Game name + Show Spoiler [Important Posts] +
Introduction: Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.
The game is typically very active, so the thread will get big quickly. However, it is essential to read the thread to play the game. If you do not have the time or patience to read the whole thread, do not play. I will not compensate for ignorance.
Rules: Cheating: Cheating includes (but is not limited to): 1. Posting after death. You may have one polite goodbye post, but it may not contain any potentially game-changing information. 2. Ruining the game by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town. 3. Logging on to someone else's account / looking over someone's shoulder to get their role. 4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles. 5. Posting screenshots of your inbox. 6. Posting any PM you receive from a host. 7. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip. 8. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts. Cheating is not tolerated here. The punishment will be severe.
Posting: Mod Font: This is mod font. It is reserved for moderators. Please do not use it or you risk modkill.
Question Font: This is question font. Use it to ask the moderators questions about the rules. Feel free to ask us anything, but do us a favor and read the rules before you ask.
Activity: You must post in this thread once per day/night cycle and vote every day while you are alive. If you fail to do so, you will be modkilled.
Spam: Spam is not tolerated, nor is any off-topic material. Do not discuss Proleague here. Do not talk about Starcraft II here. Play Mafia here.
Editing: Editing is not allowed for any reason. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be modkilled. This is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again if you have to edit anything
Inappropriate posts: If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with it elsewhere, don't post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. The hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If what you say is against the TL forum rules in general, we also reserve the right to call a TL mod down on your sorry ass.
Play to win.
You have been warned. + Show Spoiler +Something furry, angry, and life-ending this way comes.
Voting rules: 1. Voting is done in a separate thread, which will be created when this game starts. Please keep votes there, and only vote there. Do not PM me your vote. 2. Please vote in the following format: ##Vote Qatol. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. I will update vote counts whenever I get the chance. 3. No conditional voting. 4. You may not vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game. 5. In the event of a tie the person with the most votes first wins (or loses). 6. Voting is mandatory. You may NOT abstain.
Signups: This game is open to anyone regardless of experience. Signups will remain open until all 40 spots have been filled.
Game-specific rules: Modkills: This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, your punishment will go beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to it for questions about your punishment. If you wish to contest a modkill, please do so in the Ban Thread, do not continue to post in this thread.
Clues: There are no clues.
PMs PMs are not allowed in this game unless your role allows for it.
Time Cycle: This game will follow a 24 hour night/48 hour day cycle. In case I am not able to post around deadline, any votes after the 48 hour mark will not count and the game will be put on halt until the night post is up. Currently the deadline is 1 AM, US East Time, but that is subject to change.
Credits: Thanks to anyone who has ever hosted a game. This list grows ever longer. Thanks to everyone who helped balance this game. Specific thanks to Qatol and Ver for balancing this game. You guys rule. Thanks again to Qatol for providing the Mafia OP 2.0
If you have not read all the rules, go back and do so. I will not compensate for ignorance!

