At first I thought a pure game would require more analysis but thinking about it for a while it seems that maybe the roles actually increase the skill cap be weighting choices, so that the mafia wants to snipe blues, while the town realizing the advantage of such hits will try and decipher who benefits mosts from certain hits. I think this may be seen in the hit/medic cycle. With the medic trying to read who the mafia wants to hit, the mafia trying to hit someone not protected because of this while looking for the medic. I guess that is why some of you were talking about using more skill roles (where you make choices) and less roles like a vet that are just automatic. | ||

Games where it's just strictly town vs scum require some of the same kind of skill in a game with Power Roles but instead of mixing analysis based strategy with your gut, or player interactions with information revealed from power roles and death you're stuck with pure player on player analysis. Great if you want to get good at reading people but terrible if you want to see the game as a series of connected events. The card game versions usually refer to live play and live play is vastly different from online play. I think part of the reason detectives are always included there is because it's simple to use, adds a decent strategy to the game and even new players can understand it. Explaining Watchers and Trackers to newer players online isn't easy at first, so imagine how it is live v_v. Plus Mafia is a time consuming game. It's so much easier to do medic/dt/town vs Scum setups in 30 minutes and run multiple games per session. As for the mafia wanting to snipe blues that is a good point. In fact one of the best things about having power roles is that mafia really have to weigh killing power roles against killing known or almost obvious pro-town players. This is one of the reasons why medics usually have a sticky time in protecting people once a power role gets outed. As you can see, this is also why some people fear outing Power Roles and why Scum love tricking the Town into doing it ^_^ | ||

XXII Night 1 Life Aquatic Mini Night 1 PYP 1 Shot at Night 2(Medic Prot), Dved Day 2 Bang Bang! Night 0 XXVII Survived! Team Melee Mini Mafia Night 1 PYP 2 Night 2 RAM2 Night 1 I was Mafia once and survived(Win!). Also survived in Rotk, but it doesn't really count as there was no mafia KP(leaders) So that makes me 7-1 Death/Survival rate. Five out of those Eight games I died night 1, two of the remaining three I died Night 2. Yet I keep coming back for more.... ![]() My game stats: Night 1 62.5% Night 2 25% Survival 12.5% | ||
