a mod like this going big with tournaments and leagues would be the only reason id buy sc2 at this point.

A game where the first thing you do is scout with a “worker”. Does that make any sense? Who scouts with a “worker”? That’s like sending out the janitor to perform recon, what general would do that? Retarded game.

Use the infestor modell as reaver and call it dark reaver! And if you change the broodling size you got you defiler going. Hope we will see some good old BW action soon.

I know theres a lot of hate towards us people who think SC2 should be Brood War with improvements and not what it is now, but after playing both games I really feel that Brood War still is more fun to play as a strategy game. With a little bit of tweaks to each race from BW and maybe an additional unit on each side I think SC2 would be a lot more interesting than it is now. Though I'm mostly disappointed with Zerg in SC2.

regarding vulture mines. i made it this way because in the campaign you would get your 10 vultures and have to select the target for each individual mine. i didn't like this. instead now you can select 10 vultures. send them to where you want your mines and hit mine and all 10 will drop a mine at their current location. i feel this better replicates the brood war style. im not sure if i can do this with a target. i'll have a second look at it however.

as for other units... it's kind of... hard without the model. i guess i can hack together a golden infestor for reaver and i have no clue what to use for the defiler.

Maybe use the melee unit in the campaign for the defiler?
Mapmaker & TLMC Judge. Amygdala, Frostline, Crimson Court, and Korhal Compound (WoL).

Regarding the Brood Lord, I believe the Swarm Guardian model, animations, and attack are still in the game files. If you were interested in bringing back the Guardian (in the form of the Swarm Guardian) it would be relatively easy to do so.

Also, I believe the Corsair has sounds and attack data in the game files as well. You could probably remake it using Urun's phoenix model. Dark Archon can just be a red tinted Archon.

Using the old Infestor to represent the Reaver would be kind of awkward. I'd just use the Colossus until we get an official Reaver model, or at least a model of relative high quality.

The Defiler can be just represented by the current Infestor for now. That AOE spell Kerrigan has (Razor Swarm, I think?) might make a decent Dark Swarm graphic.

No ideas for the Queen. Maybe the Overseer or the Leviathan as a placeholder, since the new Queen is a ground unit?

The mercenary Viking model (Hel's Angel) actually makes a damn decent Valkyrie replacement.

pretty good ideas. i think the brood lord shares the appearance of the guardian more than the swarm guardian does.

I originally did a mod in BETA where all the stats were changed back to broodwar, even had BW music and sounds, and other stuff like micro and different macro mechanics, it was also play tested with some of my mates, quite balanced (and more fun than vanilla SC2 IMO). We should combine our powers and make something awesome.

I think Blizzard should really make BW in better graphic in the future.

I am throughly enjoying SC2 at the moment but BW will forever be very special and its is something I never get sick of watching. Only downside of BW is its outdated (but still fine) graphic really.

BTW those lurker eggs look soooo sick.. god damn I miss them so much

ty. yea im pretty sure when blizzard made starcraft 2 they remade brood war first and then just started messing with it. theres just so much stuff thats carbon copy from brood war.

I would play it because I want to play BW with better pathing and graphics. I do see a problem in it gaining popularity but I would play it. Especially with Zerg being better.

yes well thats my main inspiration in doing this map
i dont like how zerg in starcraft have some of the slowest units in the game (roach/hydra) and their mobility seems to have dropped like a stone in water. apart from ling/muta/ultra.

i still love the game though and i eagerly await HotS to see what blizzard can do to rectify this.

I support this effort. Just keep in mind that there will most likely be a lot of problems in regards to the improved unit AIs. Zerglings, Tanks, Dragoons, and High Templar in particular will be much more powerful. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if ZvP was massively imbalanced in favor of Zerg simply because Zerg can use standard Savior builds without having to worry about the Bisu build because good-AI lings can destroy a fast Forge wall-in. Who knows, though. I might be wrong. Either way, this is a very worthwhile effort.

Given a new engine though, couldn't balance be thrown off quite a bit? Could you imagine BW zergling dps with SC2 zergling AI? People out just 5 pool again, just like in the good old days.

very valid concerns. wont know the result till it's done however im afraid. im fiddling around seeing if i can remake the reaver currently. my thoughts on it are that it would be OP as hell. but we'll see.

I am totally looking forward to this. Will definitely follow along your progress.

Firebats weren't so huge in BW (and perhaps some others), so maybe tweak those units' stats.
