[update] Xellos has unfortunately had to pull out, from what i know, it was not his fault but to other forces. Zeus and july are confirmed to play. (though zeus hasn't seen the maps afaik... babo tae gyu!!) Unfortunately SKT, KTF, GO, Pantec and Hanbit teams are all unavailable so that leaves only half of the teams to find a replacement from and 7 hours left to do it! I'll do my best, and if nobody else than ArtOfTerran will play. end update
StarCraft Mystery-Map Invitational: Match-ups Wednesday, February 23, 2005
We'd like to thank those who took the time to vote for their preferred match-ups on the Battle.net forums. Those votes and the preferences of the captains have been collated and run through our MVU system (see the F.A.Q. for an explanation). The match-ups are as follows:
(Team Europe) 3wD.Christian vs. LinYu)Pj (Team Asia) (Team Europe) Breakdown[pG] vs. ToT)SEn( (Team Asia) (Team Europe) ZelotITO[MA] vs. JulyZerg (Team Asia) (Team Europe) Fisheye[pG] vs. Xellos (Team Asia) (Team Europe) ToT)Mondragon( vs. Zeus (Team Asia)
Need i say more? I think not, thx blizz.
BTW. CAN A KOREAN TRANSLATE AND POST NEWS ABOUT THE MMI ON THE KOREAN WEBSITES
Team Asia Fighting or Korea Team Fighting (KTF ) b/c i don't care about sen and pj Nice MU's indeed. Asia 5:0 Europe (hoping for 3:2 b/c i don't want see Europe raped but i'm addicted to Korea)
I think July vs Zelo is Asia's only SURE match, if things go right europe MAY have a chance to take a couple more and win this thing I think Xellos vs Fish will look like wcg Midas vs Fish, I would switch Zelot and Fish but that's just me
Nice match ups. Like everyone else said switching beast with breakdown would have been better, but hey, I wont complain. Cant wait to see the games.GO Team Europe, even tho im from usa, represent!~ Europe 3-2 Asia
Coulthard I dunno why you think Pj will have a PvP?
Looks like 4-1 or 3-2 Asia's favor
(Team Europe) 3wD.Christian vs. LinYu)Pj (Team Asia) (Team Europe) Breakdown[pG] vs. ToT)SEn( (Team Asia) (Team Europe) ZelotITO[MA] vs. JulyZerg (Team Asia) (Team Europe) Fisheye[pG] vs. Xellos (Team Asia) (Team Europe) ToT)Mondragon( vs. Zeus (Team Asia)
I think Zeus has a >50% chance of winning vs Mondragon, but that match is most up for grabs I think (I was under the impression breakdown's ZvZ > Sen's, but I don't really know anything about Sen).

Seems about right, but I would be inclined to give Zeus/Mondi to Mondi just because it's a ZvP. If Mondi is capable of beating any of the pros on Asia Zeus is clearly his best shot.

Should be really cool. GO Europe!
umm where did you get the idea that zeus is "clearly" worse than christian, pj, or sen? ....
mondi vs zeus is definitely europe's best chance for a win, very smart by euro captain. since mondi is best on team europe and zeus probably worst on team asia, plus zvp. PJ will demolish beast pvt. the others, i think europe has somewhat of a chance. not much but who knows im routing for you europe!

zeus isn't worst on team Asia... SEn is. And I think Zeus > PJ...
btw... isn't pvz Zeus' best matchup? Or at least he had the best winning percentage vs zerg, but maybe he only met "bad" zergs... I dunno
i think that asi has some better players than zeus(now is death in leagues) PJ is good too but i dont know why arent there players as boxer ,nada ,gorush goodfriend or chojja ....... but its only my opinien ....
They couldn't get people like nada or boxer or chojja to play with their busy schedules and such. Korea isn't Asia by itself, there are other countries such as China which is represented by PJ.

