I use Terran, if you had to indicate where my skill level is, let me tell you that my PROUDEST moment in this game was when someone tried to cheese me and I flew my barracks to their base and narrowly beat them to a base race. I'm sure you guys can understand how bad I am lol.
Anyway, simple question:
what are general things that should be hotkeyed? I see all these videos of people with their screens FLYING around places and I'm just sitting there amazed. I usually have my main command center for scvs, and my production buildings. I rarely get passed M/M/M in most games so I don't really know..
1)cc 2)barracks, 3) scouting unit 4) ??
My hotkeys are 1 - OC's (all of them) 2 - Rax 3 - Starports 4 - Factories 5 - Army 6 - Scouting unit early on but then eventually a smaller 2nd force 7 - PF's (if any)
As far as I'm concerned it's how you get used to playing with your own hotkeys. Find out what works for you then use them.

No, but turret detection range is already pretty long -- 11. the shooting range remains shorter than the detection range even with the upgrade.

Keep in mind that every warpgate cycle, each warpgate produces 2 food, since every protoss warpgate unit costs 2 food. assuming you're making zeals, stalkers and sentries, make 1 pylon for every 4 warpgates you have every warpgate cycle. If you're constantly producing probes, you'll also need 1 pylon every 2 minutes for each nexus you have producing probes.
The best way to learn how to do this is to set aside an hour to practice your basic macro. Play a 1v1 with an easy comp for 7 minutes and try not to get supply blocked. Repeat 8-9 times until you've gotten the hang of it.

The 10 minute timing is so difficult I can't stop Terran from containing me at my natural. If I favor blings Terran spreads his marines and his tanks end me. If I favor mutas eventually he can reinforce his push with so many marines that my mutas are worthless.
I'm doing something wrong. Can someone point me to a thread on how to do it right?
It's possible you might want to delay your mutas until after that timing attack, since the costs involved are enormous.
Some tips for dealing with a marine tank attack from terran:
Creep spread forces him to stop and clear out the tumors. The further your creep is spread by the time he pushes out, the longer it will take him to reach you.
Use many banelings and zerglings. Zerglings with speed work well against tanks, and banelings with speed on creep are very fast. Make sure you have enough zerglings.
A small group of zerglings can run around behind his push and prevent reinforcements from coming in quickly (he will have to mass up a little at his natural then send them to meet his main force)
Try to engage him when he's partially or wholly unsieged. Furthermore, try to get him to siege up and slow down unnecessarily. Once you have enough zerglings and banelings, engage him on creep.

As a Terran player, am I supposed to place massive amounts of pressure on the opponent early game with marines? I've just started playing 1v1, got placed in gold, then proceeded to be demolished 5 times a row. If I do have to place pressure, about how many marines should I have?

thanks for reminding me about that... i guess when I play 1v1 I just get so nervous for some reason, that I totally blank out, then go the wrong build.
I gotta learn Terran, their playstyle is completely different from what I'm used to, time to check out the practice partners thread
and i suppose vs zerg i go early pressure with ~8 marines then fast expand?

Timings with a 2 rax attack include when you have 3 marines (2-shotting zerglings) and when you have 7 marines (1-shotting zerglings). you'll always have an odd number of marines since you start your 2nd rax after your first, or else you would push with just 6 marines.
2 Rax Pressure FE (vs. Zerg)

1)cc 2)barracks, 3) scouting unit 4) ?? i'm only diamond but
1. CCs 2. all production, tab through them. 3. whole army - vikings/ghosts/raven 4. tanks/floating factory (against protoss) 5. vikings (so i don't kite my vikings with my MMM ball)/ghosts/raven/marines (to run only them away against banelings and not run my thors away like a moron) 6. vikings/ghosts/raven/marines/misc 7. misc: some SCVs for depots (trying to do this more, F1 on a mac is brightness, not idle workers, afaik), scout, dropship 8. misc 9. supply depots at my front against Z 0. all upgrades: ebay/armory/tech lab/ghost academy/fusion core (lol)

i think you're thinking of the game in the wrong way. if your opponent fast expands, then yeah you need to pressure or do economic damage (banshee, hellion). if you don't do anything about him, he will eventually overwhelm you with a bigger army. if YOU fast expand, then YOU need to defend. you can't pressure too much because you spent money on a CC and not units/rax/etc. and you floated high minerals to get to 400. you need to defend up to a certain point when your economic advantage shows up in your army. and there is always a defenders' advantage whether because of faster reinforcements for your opponent, or because they have tanks, spines, etc. at least if you're terran.
against ZERG, you almost always need to pressure because they almost always fast expand, and because they can make more workers than any other race. but if zerg is one-basing you need to play somewhat defensive as you can bet a baneling bust or roaches are coming, and you need something besides marines to hold.
i almost always fast expand, and am usually the one playing defensive in the early game. it'd be silly for me to get aggressive in most early game situations.

Why do some pros not mine the middle minerals at the beginning of the game?

what should i do if my forge fe gets blocked by a proxy hatch?

The auto-repair trick with medivacs (auto-repair on with scv's inside repairs the medivac)
Does it work with Planetary Fortresses as well?

Does it work with Planetary Fortresses as well? pretty sure scvs inside the medivac only repair the units inside. scvs don't repair bunkers when they're inside, i know that. so no. there's also unit tester..

You could lay down a cannon anyways and use it to kill the proxy hatch. Begin the cannon when the hatchery is 70 seconds done, so that you have a few seconds after the hatchery finishes to cancel your cannon in case he cancels his hatchery. From this point, you want to start making gateways and taking your gas, and expo when he cancels.

I haven't tried this in-game, but according to the SC2 Editor the only "unit" ability a bunker with dudes in it has is a Stimpack redirect.
So, no. Going to check this in-game to confirm.

minerals on the side are slightly closer, so you get a slightly increased income.
