Introduction:


Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.

The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance.

Rules:


Cheating:
Cheating includes (but is not limited to):
1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information.
2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town.
3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role or looking over someone's shoulder to get their role.
4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles.
5. Posting screenshots of your inbox.
6. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host.
7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip.
8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts.
9. Betting items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits.
10. Sharing accounts with other players unless cleared by the host in advance. Otherwise, only you may post on your account.

Cheating is not tolerated here. The punishment will be severe.

Mod Font:
This is mod font. It is reserved for moderators. Please do not use it.

Question Font:
This is question font. You may use this font to ask the moderators anything BEFORE the game.

Absolutely do NOT ask any questions openly in thread in game as some questions may be alignment indicative.


Activity:
There is no activity requirement for this game. No warning / modkill will happen based on activity. One exception: spamming the game with the goal of having it unplayable for other players.

Smurfs/Hydras:
I will allow smurfing. Please send me a PM with who you are playing as. Hydras will not be permitted.

Post Restriction Rules:
There is no post-restriction for this game however, rules for spam are unchanged.

Spam is not tolerated, nor is any off-topic material. Do not discuss Proleague here. Do not talk about Starcraft II here. Play Mafia here. This also means you should condense your posts when possible. 15 one-liners in 30 minutes is unacceptable.

Encryption:
Don't do it.

Editing:
Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. If we discover you to have changed any content, you will be modkilled. This includes posts where you have embedded an image, changing the image is tantamount to changing the post. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again using the acronym (EBWOP: Edit by way of posting) if you want to clarify/correct something you just posted.

Inappropriate posts:
If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM a host or Foolishness before involving the TL staff. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can appeal to the TL staff normally.

Reporting posts:
The report button is a nice feature for regular TL, but not for this forum. We prefer to deal with things in house if possible to avoid confusion among the TL staff. If you have a problem with how someone is posting, talk to the host, co-host, or GMarshal before using your report button. Please do not use your report button for anything other than inappropriate posts which you feel are not being dealt with adequately.

Ban discussions:
Please wait until this game is over to talk about modkills and bans resulting from this game.

Play to win.
This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing.

This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without a ban. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. PM me or the co-host if you need to leave the game.

Voting rules:


This game uses plurality lynch. The player with most votes at deadline will be lynched. In the event of a tie, the first player to have attained the most votes will be lynched.
1. Voting is done in the dedicated voting thread found here.
2. Please vote in the following format: ##Vote Half the Sky. Votecounts will be made using the Xatalos' counter found here. Any vote not counted by Xatalos' counter will be regarded as not existing.
3. If you change your vote, please ##Unvote before posting another vote (can be done in the same post).
4. No conditional voting.
5. You may vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game.
6. You may not vote for a no-lynch.
7. Voting is mandatory. You may NOT abstain. Failure to vote will result in a modkill.

Signups and Wisdom of the Crowds:


Signups are open until all 13 spots are filled.

There is no minimum experience required for this game.

The hosts also reserve the right to deny participation to those individuals that are known to disrupt the playing experience for others. If we also receive more than five (behaviour based) objections on a specific player, we will most likely not allow that individual to play. We want everyone to have a positive experience playing on TL regardless of their skill level.

Game-specific rules:


Modkills:
This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you want to use this game to sit out your ban, please PM us and post in the Ban List.

Behaviour:
1. Simply put, do not be a dick. We will pre-warn, warn or modkill you if you approach or cross the line. I am specifically most against personal attacks. These games are meant to be fun for everyone; play the game, but don't ruin the experience.
2. Racist/homophobic/sexist commentary or similar will result in a direct modkill.
There is no place for such here, and success as any alignment can be done without.
3. Absolutely, positively, no discussion about other concurrent games in this thread. This can affect other games and is unacceptable. You may discuss players' activities external of TL Mafia, but do not discuss any play in any other ongoing game. Violation of this rule will result in a warning; subsequent offences will result in a modkill.

Replacements:
This game does not use remplacements. Exception might be made for exceptionnal circumstances.

Clues:
There are no clues.

PMs and Out-of-Thread Communication:
PMs are not allowed in this game, with the exception of the scumteam.
No out-of-thread communication of any sort is allowed for other players.
The scumteam will be provided a QT to communicate in. If scum decides to use other means on communication, they will have to log and post them in the QT.

Coaches:
Because there is a newbie game in progress, there are no coaches allowed for this game.

