I really dont like Tal'darim Altar, too big and the rocks on the third was a mistake from blizzard. I think my fav 1v1 right now is backwater gulch for some reason. I wish it didnt have quite as many destructable rocks (again - blizzard!) but I really like the map. Have had some very fun games on it so far.

I think this way too. And, apart from other maps in the pool, Backwater Gulch remains macro oriented in both close positions and cross positions (apart from Shattered Temple, Slag Pits or Metalopolis, where you can't really take a third in close positions, unless it is very far away and very hard to defend). And the change made to the orientation of the ramp is a great change! Very underrated map imo.

The reason Slag Pits is considered a bad map is because of the very short rush distance, the very far away 3'rd base, the potential tank exploit of the main, the difficulty of dropping your opponent's base. Also it has a very disturbing color theme.

I don't like Delta Quadrant because of the color theme and the cliff above the 'protected' natural (similar to the old Lost Temple).

I dislike Scrap Station because of the close air distance (which limits your play somehow and instigates you to go for air) and the fact that the midgame also involves a potentially very close ground distance. So these two short distances makes it very hard for me to defend my natural from ground attacks, while defending my main for air harass and also securing a third. I also dislike the wide ramp at the main, which makes me very vulnerable to baneling busts.

Why do people vote Scrap good for Z? i mean its not that easy to hold 3rd and its quite far , and just small passways and not very good places for hidden bases.

adso: I said no to graphics mattering, but that's not because I don't prefer maps to look nice. It's because there's so much variation in the quality of maps between the best (Tal'darim, shakuras, XNC) and worst (DQ, scrap, slag) in the current map pool that map quality takes precedence over which one looks nicer in every case. If the maps were closer in quality and style of gameplay, then graphics might start to affect my preferences a bit, but for competitive games it'll always be more of a tie-breaker than a factor that could ever outweigh the mechanical aspects of the map.
Units don't counter units. Strategies counter strategies.

not surprised by Slag Pits not being voted very often, theres just something about that map i don't like, oh and the rush distance is lame.
if it wasnt for mules terrans would have to 15 hatch every game.

What do you mean by your style? Is it 4gate? Because I don't think that macro can be taken into account on this map.