ROLES
This is a semi-open setup. Roles and their abilities will be disclosed, however role counts will not. Roles below may or may not be a part of this setup. Likewise, Mafia numbers are disclosed, but number of Mafia roles are not. Number of Assassins is not disclosed to anyone except the Assassins.
TOWN-ALIGNED ROLES
TOWNIE: You are a normal townie. Your goal is to survive and help town discover and kill the mafia and Assassins. You have a single vote by day, and the power of hiding in your closet and wetting yourself at night.
MEDIC: You never really finished med school, but you do have a defibrillator and a first-aid kit! You may choose to visit one person every night. If you visit them and they are hit, you can use your defibrillator to revive them and your first-aid kit to patch them up. You can only block one hit, so stacked hits will still kill them. You may not protect yourself, as nobody has ever mastered the difficult art of defibrillating themselves once dead (hell, even James Bond had to get someone to do it for him).
VETERAN: You spent a lot of time on the cold, hard streets. Your street-smarts and general badass nature make it very tough to kill you, thus it takes a total of 2 hits to kill you instead of one. You will be notified when you lose your “extra life”. If you take 2 hits in one night for whatever reason, you will still be killed.
TRACKER: You spent a lot of time following fox tracks as a kid. Now, you spend a lot of time following human tracks as an adult. Creepy? Yes, but also useful given the situation. At night, you pick one person to follow. You will see if they visit anyone at night, and who they visit. You will not see their night action. If another tracker tracks you, they will see that you have visited the person you are tracking. Same deal for if a watcher is watching the person you track.
WATCHER: Your former job as a paparazzi, as well as your ever-so-slightly stalkerish obsession with Hot_Bid, means you are in the possession of a great selection of night-vision binoculars, cameras and telescopes. You may choose to visit one person every night. You will set up in a hidden location outside their house, and you will see everyone who visits their house that night. You will not see what activities everyone is up to, as you have not yet found a camera that can see through walls, but you will see everyone who visits.
DETECTIVE: You are the world's most gentlemanly burglar. You do not steal diamonds or big-screen-TVs, you steal identities. Now, you are turning this ability to hopefully root out and catch some mafia. You may visit one person per night, and go through all their personal things to see their true profession.
VIGILANTE: You've had enough of all this bullshit. You have raided the armory and stole one (1) banhammer. That was all you could carry, cause these things are freakin' heavy, man! Of course, you're keeping this secret until you use it, because the instant someone realizes you have a banhammer they'll confiscate it from you. That said, you probably have just enough time to use it on someone once. Once during the game, after night 2 (gotta lay low for a bit and let it all blow over, man!), you may choose to visit one unlucky soul and introduce him to the business end of your new banhammer. The instant you use it on this person, a TL Admin will appear, slap you, and take your banhammer away, presumably while muttering about “those damn trolls”. If the mafia or assassins choose to hit the same target as you, and they manage to kill them, they'll reach that target first (again, banhammers are heavy as shit), and you will retain the use of your banhammer. If your hit overlaps with that of another vigilante (assuming there is more than one in this game), then the vig that sent his/her hit in first will take precedence.
NOSY NEIGHBOR: You happen to be an adrenaline junkie, and a great lover of schadenfreude. Any time you hear someone dying, you have to go over and check it out! Every night, you will involuntarily visit a random person who has received a hit from some source, be it Mafia, Assassin, or Vigilante. You will watch the person die from a safe location, laugh, possibly go down and draw on their face after the killer leaves, then go home. You are really good at hiding, so you will never be caught by the killer. However, you're pretty shitty at stealthily breaking into people's houses, so any trackers or watchers will see you visit that person.
MAFIA-ALIGNED ROLES
MAFIA GOON: You hate town. Damn town, interfering with your “legitimate” business deals. Only one reasonable way for civilized gentlemen like yourselves to solve this: kill them in various creative and gruesome ways. You win when you outnumber Town+Assassin numbers put together.
MAFIA GODFATHER: The new leader of the TLHQ Mafia family. He will be elected by the mafia night 1. He may choose to appear as any role he pleases to rolechecks. He also gets a complimentary wheelchair and Vito Corleone voice. He gains 1000 KP if he manages to work the phrase “I'll make him an offer he can't refuse” into a post without town noticing. (NOTE: not actually, but I'd be damn impressed.)
MAFIA ROLEBLOCKER: Your experiments with various controlled substances have produced the hottest new drug that's about to hit the black market: tdotium. This drug is so powerful of a psychoactive, it actually causes people to believe they've been transported to a magical land called Rainbow Rumpus Partytown, where the mushrooms are made of cake and you can ride ponies all night long. You've decided to put this drug to work to help the rest of your organization gain control of TLHQ. You may visit one person per night and slip a dose of your drug into their food. They will be far too drugged-out to do anything that night, so they will not perform their normal night-action. They will be informed that they were drugged-out as shit the next morning (sadly, your drug does not impair their memory). Being drugged-out does not prevent a Veteran from being a stone-cold badass, so he still takes 2 hits to kill.
3RD-PARTY ROLES
ASSASSIN: You are part of a dangerous and secret game the Men In Red play with the rest of TLHQ to amuse themselves. You have been “volunteered” for this game, and have been given the number of other “volunteer(s)” in your district. To survive, you must avoid death, figure out who the other Assassin(s) in the game are, and kill them. You have been given the following tools: -3 tiny banhammers, specially made to break after one usage. If you kill a non-assassin, too bad, you messed up, but if you kill another Assassin, you may take one of their banhammer to replace the one you used! Once your run out of banhammers though, that's it – you can't kill any more people. You can still win the game by outlasting the other Assassin(s). -The ability to call in a favor from R1CH. Because R1CH knows everything, he's offered you a deal: Once per game, you may call him and ask him the role of one person in your district, which he will tell you. If you manage to correctly identify an Assassin, you get the ability to use this power again, but if you do not, you will lose it forever!
Each night STARTING NIGHT 2, you may choose to either do nothing, kill someone, or call in R1CH's favor. You may not call in the favor and kill someone in the same night. You win when all other Assassins have been eliminated. You return Assassin to rolechecks.
If you are the last surviving Assassin, you win the game, and are teleported away to the main TL Party tower to drink mojitos, gamble with Rekrul, and awkwardly fail at hitting on cute women. You will leave the game and win, and everyone will be in awe of your skill (maybe).
ELECTED ROLES
ELECTED ROLES: Day 1 there will be an election. Any player, regardless of role, is eligible for election. The 1st and 2nd place vote getters will get the following roles:
1st Place: MAYOR: You are the mayor of this district of TLHQ for as long as this crisis lasts. You have been elected democratically, but are you a shining paragon of the town, or secretly an evil crime lord? As mayor, you get to choose the person that will be banhammered Day 1, and all subsequent days, your vote will count as 3 votes. In addition, two random townies will be selected to be your Bodyguards. They will protect you, making you immune to night actions OF ANY KIND until after they both are dead (any actions placed on you while a Bodyguard is alive will be ignored). You are not immune to lynching.
2nd Place: PARDONER: You are the deputy mayor, but because the mayor is an asshole who hogs all the power, you don't really do much except for one thing: Once per game, you may choose to pardon a lynch target for that particular day. You may invoke the power at any time during the day cycle you choose, and no lynch will happen that day. You enjoy the same bodyguard-protection the mayor has. You are not immune to lynch, and if you are the lynch target, you may not pardon yourself.
BODYGUARD: You are one of two random townies that will be selected night 1 to become Bodyguards. As long as you are alive, neither the Mayor nor the Pardoner can be targeted by night actions of any kind. You have no special powers other than that. Both the Mayor and the Pardoner know who you are, as you are protecting them.

Is it too early to start running for mayor?

I believe doing so interferes with the atmosphere of the game and provides a level of sincerity that should not be part of the game. With this in mind, I would ask the voters not to consider running before the game begins as a perk to a player's candidacy.