Its cool that any pros are playing at all in such a small event. Plus July is #2 Kespa and I think Xellos is or 5 thx to wcg. plus he just raped boxer and oov.
i know it's too late for whining .. but I would rather have seen ret or nazgul instead of beast ;( (beast isn't a bad choice either and I like him, but ret is somehow scarier :O ) but i'm confident overall that it's gonna be a tough match. good luck to all.
why would you want fish vs july and zelot vs xellos? zelot is much worse pvt than pvz and imo, fish is significantly better pvt than pvz.
we don't really have any players capable of beating july. but zelot should produce better games than anyone else would. :p as for beast, I've seen him play pj once, he won tvp. I've seen him play sen in wcg and f2f, in wcg he won but in f2f he lost 0-5. and breakdown is very, very good zvz.
for anyone wondering yes these are the exact matchups that I wanted.
Can someone tell me the matchups? I'm a bit of a newb in this -_-
(Team Europe) 3wD.Christian vs. LinYu)Pj (Team Asia) --> ? v ? wow nice nice nice -- how is tot)sen('s zvz? ;o People seem to think zeus is not a quality player.. i dont see why. zeus could beat july and xellos on any given day

3 guranteed victorys and 2 in their favor for asia.. contrary to popular belief this is going to be 5-0. when it's over with. Sen is the only one with a more than remote chance of losing.
Most awaited matchup: Mondragon v Zeus we'll see how good mondi's Z does against a really good Protoss.. Not that mondi sucks or anything - - v I think Asia going to win all but Mondi's match.. Since ZvP is easy.. mondi stands the best chance at winning. Breakdown v SeN, that'll be a ZvZ?
as crazy as i sound i think europe's only win may be mondi vs zeus... i duno i just think asia's just gonna take a game or two then run with it and stomp them... i just want xellos to 2-0 fisheye... GOGO KOR
:DD i wish breakdown vs PJ tho i wanted to see some art tvz :[ and i wanted to see beasts tvz vs sens ^^. o well their not that bad i got most of what i wanted and itll be interesting to see Beast tvp PJ ^^;;
If europe do some practice and come up with some good map specific strats they could win. Remember july might have 1-2 games practice on the maps, but more likely will just pass them onto bejjang for him to see how they play, then ask for advice. The other pros i dont know, depending on what other competitions they have.
New maps, koreans will do far worse then normal, because they haven't done or seen everyone do different things on it. Still they have the higher skill so they are still fractionally ahead.
If i hadn't got those pros i probably would have fought for other match ups, but i'm happy for euro to get their best 5 match ups.
Now all i have to do is sit back and relax and wait for some great games. Unless of couse one of them doesn't show, then i may have to strangle someone.
hmm, interesting. As for someone wanting Beast vs Xellos, before WCG last year Beast said he would beat Xellos. Xellos dismantled him. TvP is Xellos's weakest matchup, but thats not saying Fisheye has the level of PvT to beat him.
Pj maybe isnt at good level because of lack of practice thesedays. Its spring festival in china. he hasnt touch keyboard for a MONTH or more except for a small tourney of 3 days. but still i believe in him.

