Been having this problem alot lately! By poking up the ramp at maybe 5 min mark you can roughly guess by what units he has. You can poke with your probe, or zealot+stalker. Until observer that is the only scouting you can get. But with practice and replay analysis you will learn how to read your opponents builds just looking at his units. Or at least you will narrow the possibilities.

Just to add: Lair + Spire both take a while to get, it should be pretty obvious that your opponent is going for something weird (like 1base mutas) if you see no expansion going up at all.

Which isnt the worst thing i suppose, but whats the most efficient way of figuring out how many probes i have so i can force myself to break the habit of 4-e 4-e 4-e? control click at each mineral line of each base add up with 1 extra for each extracter I.E say you have 20 at b1, 22 at base 2, 13 at base 3 , and 18 at base 4 and have gases at each that 18+20+22+13+8 then you have 81 probes(i believe is to much but ima zerg so idk)

Boxing and learning to count probes is obviously the best straight forward way, but fleshing out complete builds reduces the need.

How many drones do u want to see on 1 base before you rally them to the next, I guess its like 2 and a half rows (20) ? 2 lines, maybe a few extra. When you have that you know that it is time to expand.

Optimal mining rate is with 2 workers per patch --> 16 + 6 = 22 workers which is 2 lines + 4 workers when you box all workers (2 are in the extractors) Saturation is at 2 workers per close patch and 3 per far patch which on most maps gives you --> 16 + 6 + 6 = 28 workers = 3 lines + 2 workers boxed.

![]() I'm a relatively new player, and I'm practicing a lot to prepare for my placement matches. I started out as a terran player, and have switched back and forth between terran and protoss. I recently started playing zerg in some fun games. So my question, is it worth it to play random as a race, and what is different about playing random as opposed to playing a specific race. Keep in mind that I don't expect to place higher than gold as of now, so I would probably be playing in some of the lower ranks until I move up. Thanks a million :D EDIT: I realized this is a bit of a long question, not a short question as the thread implies. If I need to move this, please let me know. Thanks again :D

Q: Is it worth it to play random as a race? A; The only measure of worth in a video game is how much fun you have playing it. Q: What is different about playing random as opposed to playing a specific race. A: The only "advantage" you gain in playing random is the brief period of time when you opponent doesn't know what race he is up against. The disadvantage is that you have to learn every single match up which normally means a bit slower progression in skill. The bottom line is do whatever is the most fun for you because there are no substantial advantages playing as random instead of a single race. There is a reason why you don't see random players at the highest levels of professional play. Also, Welcome to TL ![]() Edited.

I haven't seen any Terrans providing the same level of in depth analysis as Artosis. There are a few who seem to do more of it than most though. I've heard Avilo do some, Sterling does a bit, and Ruff also talks quite a bit. Hope that helps.

And no offense, but I have fun when I am doing well, so that is why I'm striving to get better, I.E. why I asked for advice. Thanks for the response though :D

Thanks for the response though :D I guess I don't understand what advice you are looking for exactly. If you're looking to be as good as you can be as fast as possible then I'd suggest not going random and sticking with just 1 race. As far as which race is best, it is different for everybody. I found Terran to be the easiest by far to get up to diamond. Elaborate a bit for me. I wanna help if I can, but I don't understand what other information you are looking for <3

You can also hold shift and hit F, but that can cause some problems if you've given the sentries a move or an amove command already.
