a base ahead, he is winning. Likewise if the players have the same number of bases, protoss is generally winning.
With that said, the base count isn't always a telling factor. Zerg can postpone taking more bases in favor of teching to something like infestors or muta, to punish a greedy protoss. There are a lot of components that determine who is "winning".
4. Seiged tanks are good against infestors (and everything else). a big tank/marine/medivac push where the terran spreads their marines out is strong in the mid-game vs infestor/ling, provided that the terran is seiged before they engage. Also, going infestors generally means you skip mutas. As a result, drops with medivacs/marines can catch a zerg out of position if he doesn't have good map vision with overlords, or zerglings in his base, ready to defend a drop.
5. I think Hero used it in his GSL matches earlier this week, but I did not see the games. The battle report said he went phoenix -> range -> carriers vs a zerg.

Hi all Is it better to practice your macro on the ladder or against the AI I am a bronze player, presently rank 4th.

I believe it depends on what stage you are at with your practice. If you are struggling with early builds and spending your money in the mid game, I'd say practice against AI. This way you can grasp the basics without being under a bunch of pressure. If you are okay for the earlier stages of the game, you may want to just play ladder games and start the game knowing that you want to focus on your macro. Just my opinion

hi, i'm not sure if this is the right thread to post in, but I definitely didn't want to make a new thread about it. so. They are using new headsets(not the banshee anymore) in the GSL and I just wanted to know which brand this is ^.^ thnx

Just switched to Terran, silver league, was wondering if someone could give me some builds to use to start off with and link me to them.
Thanks in advance, Chivs.

Always practice against real players. The AI doesn't even try to play real starcraft.

You may feel that someone is wrong, but I wouldn't say it the way you do. The way you did just put someone down. Instead, say the advantages of playing against real players. However, the AI can help you learn the BO and defend against basic attack times. Therefore it isn't completely useless; it is simply a tool that leads to playing against real players.

Tvz: reactor hellion expand with bunker pressure, but if the bunker doesn't get up my 2 marines always get chased to death by 4-6 lings on way back to my base, is it worth it? What's the rule of thumb on when to retreat your marines?

Just my opinion Well, I try never to be under pressure on ladder, and don't worry about my ranking if I lose but tried my best. If you practice your macro on ladder, then your ranking and mmr will go down, but then you can practice against better opponents than the AI. The AI doesn't really even play anywhere near standard, as they often stay on 1 base for a very long period of time with hyper agression, but don't do anything macro focused. You could also think about custom games, but those can be very one-sided, as you don't have your MMR to help you. So basically, if you try not to be so stressed about your ladder ranking, then ladder is the best place to practice anything.

I am a Terran and I have trouble with making pushes against zerg with marine tank, what actions should I take? should I remove creep ahead of me first? leap frog? I lose alot of my matches because I am not sure what to do and the zerg ends up steam rolling me because they get enough time

WRONG.
Playing against the AI can be very helpful, especially when trying to optimize an opening as P or T. It can be good for very basic mechanics like familiarizing yourself with keybinds and hotkeys, and since this is a beginner, that kind of practice can be helpful. Don't be so condescending and arrogant.

If you haven't played a particular BO before and need to get a feel for the early build, use a BO-testing map or play without opponent.
This isn't what he asked though, he wanted to practice his macro.
Faulty advice in a strategy forum needs to be pointed out, or else the forum loses its purpose.

When I play a 1/1/1 all-in TvP, is the scouting with the hellion instead of the scv a tell that the 1/1/1 is coming?