i know. Pj seems kind of rusty in his game vs hbq on yaoyuan where he got owned 2-0.
ok if mondragon wins it will bring me into 'respect' mode for him , not to say right now there is no meat, just that this will further confirm it. but however i do hope it will turn out to be a spectacular game ending with Zeus laying down with authority, as frankly, Zeus is not Reach or Nal_rA, but he is just a sex machine by himself. Even regarded by most to be top 5 protoss in the world, he still at times does not get recognition
It's true I don't get the hate. The simple fact that he placed the highest out of all foreigners at WCG means everyone should be quiet because he deserves his spot.
Leg, what's the point in you being tam captain if you don't get to play? Is it just a nice term for 'substitute'? Did you organise the team Asia player? or did Blizzard sort it out?
I got the players of course. Being also the reason i was the captain, (apart from being a kangaroo loving, crocodile wrestling aussie) i have contacts.
not bad matchups beast vs pj I think beast might has some chance against pj as pj isn't so hot right now (compared to himself) breakdown vs sen I cant comment I dont know shit about zvz zelo vs july I think this is the most obvious. that zelo doesnt really have any chance fisheye vs xellos well if fisheye can suprise xellos with unorthodox strats he has chance but I dont see him winning in a bythebook series xellos is too machine for that mondragon vs zeus I think it depends on the maps if they favour zerg then mondi will win imho (dunno if thats the case I havent seen the maps)
Guys ,stop all this hate towards Beast.PJ IS NOT THAT GOOD PLAYER!!!! And Beast has top 3 european TvP ,so its very wise descision from Drone.Sen or Xellos would have killed Beast.PJ is nothing special.
i think beast has a chance to beat PJ ..Hopefully if he practices ;DD gL Beast!! However PJ IS hot for those of u who say he isnt...did u guys forget he is chinese pro gamer? Hes better than TheSuper whos beaten boxer in the past. however this in no way means beast doesnt stand a chance, just show PJ some art tvp ^^ . GL to the rest of europe also
The age old choice of honey or the stick! Good or evil! Bwuhahahahahaha what do you think the fearless LOL used!!
... uhhh.. but seriously... well.. you see,...
I am but a pathetic minion in their eyes, if i used the whip on xellos he would rip it out of my hands and sodomise me with it T_T
Thus my only choice was large quantities of honey as bribes.
July is in practice mode for his game tommorrow (oh no its 12:03 so its today now!) thus he wont be playing on the maps until tommorrow (match day) at best. Zeus and xellos should have received my translated korean info by now, no idea if they have played on them as of yet, sort of hope so but doubt it, probably stick in a few games tommorrow and game day... i hope.. PJ and RRB no idea.
somehow I'm think all the korean progamers will play the maps as much as they can (meaning every important league practice will come first but whenever they have spare time they might play some on them). this just seems to be organized in such a way that it doesn't sound like a random meaningless tournament. even though there's no prizes look at all the exposure it's getting.
zeus will proxy gate and have his zealots get stuck ^_^
On February 24 2005 08:10 KorvspaD wrote: I find it funny how alot of pple think mondi will beat zeus cause zvp is easy, and then say zelo has a chance vs july =/
=D I don't think anyone suspects zelotito can beat july, just that they *could* be entertaining games. mondragon has a marginal chance of winning but kingdom has beaten zergs like yellow, july, jju, junwi etc - who are all far above mondragons level.
The Match ups are wonderful Its the perfect mix between good match ups and better chances to win for europe !
I think some of you dont realize how strong fisheyes pvt is. I think for example, that he would have good chances if the maps are balanced. He can beat many korean terrans on maps like LT/Nostalgia/Gaema..
but on the new maps it depends on his prepearation
those players are not far above mondragons level in zvp. also naz it was kingdom who did that and there aren't really anyone who expects zelotito to beat july. but taking one out of 3 games? sure that might happen.

But how do koreans know about this? i haven't seen a single message on a korean forum, or a single korean mention it to me, unless i've mentioned it to them first. Learn to read smart guy. Are Beast, PJ and Sen Pro gamers? You have a terrible habit of trying to shoot everyone down just for the sake of being a jack ass and this is at least the 5th time you've done it to me.
Obviously Mondi would have a better chance against a foreigner, anyone would, but putting the MVP of Europe against anyone but one of the pros makes no sense.
Eri made best job of selecting matches ever, Europe is going to win.. All must understand that koreans dont know the maps and dont have the best strategies like on for example nostalgia or so. 3-2 or 4-1 win for Europe i guess and hope