Shadows:
I will permit shadows this game. If you shadow a player, I will provide a separate QT for you and your shadow. If your player happens to RNG into the scumteam, you will not have access to scum QT.

Observers:
Please PM the hosts for the Observer QT once the game has started, otherwise, type /obs in the signup thread.

Time Cycle:
This game will follow a 24 hour night/48 hour day-cycle.
The deadline is 21:00 GMT (+00:00).
Please note the deadline is xx:59 and I will not accept votes/actions at xx:00.
Do not post after the deadline. Any alignment relevant information posted after the deadline and before the flip will result in a modkill.
The game will resume when the night post is up.
There is no resolution period for night actions.
If at the start of the day, the number of town and mafia are equivalent, the day is skipped and the game goes directly into mafia victory (if the mafia win condition has been met) or the next night (if not).

Game Setup


This is an open setup. All roles and their numbers are known by all players.

Town

Win Condition: The town win when all members of the mafia are dead, or when the mafia concede.

Factory Worker (Vanilla Town):
You are a vanilla town. You must vote each day for someone to be lynched.

Mafia

Win Condition: The mafia win when all town members are dead, or nothing can prevent that from happening.

Chocolate Conspirator (Mafia Goon):
You are a mafia goon. You must vote each day for someone to be lynched. Each night, your team can kill 1 person of your choice.

Game specific rules

All rules are stated in the ruleset, in the spoiler at the end of the first post. However, I will restate the things that differ from usual. This does not dispense you from reading the whole ruleset.

1. The deadline is 21:00 GMT (+00:00).
2. Do not be a dick.
3. No replacements are allowed. Exceptions might be made for exceptionnal circumstances.
4. There is no actitivity requirement; no warning / modkill will be issued on activity.
5. No host / player interaction after the start of the game. PM any question you have to the hosts, and we will make a post about it if we feel all players needs to be aware of the answer. Do not talk about hosts interaction. If you post anything alignment-revelative relative to questions / hosts interaction in thread, you will be modkilled, even if it was a WIFOM attempt.
6. Coaches and hydras are not allowed. Smurfs and shadows are allowed if the hosts are aware of it.
7. No lynch is not allowed. Self voting is allowed. Mafia not using their shot is allowed.
8. Vote / action deadline is XX:59. Any vote / action made at XX:00 is invalid.
9. Voting will be done in the dedicated voting thread found here. Votecounts will be made using the Xatalos' counter found here. Any vote not counted by Xatalos' counter will be regarded as not existing. You will be directly modkilled if you fail to vote.

Finally, a friendly advice from friendly hosts:
You cannot rely on blues or fakeclaims to win this game. If you become inactive, you might lose the game for your team. Think about it before signing up.

what vig ? p:
10v3 only kill power are 1 lynch / day + 1 mafia KP / night
so whatever happen, 4 ML are required for town to lose, if mafia shoot every night like they should

Well, there were a good amount of discussion in the TL idea factory thread, starting here if you wanna see some stats
I wanted to do 10v3 all vanilla initially but it was too mafia favored; apparently the "proved" setup is 10v3 one cop with N0 check on a townie. That seemed very town favored though

Normally speaking 2 town die D1 and N1. Mafia killing blue N1 or Town killing mafia D1 are game changers that swing the game extremely in that teams favor. Town killing mafia sounds more likely than mafia shooting blue? Not sure.

D2:
7 vs 3 with 2 confirmed townies is a pain to play for mafia. They still have to lynch 3 people to win while they can only shoot confirmed townies following nights. Mafia needs a carry that is considered townie and busses pretty good.



I don't see town ml 4 times in a row when they have 2 confirmed townies. The info will be too good for town during this game.

Don't think it is unbalanced.

8V3 with 2 confirmed townie is the likely scenario: that means mafia needs to mislynch 3 players in a 6 players pool. It is possible. Maybe it will be, as you said, a pain in the ass p: but this game is designed for both alignement to not be lazy. With no alignement detection after D2, mafia can take control of the town and win from there.

The goal is to allow the town to have one super inactive / scummy player not be auto lynched, as apparently it is the problem in 10v3 all vanilla
I see the problem with the cop being a confirmed townie too
Mm. A solution could be to have all town being vanilla, with the ability to vote for a target N1; the vote would be made by PM, so secret. The alignement of that person would be revealed at the start of D2. So town would have a cop check without a confirmed townie being cop
