The short answer is, yes you can do that so long as you do it carefully. + Show Spoiler [The Longer Answer] + Placing some strategically placed Pylons can be a great way to get sight of new expansions or incoming drops or even to catch sight of an army moving below a high ground location. The advantage Zerg having though in doing it with Overlords is they can be moved and so aren't so likely to die, and you don't want to lose your supply repeatedly for nothing. If you do place them around the map, remember that it's making your supply more open so you need to know why you're placing a Pylon down somewhere. A small corner of land a drop is likely to go over for instance might be a great place, or in a corner just in vision of a Zerg's 3rd/4th base could also be strong. Sometimes placement might be somewhere closer to you that is more likely to be safe by virtue of positioning but as well as giving some vision can be used as a forward Pylon should a fight begin around there. So yeah, if you are going to do it, make sure that you're likely going to gain something for it rather than just putting them around where you're going to lose 100 minerals.

I'm not sure if there's somewhere specific to find out but as they only lock them during the last couple of weeks a season if you visit battle.net and click to the starcraft 2 portal, you'll see a list of recent blogs, and seasons ending is always in that list when it's coming up. If someone else knows if there's a better way to see if the seasons are locked though I'd be interested in knowing to as I've never really thought about that being a really bad solution before.

If you know hes going forge expand for sure, take your third as your first expand, and throw down your pool. get 4 lings out to kill the pylon asap, continue droning. Once you've killed the pylon check around your third for any pylons and probes. grab your natural expansion once youve droned up a bit. scout as best you can. If you're not sure what hes doing throw down a evo for a few spores. Other than that, dronedronedronedrone. Toss virtually has two options for aggression after a forge expand. VR's, or some sort of +1 6-8 gate. Either with a bunch of sentries or blink stalkers usually.

You really should 11overpool 18hatch vs toss, it will help you get that pylon down superfast, AND get an early queen AND deny scouting AND make him build cannons if he's ForgeFEing get 10 drones, then do the extractor trick for an 11th then overlord as soon as you can afford it, on 11/10 food then pool at 11/10 when you have the money for it drone until 15 15 - queen 17 - 1 pair of zerglings 18 save for hatch, don't get overlord until you start hatch

If there isn't a third you can take on the map in particular, than it is probably just a bad map but you can still deal with taking your expo late and make just drones for a while.

how do you stop a zerg who is all inning you with speedlings after doing a speedling 21 expand? (AKA, he builds no drones, and pure speedling after the expo goes down). I can't seem to see any way to scout this happening and have sufficient time to prepare for it.

Siege tanks splash damage everything in the radius, while most other splash damage units, like banelings, colossi, hellions, etc only splash the enemy. Now if you attack your own unit, will the splash affect enemy units? Yes. One pro used a hellion to shoot another hellion to kill an invisible creep tumor IIRC.

Whatever works better for you; It takes extra keystrokes if you have them all on one hotkey and you can't split rally points, but it might be hard to reach 6 or 7 in a hurry during battle etc. I would personally set aside a control group for Ebay/armory/Techlabs/ghostacademies as well so you can check on upgrades and upgrade more stuff without looking around for your structures. customizing your hotkeys to move a control group over from 0 to ~ is pretty normal as well.

For instance Refinery (2) is your second refinery.

I'm just wondering, as a zerg, is there a way to maximize my army efficiency besides flanking/targeting.

In about half of the cases, I'm doubling their production, but, I just can't seem to make the most of my army in situations, people used to say, "just macro, youll beat your opponent no matter what" but that doesnt seem to be the case, when I'm doubling their macro and still losing. Consider also counterattacking and harassing using units like banelings, speedlings, and mutalisks. We'll need more details to help more.

I wasn't sure if I was allowed to post replays in this thread; but here are a couple of examples: First Game: http://www.mediafire.com/?z6t371bs756rvdv My Minerals/Gas spent: 85475/36475 His Minerals/Gas: 42975/14750 Second Game: http://www.mediafire.com/?rbs3b3s2bxx9xq3 My Minerals/Gas: 53475/14825 His Minerals/Gas: 30175/10175 This happens quite frequently in ZvZ too, but I feel in ZvZ I just lose more often because of composition, more than anything. TvZ I generally win at my level, unless I get 11/11'd by a lucky guess Terran >_>;;