while i wouldn't say it's "no" news-- there are some people who know about the MMI (there are a few posts here and there on bwtimes.net and pgr21.com), but i would agree it's much more of an event for the non-korean community (for good reason). in some ways it's not that different from wcg o_o. the few posts i did see, the comments were mostly similar to comments here, except of course everyone is rooting for the asia team ^^;; and mondragon seems to be pretty known now, probably due to the ToT clanwars. so clearly zeus v mondragon will be the most watched mu imo in korea and abroad -_-
some people are underrating zeus me thinking mondi has a good chance of beating him has nothing to do with underrating zeus though. you could argue that I might be overrating mondi, but in my opinion his zvp is just as good as the average korean progamer zvp.
basically even if he was playing reach or nalra I would still give him a fair shot at winning.
Fighterforum.com rang up asking for info about the blizzard MMI tourney, then i (think) they rang up xellos's manager and were asking him about it, then they were saying xellos wasn't playing in it. I dont know if this is because xellos changed his mind and didn't tell me or his manager doesn't know that he is playing in it. Either way xellos isn't online and his email isn't useable with MSN messenger. I asked foru to track him down for me but no luck with that so far.
On top of that my nets been cutting in and out all day, i dont have a valid cd key thanks to brian deleting my old one, so i spent 2 hours before testing ones that were posted online but most are either banned or are being used on every server. (and noones at my cousins house in aus, to get my original cd key from there!)
And finally, zeus MSN is fine, but he doesn't actually use his HOTMAIL thats connected with it (which i didn't realize until i tried to send him the details of the maps/matchup/srules etc) and now he is MIA and his team says he isn't at their place, so he is somewhere in never never land throwing lightning bolts around for all i know.
I dunno maybe its just nothing and it will all work, but its frustrating as hell.

This reminds me of when Burns brought in the MLB ringers in the Simpsons to win the Nuclear Softball league, and then the night before the final Ken Griffey got giganticism, Ozzie Smith fell into a black hole, Jose Conseco was stuck helping a lady with her burning house, and Steve Sax was arrested for every unsolved murder in NYC.
I know a lot of people are saying Mondi will beat Zeus, but...Zeus isn't a progamer for nothing...Mondi's good, but his chances are still small. I think that as long as Zeus takes this seriously, Mondi's gonna have trouble.

yeah I dont understand why ppl say Eu will go with 2-0 Mondi vs Zeus and Break's ..it sounds like Zeus is the foreign and Mondi the gosu one Mondi is in my opinio no1 maybe with fisheye in Europe but Zeus is Zeus.He just need to check the maps and takes it serioulsy fgs. Where are the games??? A friend of mine said the are playing now but I thought it was tomorrow plz someone tell us the exactly time ? thx
Xellos has pulled out, apparently his manager said he couldn't play. Which rules out any teammates i was hoping for in case of a replacement so no midas as well as foru who was my backup in case zeus didn't show(he is still MIA).
That sucks really bad. Trying to find a replacement now, but i only just spoke to xellos 30 mins ago, and its now 2am so most players aren't on. Which leaves tommorrow, ...
pusan was my first choice until i got xellos and decided to go for an allstar team. But he has dual league on the 4th? or something thus he doesn't want to play in anything else.
If zeus falls through, i can't get any of the top tier toss players as GO wont give me foru, SKT and KTF are impossible so that rules out the 3 others.
That would only leave me a 2nd tier, and ppl would probably want stork[hyo] the most or breeze i guess. Trying to talk to stork now, but he has starleague soon so i dont know. [update] he can't he has his starleague match on the 4th. Still hoping zeus will turn up tommorrow though.
I can't get iloveoov or nada. or anyone else in pantec, hanbit, skt, or ktf. The latter 2 i've explained, the former 2, well the reason zeus agreed to play was because they didn't make it to the finals of the SKY OGN Pro league, which is on the same day/time as the MMI. Hanbit was the team that defeated Kor to make zeus available in the first place! And they are meeting up against Pantec.
So that added in with GO, takes out half of all available players to pick from, and almost all of the top ones! ARGH!
No stress Leg^^ an all-star team was over all expectations. I would be very happy to see any Progamers actually. But anyway a GG is everything that matters not the names.
btw somehow I have the impression xellos was going to play MMI for fun without telling the manager about it and then the manager "adviced" him not to play. T_T
wow that really sucks, i wanted to see fisheye pvt. hopefully he will atlleast be pvt or pvz against whoever replaces xellos, i'd hate to see pvp kind of a waste of a chance for a great game.

