Playable bounds must be at least twice as long as they are wide, or vice versa.
Process Send your idea for an interesting topic to the event's administrator via a private message to The_Templar. Two topics are randomly selected using randomizer.org at the start of the event, and then immediately made official. This way, no "cheating" can occur, and the administrator can technically participate as well.
Make sure you read the How does it work? section as well and feel free to ask additional questions in this thread.
FAQ:
What is the Map Jam & Challenge? The Map Jam & Challenge is a format by and for the community. The Map Jam & Challenge is a regular map making competition. The Map Jam & Challenge wants you to be creative and quick. The Map Jam & Challenge provokes thinking outside the box.
This is a format developed collaboratively by Samro and Scorp, and was motivated by MotM, CSL Map Jam and the Map Making Challenge.
Why do this? It is all about challenging your fellow map makers with some strange idea and together do a 24h map making jam that will produce innovative, fun and crazy maps. From this format ideas may emerge that can be implemented to competitive maps - or maybe not. There is nothing to win like beta keys, sorry for that. I have no give aways, no tshirts. Also I do not own this format. This is an idea that i hope can be run by the community itself, without judges, organization, etc.
I know many will appreciate this. Here it is all about making maps. These may or may not be played. This is not the biggest point. We are looking for new ideas in maps and for new ways to make maps.
How does it work?
Runs monthly.
24 hours to allow all timezones a few hours. Is held in the weekend to allow the most people to participate.
All participants send one topic to the admin via PM, e.g. 'rocks' and 'low main'.
By a randomized process two topics are selected among all entries and made public to start the Map Jam & Challenge. This aspects helps to have no 'cheating' like preparing a map to give yourself more time.
Within the 24 hours participants post the overview in this thread and upload their map to EU/NA (ask your fellow map makers at EU/NA)
Public Vote decides on the winning map. Map makers who think they have the edge in evaluating how good a map is, can message the admin with their choice to have a double-vote.
Win = Fun & Fame
Map Jam & Challenge #15 The Map Jam & Challenge starts Saturday, Nov 15 4:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) and runs 24 hours. Topics need to be sent to The_Templar via PM until one hour before the challenge starts. This gives the admin one hour to randomly select the double-topic. Via PM we will keep all ideas secret and fresh for the next round maybe and the double-topic is quite a surprise for everyone.
Topics will be announced in this thread.
The previous events were administrated by The_Templar, Scorp, Samro, and RFDaemoniac. In future events, other community members may administrate as well. If you are interested in administration please notify the admin of the most recent map jam.
So this will be my first map jam. My topic was kinda imba now that I think about it...eh maybe not. idk how well I can make a map in 1 day. Textures are bound to be bad...nothing Protoss decals can't fix I guess.

Welcome to map jam, where two imba topics come together to make maps that make genuinely no sense but still look amazing.

Already going to look better then a templar map! :DDDDDDDD

Map jam #7 had my favorite topic in it: Based on a Magic: the Gathering card. I would constantly submit that, but as evidenced by how that jam played out not everyone plays/played Magic.

The battle is on! Templar is mad! Better watch out Sweden, the gloves are off! :D
The texturing/doodading I did in one of my recent WIP (it's the latest page in the WIP Thread)maps was done in about a half hour. It's still WIP but I think it's pretty good. But as far as balance and playability I'm sure The_Templar can crush me... Can't wait to see though gl hf

Yes, mineral patches will be destroyed/erased if the rocks fall on them. Yes, the xel'naga tower will also be erased if the tower is destroyed. Rock leading to the third base have 400hp+2armor, i'm unsure if i should keep it as a x2 wide ramp tho, it may be too easy to break and get into the nat, it still is a MJC map :b
They said not to worry about balance. So I made an Island map.
Here goes my first Map Jam entry. Name- Uncharted Construct Published- NA Size (playable)- 92x192 bases-8 (8min, 2 gas) Gold mineral blocks have lowered amounts of resources. Its not a real island map, since there are 3 routs that are blocked by gold minerals (one thru the center, and another two that lead to possible outer bases). Base layout is pretty normal, other than the obvious, with each base having the normal amount of recourses. All in all its utterly awful. But its just for fun, so Better shots- + Show Spoiler +
Standard natural applies, can be walled at the ramp with 3 structures plus pylon & zealot. Zerg can wall to the high ground on just the hatch creep with 3 structures plus a spine and a queen or w/e.
All of the gold patches take 5 trips to deplete. The central geysers each have enough for 25 trips, so you can expedite the removal of some of the middle patches with the resource-switching trick.
If a rock tower is collapsed, the ramp to the 4th is completely blocked, and it both towers are down before any patches are mined out, there are no land routes to the opponent.
Good luck everyone! This set of maps looks really cool!
Looks like your suffering from that Mar Sara texture glitch Xeno. Other than that it looks good! Seems like an actual playable map (in comparison to mine )
Super busy with upcoming exams so I did something fast. I'll admit it's not the most original, I stole a couple ideas from pro maps, but it's the best I could do in a short amount of time.

I don't have access to a computer for quite a while, so updating the OP is going to be a bit delayed, but here's the poll

I don't know if I'm actually allowed to submit a map as i didn't send in a topic but, hey, making maps is fun so whatever.
Also, yay first post ever!
Welcome to the forums! :D I dig the main bases and the free-ish no-gas natural
Thanks for the welcome! For some reason the in-base-expand/kinda-third-base idea was the first that popped into my head when I read the mineral wall topic and then it turned out pretty nicely so I had to post it :D
Yay! Crumbling peaks wins! My map got 4th! GJ everyone Sorry I didn't PM! Was late while voting and couldn't make up my mind...and I forgot...Promise I will next time! + Show Spoiler +
