I've done the whole Copy>flip>Paste thing, but it's extremely hard to make it paste in the right spot.
Is there an easier way?

My personal suggestion is to copypasta small regions, and fill in the less detailed parts by hand. It's a lot easier to copy small chunks over unless you know the exact dimensions of the area you're copying. Usually when I'm designing a map to be reflected halves/quadrants, I find the exact centre of the map and mark the precise line.

I usually put a pylon down in the exact center of my map to make getting symmetry easier

later on you can just use previously copied terrain as a reference point and the "patch" becomes unnecessary. + Show Spoiler + ![]() ![]() took about 20 sec to make that map from selecting dimensions. you can do other symmetry easily as well + Show Spoiler + ![]() ![]() just be prepared to spam ctrl-z and ctrl-v plus the rotating/flipping shortcuts a lot.

For the by hand method, though, go to view>grid>small and then you can see exactly where the other half needs to go. Also, make sure that you leave more open area at the top (or cut it out using map>map bounds) because there is a larger unplayable area at the top. Test where it is by trying to place minerals places and seeing where they turn red. Make half the map (approx, if you go over it's fine, just make sure the it's mirrored using the grid method). Make sure you are in the terrain layer and then copy that half of the map. Hit ctrl+v then go to edit>rotate>180degrees. Now zoom waaaay out so you can almost see the entire map. While moving where you are pasting around, you should see a large blue outline of a box. That's where you will be pasting. Line it up with the line of symmetry (the top edge of where you copied from) and line it up with the edges. Click and voila! a symmetrical map. Hope it helps... I should just make a video tutorial sometime....

Everyone knows symmetric maps are bad. + Show Spoiler + No, listen to them This guy knows what he's talking about. When was the last time you saw a symmetric map in the ladder pool? If you want to get noticed by Blizzard, you gotta make stuff to their standards.

To get that to work , you have to start your map by making 1 pool and take it from there. Its hard But doable.edit: this mostly counts for water in your map on lets say highgrounds or raised pools (see world tree for example)

First of all, you don't have to copy it before letting go of the mouse. It will copy the highlighted green area after you let go, too. Either way works, so it doesn't really matter, but I just wanted to clarify. Also, in the video you always pasted and then rotated. You can hit ctrl+v, then before you click anywhere go to edit>rotate>180degrees and then click and it will already be rotated. This really helps when flipping the map around because you can line it up exactly and then click and you won't have any of those lines in the center like in the tut. Overall, very nice tut though. Very easy to follow and great for an aspiring mapper. =D

This really streamlines your workflow when you have to do a map in sections because of shifted symmetry or territories that don't fit into rectangle selections, you can quickly ctrl+v, do your manipulation, click to place, ctrl+z if it wasn't right, repeat. If I'm not mistaken, number pad / and * are for rotate, and , and . are for flip

Copy it. 2 Click "alt"+"," and "alt"+"." to rotate it and then paste and click at the approximately right spot. 3. Now keep the mouse cursor in exactly the spot you just pasted and ctrl+z to undo the pasting. 4. Paste, adjust your mouse cursor position a little bit in the right direction and click. 5. Do 1-4 until everything is right. It's just a lot of trial and error, but you just need to click some buttons fast and then this is really really fast and easy ![]() The more annoying thing is replacing all those dumb broken ramps afterwards ![]()