That would only leave me a 2nd tier, and ppl would probably want stork[hyo] the most or breeze i guess. Trying to talk to stork now, but he has starleague soon so i dont know. [update] he can't he has his starleague match on the 4th. Still hoping zeus will turn up tommorrow though.
i dont understand stork is seeded for next osl and you said that in march there was more or less a pause in progaming what starleague are you talking about? msl is finished too minor msl still running or sth? i dont get it
But back on topic though, assuming Zeus is still in, he said in the interview that was posted in the BW forum today that he is most confident against Zergs even though his best record is vs. Terrans.
I've never heard a Toss say that before...weird...
im starting to think julyzerg as the best progamer in korea , not only because of hes skill , but of hes manner , hes the only korean to really enjoy playing other guys , even tho he would own them. From now on , julyzerg over anyone in any korean league :D
So if xellos and zeus turned down their spot, this leaves zealotito having to deal with the ugliest guy of team asia, since leg said it will be hard to get any top tier pro gamers in substituion for xellos and zeus. Funny cause some ppl were expecting a 4-1 for asia, this could turn to be a 4-1 to europe, assuming zelotito wont pull out a miracleous game to win over july.
Legionnaire(leader) should play instead of xellos and i think it is one of the rules ^_^v i believe he recently won p v p 2-1 against korean gamer in MSL. If he gets to play, he should think about the previous Face to Face against Fisheye[pG], even though i know he lost because he didn't play seriously. show your true gosuness leg!

LOL, I said i WOULD beat him?I was fairly certain i could beat him and my opinion hasn't changed. But of course i won't be a favourite in such a match..
I'm fairly certain you said you would. But its all in the past so whatever
yes zeus is in. he just went off to do something or other and had planned to come back on the date i guess... no idea really, but he arrived back to his teams place this morning.
Still got 6 or so hours left. Tell zeus to check his email. Mondi vs Zeus is definitely the most looked for match. It would suck is Zeus doesnt bring at least his B game today.
That was the whole problem in the first place, zeus MSN account didn't have hotmail attached to it, so i couldn't send him emails! Thus it was only when he was online. I did send an email to his daum website a few days back, but knowin how little koreans actually post on their sites i doubt he checks it.
If it makes you feel better the other day i asked mondragon about how his practice was goign and he said he couldn't really find anyon ethat would give him practice vs zeus. so that will even it up!

ok, i recently was watching his pvp's. seems he's addicted to teching and in all pvps that i was watching he always took his exp a little later than his opponent. when he's left alone he's massing like hell. Fisheye just outsmart him.

hi everyone, i am chinese, i had seen every rep of PJ's PVT posted on yaoyuan.com. PJ's pvt is his best MU, even Nada asked him for practice, so i think Beast would be in danger.... As i am in germany now, i hope mondi would win, as to fisheye...he is a talent player with great macro, but Xellos might be too strong for him right now, as to Breakdown.....i dont know much, but i remembered i had seen his zvz vs july? got raped..... gogo europe~~gogo asia~~~~~ i predict 4:1 for asia
DAMN IT! why did it have to be pusan vs fisheye? another protoss, thats fucking awesome, but a pvp?? you guys should switch the matches..haha but i know the chances of that happening are slim to none fuck this sucks. pvp is the gayest match ever, and worst of all its the only toss match where the map means absolutely nothing. the games may as well be on lost temple now. FUCK!
should''ve just told july to bring a terran with him goddamn who the hell wants to see a pvp?

well its not like it *had* to be a progamer ;p there are lots of terrans in korea who would have a good chance of winning vs fisheye, pros and amateurs.

I do. And you can't say that the map means absolutly nothing. The player who will prepare the most on this map (Fisheye, probably ^^) will have an edge.
dear god, with the recent dropouts there are zero games featuring terran so far (maybe eri will spawn as terran in a delayed game) so I had to dissapoint the blizzard guy who i'd promised commentaries as I don't feel like I can make a worthwile commentary on a zvz/zvp/pvp match
